Description
Zoom on the Westinghouse WGen3600DFcv
The Westinghouse WGen3600DFcv is the newer version of the WGen3600DFv. It's a compact portable generator mostly geared towards:
- RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
- People occasionally participating in sporting competitions, open-air performances and outdoor festivals
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
In the sections ahead, the power characteristics, availability of various outlets, the portability, and any additional features of the device shall be discussed, including its emission compliance information.
Power & Run Time
The dual-fuel technology of the Westinghouse WGen3600DFcv allows for an output of 120V and provides superb power and versatility. If gasoline-powered, the device provides a running wattage of 3,600W and a starting wattage of 4,650W. If propane-powered, it gives 3,240 rated watts and 4,180 starting watts.
The generator features a conventional pull-start mechanism. It is rated for a noise of 68 dBA (less noisy than an office).
The WGen3600DFcv, with a fuel capacity of 4 gallons, reaches a run time of up to 14 hours utilizing gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.29 GPH). Alternatively, it can reach a run time of up to 16.5 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.28 GPH) with propane.
Since the WGen3600DFcv has a somewhat high THD (<23%), it is advisable to not use it for the powering of sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel features the following 4 AC outlets:
With its TT-30R receptacle (TT as in 'Travel Trailer'), this Westinghouse generator is RV Ready.
Portability
The Westinghouse WGen3600DFcv has a conventional, open frame design, of the following dimensions: L23.5 x W18.5 x H18.9 in, which offers support and allows it to be raised above ground level. The featured design is ideal for the outdoors and all tough environments.
As the generator's weight is 104.7 pounds, manually moving it or transporting it may be challenging, despite the fact that it is technically considered 'portable' (movable). The additional purchase of an official wheel kit (opens in a new tab) can therefore be a good idea, if you wish to improve the generator's mobility.
Features
The WGen3600DFcv and its control panel include a convenient meter showing you voltage, frequency and lifetime hours. This feature comes handy when monitoring its status and activity.
Thanks to a built-in fuel gauge, the generator allows you to quickly, conveniently and easily check the gas level at a glance.
As for its security measures, the device features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), letting you use it with a peace of mind.
It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down. It’s a welcomed additional security feature, but don’t forget to always take your generator outside (opens in a new tab).
Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the Westinghouse WGen3600DFcv also is packed along with the following accessories: tool kit, funnel, propane hose and oil. An official storage cover is also available, as a separate purchase.
Emissions
The Westinghouse WGen3600DFcv is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. It can therefore be sold and purchased in all 50 states, including California.
Moreover, it features a spark arrestor and therefore, can be used in forested areas.

The Westinghouse WGen3600DFcv versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse WGen3600DFcv compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- At a weight of 104.7 pounds, the Westinghouse WGen3600DFcv places in the expected weight range of the dual fuel generators in the 3500-4500 rated wattage range. In terms of weight, one of the champions in their power range is the WEN DF402iX, standing at just 66.1 lbs.
- As this generator can emit noise as low as 68 dBA, it finds itself in the average expected noise for this kind of power. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may be interested in the Westinghouse iGen4500DF, one of the least noisy generators similarly powerful as this one, rated for 52 dBA.
- As far as autonomy is concerned, providing up to 14 hours of runtime with a full tank at a 25% load, the WGen3600DFcv falls into the low end in comparison with other dual fuel devices of a comparable power output. Furthermore, considering the run times, one of the generators which have a roughly same power output, with the highest autonomy, is the Firman WH03662OF, as it provides up to 25 hours.
- The run time is important, but also hugely depends on the capacity of the fuel tank and doesn't mean much if we don't talk about fuel consumption as well. This generator is rather wasteful, compared to other devices within the aforementioned output range, when it comes to gasoline consumption, as it reaches roughly 0.29 GPH at a 25% load. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.16 GPH, the Champion 200988 is a device you could look out for.
Price comparison
As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 3500-4500W dual fuel generators, the Westinghouse WGen3600DFcv is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, several sources report that they are in many cases manufactured in China.
Warranty Information
The Westinghouse WGen3600DFcv is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.
