Description
Zoom on the Westinghouse WGen3600DF
To sum up, the Westinghouse WGen3600DF is a portable generator tailored for:
- RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
- People occasionally participating in sporting competitions, open-air performances and outdoor festivals
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
In the sections ahead, the power characteristics, availability of various outlets, the portability, and any additional features of the device shall be discussed.
Power & Run Time
The dual-fuel technology of the Westinghouse WGen3600DF allows for an output of 120V and provides superb power and versatility. If gasoline-powered, the device provides a running wattage of 3,600W and a starting wattage of 4,650W. If propane-powered, it gives 3,240 rated watts and 4,180 starting watts.
The generator features a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism and also a no-fuss and convenient electric starter (battery included). It is rated for a noise of 68 dBA (less noisy than an office). The WGen3600DF can also be remotely started, offering further convenience (key fob included).
In terms of run time, the WGen3600DF, boasting a 4 gallons fuel tank, can run for up to 14 hours on a full tank of gasoline (with fuel consumption averaging 0.29 gallons per hour). Additionally, it provides up to 16.5 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.28 GPH) of operation with propane.
The quite high THD (<23%) of the WGen3600DF makes it unsuitable for powering sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel features the following 4 AC outlets:
With its TT-30R receptacle (TT as in 'Travel Trailer'), this Westinghouse generator is RV Ready.
Portability
At L23.3 x W22.8 x H21.3 in, the traditional open frame structure of the Westinghouse WGen3600DF ensures stability while facilitating convenient maintenance access to components and promoting air cooling. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.
Despite its weight of 120 lbs, the generator is considered 'portable,' signifying its capability to be moved, albeit its heaviness may hinder easy transport. Nevertheless, it can still be moved quite conveniently with the help of its wheel kit (⌀8") and its folding handle, once it is placed on the ground.
Features
The fuel level of the generator can be determined quickly, easily, and conveniently with the help of its built-in fuel gauge.
From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), giving you a peace of mind during use.
Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the Westinghouse WGen3600DF also comes with some accessories: tool kit, key fob, propane hose, battery charger, funnel and oil are included. The official storage cover and running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Westinghouse WGen3600DF versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse WGen3600DF compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- With its weight of 120 lbs, the Westinghouse WGen3600DF is one of the heavier dual fuel generators in the 3500-4500 rated wattage category. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the Pulsar PGX5250BiXCO with only 64 pounds.
- Since the generator's noise is rated at 68 dBA, it has the roughly average expected noise for a device of similar type and power. If you are concerned with noise, check out the Westinghouse iGen5000DF, which is one of the least noisy generators in its power range, with a noise rating of just 52 dBA.
- In terms of its autonomy, the WGen3600DF can operate for up to 14 hours at a 25% load, placing it within the lower bracket among generators of similar type and power range. If you wish to prioritize autonomy, the DuroMax XP4850HX shines as one of the top contenders, offering one of the highest run times among generators with similar power output, totaling up to 23 hours.
- Autonomy holds its importance, however, it is largely dependent on the generator’s fuel capacity and so, it is nonsensible to discuss it without mentioning fuel efficiency as well. Among generators of similar output, this generator ranks somewhat poorly in fuel efficiency, with an estimated consumption of 0.29 GPH at a 25% load. If you wish to get a unit of similar power, but with one of the best fuel efficiency, you could consider the Champion 201319, which has an impressively low fuel consumption of 0.16 GPH.
The bottom line
- Dual fuel
- Several accessories included
- RV Ready
- Remote start
- Acceptable noise (68 dBA)
- No data center
- On the heavy side (120 lbs)
- Relatively low run time
- Low fuel efficiency

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China and Vietnam.
Warranty Information
The Westinghouse WGen3600DF is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.

User Reviews
I use 20 lb propane tanks and get 16 hours per tank when I’m using it to run my entire cabin (including inverter style window AC unit, but not the hot water heater). When I’m using it as a backup generator to run my cabin I’m running TWO inverter style (midea U shaped) window AC units, one full size refrigerator, one medium size chest freezer, lights, 2 ceiling fans, 800 watt microwave, stove vent and electronics. If I want it to run my 120 volt water heater for a shower and/or washing machine (which I run on cold water) then I turn off my AC’s. *** NOTE for electronics below.
*** electronics *** I bought an “Line conditioning” battery backup to run my electronics like router and television, because the power of of this inverter is dirty and for my installation there are sometimes surges when a big appliance comes on where the lights dim for a second.
I have it installed outside in an enclosure I built and wired into my breaker box (it runs half because it’s 120 volt). I control what it runs by turning breakers on or off. I bought mine for $449 with the wheel kit (dual fuel) when it was on a discount on Amazon in May of 2023.
I have done a full test that lasted 26 hours of continuous running and I have used it for some odd jobs, but I don’t use it every day like a construction contractor might.
