Description
Zoom on the Westinghouse WGen7500DF
In short, the Westinghouse WGen7500DF is a portable generator adequately designed for:
- Food truck owners who do not wish to see their business interrupted under any circumstances
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
- Professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure
In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.
Power & Run Time
Featuring dual-fuel technology, the Westinghouse WGen7500DF provides 120/240V, and offers both power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 7,500W and a starting wattage of 9,500W. When propane-powered, it offers 6,750 running watts and 8,550 starting watts.
With a noise rating of 72 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a vacuum cleaner), the generator features a manual recoil starter system, but also a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). To add further convenience, the WGen7500DF can be remotely started (key fob included).
In terms of running time, the WGen7500DF, equipped with a 6.6 gallons fuel tank, is capable of running continuously for up to 16 hours on a full gasoline tank (with fuel consumption estimated at around 0.41 gallons per hour). When utilizing propane, it provides up to 11 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.43 GPH) of operation.
The WGen7500DF is unsuitable for the powering of sensitive electronic devices due to its high THD (<23%).
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 5 AC outlets:
Moreover, it boasts 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports ensuring convenient charging of devices like mobile phones and tablets, for connectivity on the go.
Equipped with a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the WGen7500DF is engineered to be transfer switch ready, enabling simple hookup to your breaker box to provide backup power for your home during blackouts.
Westinghouse's ST Switch Outlet
The WGen7500DF is what Westinghouse calls Smart Switch Ready. This means that it features a special outlet that allows for an automatic transfer of power in case of a power outage.
To benefit from this feature, you'll need the Westinghouse ST Switch (opens in a new tab), which is not included with the generator.
Simply put, the ST Switch is a cost-effective and versatile portable automatic transfer switch, which can be installed quickly and easily, without an electrician.
Plug the ST Switch into one of your household 120V outlets, plug your appliances to the ST Switch, and connect the WGen7500DF to the ST Switch via the special outlet and a 120V cord. The generator will automatically turn on when the power goes out, and automatically turn off when the power returns.
Portability
Measuring L27.2 x W26.1 x H26 in, the classic open frame build of the Westinghouse WGen7500DF delivers stability and easy maintenance access to components, facilitating air circulation. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.
As the generator's weight is 201 pounds, manually moving it or transporting it may be challenging, despite the fact that it is technically considered 'portable' (movable). Still, once it is on the ground, its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.
Features
The WGen7500DF and its control panel include a convenient meter, which displays voltage, frequency and lifetime hours. This feature comes handy when monitoring its status and activity.
The generator allows for a quick, easy and convenient assessment of its gas level, as it is equipped with a built-in fuel gauge.
As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker).
While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the Westinghouse WGen7500DF, the following accessories are also included: tool kit, funnel, propane hose, battery charger, key fob and oil. The official storage cover and running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Westinghouse WGen7500DF versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse WGen7500DF compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 7000 and 8000 W).
- At a weight of 201 pounds, the Westinghouse WGen7500DF places in the expected weight range of the dual fuel generators in the 7000-8000 rated wattage range. If you are mindful of weight, the Sportsman GEN85KIDF is among the top contenders in this power range, with a dry weight of 133 pounds.
- This generator has a somewhat average expected noise for its type and power range, rated at 72 dBA. If noise is a concern for you, you could consider the Champion 201175, which is one of the least noisy generators in its power range, rated at 61 dBA.
- As far as autonomy is concerned, providing up to 16 hours of runtime with a full tank at a 25% load, the WGen7500DF falls into the low end in comparison with other dual fuel devices of a comparable power output. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the DuroMax XP8500EH, boasting with up to 25 hours.
- Autonomy holds its importance, however, it is largely dependent on the generator’s fuel capacity and so, it is nonsensible to discuss it without mentioning fuel efficiency as well. Compared to similar devices, this generator is less fuel-efficient than most: it burns around 0.41 gallons of gasoline per hour at a 25% load. If you wish to acquire one of the most gasoline efficient products of this power range, the DuroMax XP8500EH, with a fuel consumption of 0.32 GPH could be in your good books.
Here's a list of the most popular specific comparisons:

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China.
Warranty Information
The Westinghouse WGen7500DF is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.

User Reviews
I purchased this generator about 9 weeks ago. It runs great, easy to start and easy to move. It runs smooth with gas or propane. I have had three other generators of other brands. I give a 5 star across the board. I really like it and trust it will handle the load when needed. I tested it out several times with a load and runs perfect. You cant go wrong with this generator. This unit is not heavy, it is normal weight for a strong powered generator and moves easy.
Other than the noise it is a good product and reliable. I will say that it quite heavy so caution is needed when moving it over any rough surface.
