Description
Zoom on the Westinghouse WGen7500DF
In a nutshell, the Westinghouse WGen7500DF is a portable generator mostly geared towards:
- Food truck owners who do not wish to see their business interrupted under any circumstances
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.
Power & Run Time
The Westinghouse WGen7500DF, equipped with dual-fuel technology and delivering 120/240V, ensures both power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 7,500W and a starting wattage of 9,500W. On propane, it provides 6,750 running watts and 8,550 starting watts.
The generator, rated for a noise of 72 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a shower), provides flexibility in starting, offering both a simple traditional pull-start mechanism and a user-friendly and efficient electric starter (battery included). Moreover, to offer you even more convenience, the WGen7500DF can also be remotely started (key fob included).
Regarding its running time, the WGen7500DF, with a 6.6 gallons fuel tank, can operate for up to 16 hours with a full gasoline tank (with fuel consumption estimated at around 0.41 gallons per hour). It also offers up to 11 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.43 GPH) of operation when using propane.
Given the WGen7500DF's high Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 23%, it is advisable to avoid using it to power sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 5 AC outlets:
Moreover, it presents 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports with which charging of electronics like mobile phones and tablets is made convenient.
With its twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the WGen7500DF is configured to be transfer switch ready, allowing straightforward connection to your breaker box to supply backup power to your home during outages.
Westinghouse's ST Switch Outlet

The ST Switch outlet
The WGen7500DF is what Westinghouse calls Smart Switch Ready. This means that it features a special outlet that allows for an automatic transfer of power in case of a power outage.
To benefit from this feature, you'll need the Westinghouse ST Switch (opens in a new tab), which is not included with the generator.
Simply put, the ST Switch is a cost-effective and versatile portable automatic transfer switch, which can be installed quickly and easily, without an electrician.
Plug the ST Switch into one of your household 120V outlets, plug your appliances to the ST Switch, and connect the WGen7500DF to the ST Switch via the special outlet and a 120V cord. The generator will automatically turn on when the power goes out, and automatically turn off when the power returns.
Portability
With dimensions of L27.2 x W26.1 x H26 in, the traditional open frame design of the Westinghouse WGen7500DF ensures stability while allowing easy maintenance access to components and promoting effective air cooling. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.
Since the generator weighs 201 lbs, it could be potentially be difficult to manually lift it and transport it, even though it is technically considered to 'be portable' (in the sense that it is movable). Still, once it is on the ground, its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.
Features
The control panel of the WGen7500DF is equipped with a convenient meter, showing voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours metrics, aiding in monitoring its status and activity.
Featuring a built-in fuel gauge, the generator offers quick, convenient, and easy gas level checks at a glance.
Regarding security, the generator comes with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), providing peace of mind during operation.
Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the Westinghouse WGen7500DF also is packed along with the following accessories: oil, battery charger, propane hose, funnel, key fob and tool kit. The official storage cover and running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Westinghouse WGen7500DF versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse WGen7500DF compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 7000 and 8000 W).
- Having a dry weight of 201 lbs, the Westinghouse WGen7500DF belongs in the expected weight range for dual fuel generators which produce 7000 to 8000 rated watts. If weight is an important consideration for you, the Sportsman GEN85KIDF stands out as one of the top contenders in this power category, with a dry weight of 133 pounds.
- The generator's noise output, rated at 72 dBA, falls within the average range expected for devices in its type and power range. If you value reduced noise levels, the DuroMax XP9500iH could be worth considering. It's one of the quietest generators in its power range, rated at 61 dBA.
- Concerning its runtime, the WGen7500DF provides up to 16 hours at a 25% load, indicating that it falls on the lower side compared to other generators of its type and power range. If autonomy is your priority, one of the devices of a similar power output with the highest run time is the DuroMax XP10000EH, reaching up to 22 hours.
- Run time is crucial, but it heavily relies on the fuel tank's capacity. Thus, considering fuel efficiency alongside is essential. This generator has an average fuel consumption among comparably powerful devices, as it reaches 0.41 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 25% load. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.34 GPH, the DuroMax XP9500iH is a device you could look out for.
The bottom line
- Dual fuel
- Several accessories included
- GFCI Outlets
- Remote start
- Smart Switch Ready
- Decent weight (201 lbs)
- Acceptable noise (72 dBA)
- Decent fuel efficiency
- No 50-amp output

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China and Vietnam.
Warranty Information
The Westinghouse WGen7500DF is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.

User Reviews
I purchased this generator about 9 weeks ago. It runs great, easy to start and easy to move. It runs smooth with gas or propane. I have had three other generators of other brands. I give a 5 star across the board. I really like it and trust it will handle the load when needed. I tested it out several times with a load and runs perfect. You cant go wrong with this generator. This unit is not heavy, it is normal weight for a strong powered generator and moves easy.
Other than the noise it is a good product and reliable. I will say that it quite heavy so caution is needed when moving it over any rough surface.
