Description
Zoom on the Westinghouse WGen3600DF
In a few words, the Westinghouse WGen3600DF is a portable generator perfectly suited for:
- RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
- Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
In the forthcoming sections, you'll delve into its power characteristics, the various outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the additional features it boasts.
Power & Run Time
Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the Westinghouse WGen3600DF provides a 120V output and offers both versatility and power. When utilizing gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 3,600W and a starting wattage of 4,650W. Alternatively, when operating on propane, it provides 3,240 running watts and 4,180 starting watts.
With a noise rating of 68 dBA (less noisy than a normal conversation), the generator features a standard recoil pull-rope starting mechanism, but also a no-fuss and convenient electric starter (battery included). Furthermore, the WGen3600DF can be remotely started, providing users with added ease of use (key fob included).
With a fuel capacity of 4 gallons, the WGen3600DF can operate for up to 14 hours using gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.29 GPH), or for up to 16.5 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.28 GPH) using propane.
Considering its high Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 23%, it is not recommended to rely on the WGen3600DF for powering sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel features the following 4 AC outlets:
With its TT-30R receptacle (TT standing for 'Travel Trailer'), this Westinghouse generator is RV Ready, perfectly suited for powering recreational vehicles.
Portability
Measuring L23.3 x W22.8 x H21.3 in, the classic open frame build of the Westinghouse WGen3600DF delivers stability and easy maintenance access to components, facilitating air circulation. The featured design is ideal for the outdoors and all tough environments.
With a weight of 120 lbs, the generator is still labeled as 'portable,' denoting its ability to be moved, although its heaviness might restrict easy portability. However, the limited maneuverability is remedied with its wheel kit (⌀8") and its folding handle, facilitating convenient shifting once the generator is positioned on the ground.
Features
The generator includes a built-in fuel gauge, a quick, easy and convenient method of checking the device’s gas level.
Regarding security, the generator comes with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, providing peace of mind during operation.
Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the Westinghouse WGen3600DF is bundled with additional accessories: battery charger, propane hose, tool kit, funnel, oil and key fob. The official storage cover and running cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Westinghouse WGen3600DF versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse WGen3600DF compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- Weighing 120 lbs, the Westinghouse WGen3600DF is one of the heavier dual fuel generators within the 3500-4500 rated wattage bracket. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the WEN DF402iX, with a dry weight of just 66.1 pounds.
- In comparison to generators with a similar running wattage, this generator's lowest emitted noise of 68 dBA can be considered noisy. If noise emissions are important to you, one of the least noisy generators of this power range is the Westinghouse iGen5000DF with only 52 dBA.
- The WGen3600DF's autonomy is somewhat low end compared to devices of its type and power range, as it reaches only up to 14 hours at 25% load on a full tank. If prolonged run time is essential to your needs, you could consider the Firman WH03662OF, which offers one of the highest autonomy among devices with similar power output, lasting up to 25 hours.
- While the run time is an important parameter, it is dependent on the fuel tank's capacity and thus, doesn't say much on its own unless we consider fuel consumption as well. When it comes to fuel efficiency among generators with similar wattage, this generator lags behind, with a consumption rate of 0.29 GPH at a 25% load. If gasoline efficiency is at the top of your list, you may want to have a look at the Champion 201319, which has great fuel efficiency, with a gas consumption of only 0.16 gallons per hour.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3500-4500W dual fuel generators, the Westinghouse WGen3600DF is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China.
Warranty Information
The Westinghouse WGen3600DF is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.

User Reviews
I use 20 lb propane tanks and get 16 hours per tank when I’m using it to run my entire cabin (including inverter style window AC unit, but not the hot water heater). When I’m using it as a backup generator to run my cabin I’m running TWO inverter style (midea U shaped) window AC units, one full size refrigerator, one medium size chest freezer, lights, 2 ceiling fans, 800 watt microwave, stove vent and electronics. If I want it to run my 120 volt water heater for a shower and/or washing machine (which I run on cold water) then I turn off my AC’s. *** NOTE for electronics below.
*** electronics *** I bought an “Line conditioning” battery backup to run my electronics like router and television, because the power of of this inverter is dirty and for my installation there are sometimes surges when a big appliance comes on where the lights dim for a second.
I have it installed outside in an enclosure I built and wired into my breaker box (it runs half because it’s 120 volt). I control what it runs by turning breakers on or off. I bought mine for $449 with the wheel kit (dual fuel) when it was on a discount on Amazon in May of 2023.
I have done a full test that lasted 26 hours of continuous running and I have used it for some odd jobs, but I don’t use it every day like a construction contractor might.
