Description
Zoom on the Yamaha EF6300iSDE
To sum up, the Yamaha EF6300iSDE is a quiet portable inverter generator tailored for:
- RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
- Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
- Food truck owners who want to ensure that their business is fully self-contained and does not rely on potentially unreliable external power
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
- Professionals in need of safely powering high-intensity work or lighting equipment
The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.
Power & Run Time
The Yamaha EF6300iSDE's design includes a gasoline-fueled 357 cc Yamaha MZ360 OHV 4-stroke engine. With a 120/240V output, it gives a running wattage of 5,500W and also a peak wattage of 6,300W.
With a noise rating of 58 dBA (less noisy than a refrigerator), the inverter generator features a straightforward and intuitive electric starter (battery included).
This generator features Yamaha's Smart Throttle™. This load-sensing feature automatically adjusts engine speed to match its load in order to offer greater fuel efficiency and noise reduction.
Featuring a 4.5 gallons fuel tank, the EF6300iSDE can provide power for up to 13.3 hours on a full tank (with fuel consumption averaging 0.34 gallons per hour).
The EF6300iSDE generates a clean sine wave: providing <4% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), delicate electronics can be plugged in its AC outlets safely.
Outlets
The control panel is equipped with the following 4 AC outlets:
This Yamaha generator features an L5-30R receptacle, enabling an easy RV connection via an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. However, it is still not quite RV ready. Besides, equipped with a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the EF6300iSDE is engineered to be transfer switch ready, enabling simple hookup to your breaker box to provide backup power for your home during blackouts.
Portability
With its enclosed inverter generator design (L30.7 x W24.3 x H27.2 in), the Yamaha EF6300iSDE offers superior aesthetics and operates with minimized noise levels, distinguishing itself from standard, open frame generators. The design follows the contemporary trends and is perfect for recreationally generating power.
Despite its weight of 216 lbs, the generator is still considered 'portable,' meaning it is movable, although its heftiness may restrict portability in certain environments or require additional considerations for transportation and setup. Nonetheless, the limited maneuverability is compensated for by utilizing its set of 4 wheels and its double handle, which facilitates shifting once the generator is set on the ground.
Features
Featuring a digital data center on its control panel, the EF6300iSDE offers you convenient access to essential information about the lifetime run hours and power output, facilitating effective monitoring of its activity and status.
In addition to this info, light indicators on the device will notify you if its oil levels are insufficient, the generator is ready and the generator is overloaded.
Benefiting from its built-in fuel gauge, the inverter generator allows for easy and immediate gas level inspections.
As far as security is concerned, the generator comes with an automatic low oil shut-off (Oil Watch system) and an overload protection (circuit breaker), providing peace of mind during use.
Yamaha's Oil Watch warning system gives you an extra peace of mind. This feature enhances long-term durability by preventing engine damage and costly repairs. Once the oil begins to run low, the generator automatically shuts off and cannot be re-started until oil is added.
It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Regarding its accessories, besides the aforementioned features, the Yamaha EF6300iSDE's box includes the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start it right off the bat. An official storage cover is available, as a separate purchase.

The Yamaha EF6300iSDE versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Yamaha EF6300iSDE compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 5000 and 6000 W).
- With a weight of 216 lbs, the Yamaha EF6300iSDE sits in the heavier end of the spectrum among inverter generators rated from 5000 to 6000 watts. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Champion 201238, with a dry weight of only 101.4 lbs.
- At just 58 dBA rated noise level, this inverter generator is positioned as one of the quieter choices among devices delivering similar type and power. If you are concerned with noise, check out the Honda EU7000iS, which is one of the least noisy generators in its power range, with a noise rating of just 52 dBA.
- The EF6300iSDE, falls within the average autonomy range compared to inverter generators of a roughly same power, with a run time of up to 13.3 hours at a 25% load and a full tank. Concerning the run times, one of the several devices with a comparable output, offering the highest autonomy, is the DuroMax XP7000iH, which is able to run for up to 16 hours.
- Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. This inverter generator doesn't excel in fuel efficiency when compared to others of its kind: it consumes approximately 0.34 GPH at a 25% load. To prioritize fuel savings, we advise considering the DuroMax XP7000iH, which stands out for its gasoline efficiency, consuming just 0.19 gallons per hour.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 5000-6000W inverter generators, the Yamaha EF6300iSDE is on the expensive side of the price range.
While certainly not the cheapest of its kind, purchasing it would most likely also mean enjoying the reliability of a high-end product.

User Reviews
I bought two of these generators ELEVEN years ago. I only run non ethanol premium in them. This gas is replaced every June. I keep full synthetic oil in the crankcase. I will run these generators at 30% load for one hour about once every three months. I clear the carbs of fuel before storing. These generators look, start, run and perform just like new. The ONLY issue I have had is that the onboard battery will not survive the 12 volt DC parasitic drain within a month. I have to remove both batteries from these generators and keep them on a battery tender.
These two generators were a significant investment to make eleven years ago but I do not regret it to this day. Also, they are still holding at the same retail price I paid at that time.
