Description
Zoom on the Westinghouse WGen5300DFcv
The Westinghouse WGen5300DFcv replaced the WGen5300DFv. It's a compact portable generator especially useful for:
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
- Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
- Food truck owners who want to ensure that their business is fully self-contained and does not rely on potentially unreliable external power
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
Over the following sections, you'll uncover its power characteristics, the selection of outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it includes.
Power & Run Time
Delivering 120/240V, the Westinghouse WGen5300DFcv is enhanced by dual-fuel technology, providing power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it boasts a running wattage of 5,300W and a starting wattage of 6,500W. Alternatively, when propane-powered, it delivers 4,800 running watts and 5,800 starting watts.
Operating with a noise level of 68 dBA (less noisy than a normal conversation), the generator starts up via a standard recoil pull-rope starting mechanism.
In terms of run time, the WGen5300DFcv, boasting a 4.7 gallons fuel tank, can run for around 11 hours at 50% load on a full tank of gasoline (with fuel consumption averaging 0.43 gallons per hour). Additionally, it provides around 9 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.52 GPH) of operation with propane.
The WGen5300DFcv is unsuitable for the powering of sensitive electronic devices due to its high THD (<23%).
Outlets
The control panel is equipped with the following 4 AC outlets:
Thanks to its TT-30R receptacle (TT stands for 'Travel Trailer'), this Westinghouse generator is RV Ready, making it ideal for powering recreational vehicles. In addition, as the WGen5300DFcv holds a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: you'll easily be able to connect it to your breaker box to power your home during a power outage.
Portability
With dimensions of L23.1 x W20.1 x H19.1 in, the standard open frame design of the Westinghouse WGen5300DFcv provides stability and easy maintenance access to components, as well as good air circulation. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.
Despite its 135.6 lbs, the generator falls under the category of 'portable,' signifying its movability, although its weight may hinder easy portability. However, its challenging mobility is solved by its wheel kit and its folding handle, which will ease its displacement, once it is on the floor.
Features
Equipped with a built-in fuel gauge, the generator facilitates swift gas level checks.
As far as security is concerned, the generator comes with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, providing peace of mind during use.
It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Along the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), useful for starting the generator right away, the Westinghouse WGen5300DFcv's package also includes these accessories: funnel, oil, propane hose and tool kit. The official storage cover and running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Westinghouse WGen5300DFcv versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse WGen5300DFcv compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 4500 and 5500 W).
- With a dry weight of 135.6 pounds, the Westinghouse WGen5300DFcv finds itself in the expected weight range for dual fuel generators able to produce between 4500 and 5500 rated watts. if you wish to prioritize weight, the Pulsar PGX60BiSRCO is one of the top contenders in its power category, weighing only 93.5 pounds.
- As its lowest possible noise is rated at 68 dBA, this generator qualifies as one of the more quiet of the products of similar type and power. If you'd like a less noisy alternative, the DuroMax XP7000iH is a strong contender. It boasts a noise rating of 62 dBA, placing it among the quietest generators in its power category.
- The WGen5300DFcv provides a higher run time than similarly powerful dual fuel devices, reaching around 11 hours at 50% load. If runtime is a priority for you, the WEN DF5600X stands out as one of the generators with the longest run time in its power range, providing around 12.5 hours of continuous use.
- While run time matters, it's heavily influenced by the fuel tank's capacity. Hence, it's important to consider fuel efficiency alongside. With an estimated gasoline consumption of 0.43 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load, this generator is among the more fuel-efficient of the products in the above-mentioned wattage range. If minimizing fuel usage is one of your key priorities, the WEN DF5600X is one of the most efficient devices with similar power output, with a gasoline consumption of only 0.35 gallons per hour.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 4500-5500W dual fuel generators, the Westinghouse WGen5300DFcv is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China and Vietnam.
Warranty Information
The Westinghouse WGen5300DFcv is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.

User Reviews
Bought this for our Adventures with our little 20′ R-Pod Camper trailer, 3 trips with it so far, relaxing on property we have off the Grid, Great not getting bothered with stupid Cell calls. We can peacefully plan and work on building the cabin now, away from all the Bullshit, Just the wife and I. No Issues at all, Have ran it on both Gas and Propane.
Im getting kickback when I haven’t had the generator more than 4 months.
There would be no cons except it runs rough on gas unless you cut back on the choke. Propane running has no problem. If I can find a carb adjustment this work out great.
