Description
Zoom on the Westinghouse WGen7500DF
In short, the Westinghouse WGen7500DF is a portable generator adequately designed for:
- Food truck owners who do not wish to see their business interrupted under any circumstances
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.
Power & Run Time
Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the Westinghouse WGen7500DF delivers 120/240V and offers power and versatility. When gasoline-powered, it benefits from a running wattage of 7,500W and a peak wattage of 9,500W. When propane-powered, it has 6,750 rated watts and 8,550 peak watts.
Operating with a noise rating of 72 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a vacuum cleaner), this generator offers two starting options: a classic hand-operated recoil starting mechanism and a practical and straightforward electric starter (battery included). To increase convenience, the WGen7500DF offers remote starting functionality, allowing for easy operation from a distance (key fob included).
With a fuel capacity of 6.6 gallons, the WGen7500DF can operate for up to 16 hours using gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.41 GPH), or for up to 11 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.43 GPH) using propane.
The powering of sensitive electronic devices with the WGen7500DF is not recommended due to its high THD (<23%).
Outlets
The control panel features 5 AC outlets as follows:
In addition, it provides 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports allowing you to conveniently charge electronics such as mobile phones and tablets.
With its twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the WGen7500DF is designed to be transfer switch ready, allowing easy connection to your breaker box for powering your home during a blackout.
Westinghouse's ST Switch Outlet

The ST Switch outlet
The WGen7500DF is what Westinghouse calls Smart Switch Ready. This means that it features a special outlet that allows for an automatic transfer of power in case of a power outage.
To benefit from this feature, you'll need the Westinghouse ST Switch (opens in a new tab), which is not included with the generator.
Simply put, the ST Switch is a cost-effective and versatile portable automatic transfer switch, which can be installed quickly and easily, without an electrician.
Plug the ST Switch into one of your household 120V outlets, plug your appliances to the ST Switch, and connect the WGen7500DF to the ST Switch via the special outlet and a 120V cord. The generator will automatically turn on when the power goes out, and automatically turn off when the power returns.
Portability
Measuring L27.2 x W26.1 x H26 in, the classic open frame build of the Westinghouse WGen7500DF delivers stability and easy maintenance access to components, facilitating air circulation. The design is ideal for rough environments and demanding outdoor use.
While the generator is considered to be technically 'portable' (in the sense that you can move it), manually lifting and transporting it may be challenging, due to its high weight of 201 lbs. Nonetheless, the limited maneuverability is compensated for by utilizing its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle, which facilitates shifting once the generator is set on the ground.
Features
To help you monitor the WGen7500DF's status and activity, its control panel is equipped with a convenient meter showing you voltage, frequency and lifetime hours.
Benefiting from its built-in fuel gauge, the generator allows for easy and immediate gas level inspections.
Considering security aspects, the generator boasts an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, offering peace of mind throughout operation.
With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the Westinghouse WGen7500DF also comes with several accessories, including: battery charger, oil, tool kit, funnel, key fob and propane hose. The official storage cover and running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Westinghouse WGen7500DF versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse WGen7500DF compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 7000 and 8000 W).
- With a dry weight of 201 lbs, the Westinghouse WGen7500DF sits comfortably within the expected weight range for dual fuel devices generating 7000 to 8000 rated watts. If weight is an important consideration for you, the Sportsman GEN85KIDF stands out as one of the top contenders in this power category, with a dry weight of 133 pounds.
- With noise emissions rated as low as 72 dBA, this generator falls within the typical noise range expected for devices of similar type and power. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may want to take a look at the DuroMax XP9500iH. It's one of the quietest options among generators of similar power, rated at 61 dBA.
- Regarding its runtime, the WGen7500DF operates for up to 16 hours at a 25% load, positioning it at the lower spectrum among comparable dual fuel products. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the DuroMax XP10000EH, boasting with up to 22 hours.
- The run time is important, but also hugely depends on the capacity of the fuel tank and doesn't mean much if we don't talk about fuel consumption as well. The generator burns fuel at a rate of around 0.41 GPH when running at a 25% load, which is consistent with the average fuel usage of models of comparable power output. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the DuroMax XP9500iH. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.34 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China and Vietnam.
Warranty Information
The Westinghouse WGen7500DF is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.

User Reviews
I purchased this generator about 9 weeks ago. It runs great, easy to start and easy to move. It runs smooth with gas or propane. I have had three other generators of other brands. I give a 5 star across the board. I really like it and trust it will handle the load when needed. I tested it out several times with a load and runs perfect. You cant go wrong with this generator. This unit is not heavy, it is normal weight for a strong powered generator and moves easy.
Other than the noise it is a good product and reliable. I will say that it quite heavy so caution is needed when moving it over any rough surface.
