I purchased October after the last hurricane season, selling my Predator 9500 Super Quiet to buy something with a bigger capacity. We’re entering our first hurricane season with the Westinghouse WGen14500TFc. I did exhaustive research and identified this model as the most cost-effective way to get quite a bit of power for the most reasonable amount of money. Tri fuel was important to me for flexibility. My intention is to only run this on natural gas, but it is nice to have a 200lb propane tank and a few gas cans on standby just in case. I’d really prefer not to put gasoline in this thing just to avoid ethanol problems altogether, but having the option for it is great.
Have help to unbox this thing. It ships on a custom built wood pallet, that’s wrapped in a cardboard box. Getting the box off was easy, but getting the generator off the pallet about killed me. Don’t be me. Plan to have a helper.
The six hour break-in with a varying load (space header on/off) went well. The oil change after the break-in was very easy, with the included drain tube. The generator seems to be pretty well built.
The included remote-start remote needs to be paired but the instructions are easy to follow, and the remote reaches farther than I’d expected.
I plugged up to my 50A generator inlet, ran on natural gas, and powered my whole home without issue. I tried to really test the limits, and I found them. I was able to run all the appliances in my house, including the oven, but when I ran both the oven AND the microwave, that’s when the voltage output started to waver. The electric oven of course is the resource hog and isn’t something I’d use in an outage, but it was nice to find the limit of the generator. Also, this was on natural gas. It very well may have run the oven without issue on gasoline.

oven (but see above, the generator audibly struggled and voltage output started to dip. It would likely have died if I didn’t kill the oven)
Only one bit of negative feedback. This thing is loud. I weighed the pros and cons of a standby generac/kohler type system vs a portable generator like this. In the end, I chose this portable generator because it’s considerably less expensive, and I can take it with me easily if we were to move away from here. In doing this, I sacrificed the decreased volume of the standby system and the convenience of the automatic transfer switch. I think I read that a transfer switch can be used with this model, but I’ll keep it in the garage and out of the weather/sun instead, and just wheel it out as needed.
Whenever the next big power outage comes, maybe I’ll post an update. Happy with my purchase so far. Hope this helps someone
