Description
Zoom on the Westinghouse WGen7500c
The Westinghouse WGen7500c is the newer version of the reliable WGen7500. It's a portable generator mostly geared towards:
- Food truck owners who do not wish to see their business interrupted under any circumstances
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
In the forthcoming sections, you'll delve into its power characteristics, the various outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the additional features it boasts.
Power & Run Time
Running on gasoline, the Westinghouse WGen7500c utilizes a 420 cc Westinghouse OHV 4-stroke engine with cast iron sleeve to deliver 120/240V, offering a running wattage of 7,500W and a starting wattage of 9,500W.
The generator features a manual recoil starter system and also a practical and straightforward electric starter (battery included). It is rated for a noise of 72 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a shower). Additionally, the WGen7500c features remote starting, offering users increased convenience (key fob included).
Featuring a 6.6 gallons fuel tank, the WGen7500c can provide power for up to 16 hours on a full tank (with fuel consumption averaging 0.41 gallons per hour).
Since the WGen7500c has a high THD (<23%), it is advisable to not use it for the powering of sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel features the upcoming 5 AC outlets:
Since it features a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the WGen7500c is tailored to be transfer switch ready, making it easy to connect it to your breaker box for home power support during outages.
Westinghouse's ST Switch Outlet

The ST Switch outlet
The WGen7500c is what Westinghouse calls Smart Switch Ready. This means that it features a special outlet that allows for an automatic transfer of power in case of a power outage.
To benefit from this feature, you'll need the Westinghouse ST Switch (opens in a new tab), which is not included with the generator.
Simply put, the ST Switch is a cost-effective and versatile portable automatic transfer switch, which can be installed quickly and easily, without an electrician.
Plug the ST Switch into one of your household 120V outlets, plug your appliances to the ST Switch, and connect the WGen7500c to the ST Switch via the special outlet and a 120V cord. The generator will automatically turn on when the power goes out, and automatically turn off when the power returns.
Portability
With dimensions of L27.2 x W26.1 x H26 in, the standard open frame design of the Westinghouse WGen7500c provides stability and easy maintenance access to components, as well as good air circulation. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.
Although this generator is technically considered 'portable' (in the sense that it can be moved), its 197.1 lbs make it incredibly difficult to manually lift and transport. However, the limited maneuverability is remedied with its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle, facilitating convenient shifting once the generator is positioned on the ground.
Features
The control panel of the WGen7500c includes a convenient meter, offering voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours readings, helpful for the monitoring of its status and activity.
The generator includes a built-in fuel gauge, a quick, easy and convenient method of checking the device’s gas level.
As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off.
It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the Westinghouse WGen7500c is bundled with additional accessories: funnel, tool kit, battery charger, key fob and oil. The official storage cover and running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Westinghouse WGen7500c versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse WGen7500c compare to generators of similar power (between 7000 and 8000 W).
- As its weight is 197.1 pounds, the Westinghouse WGen7500c falls in the expected weight range of the devices in the 7000-8000 rated wattage category. In terms of weight, one of the champions in their power range is the Genmax GM10500XiT, standing at just 123.5 lbs.
- Because this generator emits noise as low as 72 dBA, it can be considered to have a pretty average expected noise rating for a device of its power. If you'd like a less noisy alternative, the DuroMax XP9500iH is a strong contender. It boasts a noise rating of 61 dBA, placing it among the quietest generators in its power category.
- At a 25% load, the WGen7500c's up to 16 hours of runtime on a full tank fall within the average autonomy range for similarly powerful generators. If autonomy is your priority, one of the devices of a similar power output with the highest run time is the DuroMax XP10000EH, reaching up to 22 hours.
- Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. The generator utilizes approximately 0.41 GPH of gasoline at a 25% load, placing it within the typical range of fuel consumption seen in products of comparable wattage. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the Champion 201176. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.31 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 7000-8000W generators, the Westinghouse WGen7500c is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China and Vietnam.
Warranty Information
The Westinghouse WGen7500c is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.
