Description
Zoom on the Westinghouse WGen5300sc
The Westinghouse WGen5300sc replaced the WGen5300s. It's a compact portable generator especially useful for:
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
- People occasionally participating in outdoor fairs, festivals or events
- Food truck owners who want to ensure that their business is fully self-contained and does not rely on potentially unreliable external power
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.
Power & Run Time
Running on gasoline, the Westinghouse WGen5300sc utilizes a 274 cc OHV 4-stroke engine to deliver 120/240V, offering a running wattage of 5,300W and a starting wattage of 6,600W.
The generator features a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism and also a no-fuss and convenient electric starter (battery included). It is rated for a noise of 68 dBA (less noisy than background music).
Thanks to a fuel capacity of 4.7 gallons, the WGen5300sc can operate for up to 14.5 hours with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.32 GPH).
As the WGen5300sc has a high THD (<23%), it is not recommended to use it to power sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel features the upcoming 4 AC outlets:
Thanks to its TT-30R receptacle (TT stands for 'Travel Trailer'), this Westinghouse generator is RV Ready, making it ideal for powering recreational vehicles. In addition, equipped with a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the WGen5300sc is engineered to be transfer switch ready, enabling simple hookup to your breaker box to provide backup power for your home during blackouts.
Portability
With dimensions of L23.2 x W20.1 x H19.1 in, the traditional open frame design of the Westinghouse WGen5300sc ensures stability while allowing easy maintenance access to components and promoting effective air cooling. The generator is designed for ideal use outdoors and in rough environments.
Despite its weight of 133.8 lbs, the generator is still considered 'portable,' meaning it is movable, although its heftiness may restrict portability in certain environments or require additional considerations for transportation and setup. However, the limited maneuverability is remedied with its wheel kit and its folding handle, facilitating convenient shifting once the generator is positioned on the ground.
Features
The control panel of the WGen5300sc is equipped with a convenient meter, offering voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours readings, aiding in monitoring its status and activity.
Benefiting from its built-in fuel gauge, the generator allows for easy and immediate gas level inspections.
From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, giving you a peace of mind during use.
It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the Westinghouse WGen5300sc is bundled with additional accessories: funnel, tool kit and oil. The official storage cover and running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Westinghouse WGen5300sc versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse WGen5300sc compare to generators of similar power (between 4500 and 5500 W).
- When it comes to weight, the Westinghouse WGen5300sc tips the scales at just 133.8 pounds, making it one of the lighter generators in the 4500 to 5500 rated wattage range. In terms of weight, one of the champions in their power range is the WEN DF680iX, standing at just 94.8 lbs.
- Because this generator emits noise as low as 68 dBA, it can be considered to have a pretty average expected noise rating for a device of its power. If noise level is one your key decisive factors, you may find the Honda EU7000iS appealing. It's rated at 52 dBA, making it one of the quietest generators in its power range.
- Autonomy-wise, with up to 14.5 hours on a full tank at a 25% load, the WGen5300sc is on the low end when compared to other generators of a similar power output. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the DuroMax XP5500HX, boasting with up to 19 hours.
- The run time is important, but also hugely depends on the capacity of the fuel tank and doesn't mean much if we don't talk about fuel consumption as well. In fact, this generator is not one of the most fuel-efficient options in the aforementioned wattage range: its estimated gasoline consumption at 25% load is around 0.32 GPH. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.19 GPH, the DuroMax XP7000iH is a device you could look out for.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 4500-5500W generators, the Westinghouse WGen5300sc is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China.
Warranty Information
The Westinghouse WGen5300sc is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.
