Zoom on the Westinghouse WGen7500DF
In a nutshell, the Westinghouse WGen7500DF is a portable generator mostly geared towards:
- Food van owners and people participating in sporting competitions, open-air performances and outdoor festivals
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
Power & Run Time
Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the Westinghouse WGen7500DF delivers 120/240V and offers power and versatility. When gasoline-powered, it benefits from a running wattage of 7500W and a peak wattage of 9500W. When propane-powered, it has 6750 rated watts and 8550 peak watts.
The generator is rated for a noise of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a vacuum cleaner). Its starting mechanisms include a simple traditional pull-start mechanism and a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included). To add further convenience, the WGen7500DF can be remotely started (key fob included).
The WGen7500DF, with a fuel capacity of 6.6 gallons, reaches a run time of up to 16 hours utilizing gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.41 GPH). Alternatively, it can reach a run time of up to 11 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.43 GPH) with propane.
As the WGen7500DF has a relatively high THD (<23%), it is not recommended to use it to power sensitive electronic devices.
The control panel features the upcoming 5 AC outlets:
Furthermore, it has 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports with which charging of electronics like mobile phones and tablets is made convenient.Because the WGen7500DF is equipped with a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: it can power your home during a power outage, as it can be easily connected to your breaker box to power your household.
The Westinghouse WGen7500DF has the following dimensions: L27.2 x W26.5 x H26 in. In combination with its conventional, open frame design, they provide support and allow the generator to be raised above ground level. The generator is designed for ideal use outdoors and in rough environments.
Since the generator weighs 194 lbs, it will be incredibly difficult to manually lift it and transport it, even though it is technically considered to 'be portable' (in the sense that it is movable). However, its challenging mobility is solved by a wheel kit (⌀10") and a folding handle, which will ease its displacement, once it is on the floor.
To help you monitor the WGen7500DF's status and activity, its control panel is equipped with a convenient meter, which displays voltage, frequency and lifetime hours.
The generator includes a built-in fuel gauge, a quick, easy and convenient method of checking the device’s gas level.
Security-wise, this product benefits from an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.
Apart from the typical documentation and a user manual, which lets you start it right away, the Westinghouse WGen7500DF also is packed along with the following accessories: propane hose, tool kit, funnel, oil, key fob and battery charger.
The Westinghouse WGen7500DF is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Thus, selling and purchasing this generator is allowed in each of the 50 states, including California.
Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, making it usable in forested areas.
The Westinghouse WGen7500DF versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse WGen7500DF compare to generators of similar power (between 7000 and 8000 W).
- Weight-wise, the Westinghouse WGen7500DF has only 194 lbs, which renders it one of the lighter generators which produce 7000 to 8000 rated watts. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Predator 8750, with a dry weight of only 183 lbs.
- This generator has a somewhat average expected noise for its power range, rated at 74 dBA. If noise emissions are important to you, one of the least noisy generators of this power range is the WEN GN9500 with only 64 dBA.
- Thanks to an impressive running time of up to 16 hours at 25% load, the WGen7500DF benefits from one of the highest run time of generators of a similar output.
- Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. At an estimated fuel consumption of 0.41 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load, this generator is a rather fuel efficient one within its wattage category.
As you can see from this dynamic chart, when compared to other 7000-8000W generators, the Westinghouse WGen7500DF is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
The bottom line
- In the expected price range
- Several accessories included
- Remote start
- Dual Fuel
- Lightweight for its kind (194 lbs)
- High run time
- Fuel efficient
- Acceptable noise (74 dBA)

The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators – which are the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, several sources report that they are in many cases manufactured in China.
The Westinghouse WGen7500DF is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.
