Description
Zoom on the Westinghouse WGen14500c
In a nutshell, the Westinghouse WGen14500c is a powerful portable generator mostly geared towards:
- Professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.
Power & Run Time
The Westinghouse WGen14500c is powered by a 713 cc (22 hp) Westinghouse V-Twin engine. It delivers 120/240V, runs on gasoline and offers a running wattage of 14,500W as well as a peak wattage of 18,000W.
With a noise rating of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a shower), the generator's ignition is facilitated by an easy-to-use and reliable electric starter (battery included). To add further convenience, the WGen14500c can be remotely started (key fob included).
The WGen14500c's fuel tank, boasting 10.5 gallons, allows it to operate for around 11 hours at 50% load with a full tank (with an estimated fuel consumption of 0.95 GPH).
The WGen14500c generates a clean sine wave: providing <5% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), delicate electronics can be plugged in its AC outlets safely.
Outlets
The control panel features the upcoming 7 AC outlets:
Additionally, it features 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) perfect for conveniently charging mobile phones, tablets, and other electronic devices.
Despite not having the 'RV Ready' status, this Westinghouse generator provides the benefit of convenient RV compatibility through its L5-30R receptacle, enabling you to easily power your RV using an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, thanks to its twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the WGen14500c is transfer switch ready, facilitating easy hookup to your breaker box to provide backup power for your home during blackouts.
Westinghouse's ST Switch Outlet

The ST Switch outlet
The WGen14500c is what Westinghouse calls Smart Switch Ready. This means that it features a special outlet that allows for an automatic transfer of power in case of a power outage.
To benefit from this feature, you'll need the Westinghouse ST Switch (opens in a new tab), which is not included with the generator.
Simply put, the ST Switch is a cost-effective and versatile portable automatic transfer switch, which can be installed quickly and easily, without an electrician.
Plug the ST Switch into one of your household 120V outlets, plug your appliances to the ST Switch, and connect the WGen14500c to the ST Switch via the special outlet and a 120V cord. The generator will automatically turn on when the power goes out, and automatically turn off when the power returns.
Portability
Measuring L34 x W31 x H35 in, the Westinghouse WGen14500c showcases a classic open frame layout, guaranteeing stability and simple maintenance access to components, while facilitating air circulation. The featured design is ideal for the outdoors and all tough environments.
Although this generator is technically considered 'portable' (in the sense that it can be moved), its 352 lbs make it incredibly difficult to manually lift and transport. Still, once it is on the ground, its wheel kit and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.
A lift hook, which is on the top of the frame, serves as an extra safety feature for the transport, unloading and loading of the device.
Features
Included in the control panel of the WGen14500c are a convenient meter, offering voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours readings, essential for monitoring its status and activity.
The fuel level of the generator can be determined quickly, easily, and conveniently with the help of its built-in fuel gauge.
As far as security is concerned, the generator comes with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, providing peace of mind during use.
It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the Westinghouse WGen14500c also is packed along with the following accessories: tool kit, funnel, key fob, oil and battery charger.
The Westinghouse WGen14500c versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse WGen14500c compare to generators of similar power (between 10000 and 14500 W).
- At 352 lbs, the Westinghouse WGen14500c stands out as one of the heavier generators rated from 10000 to 14500 watts. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the DuroStar DS13000MX with only 209 pounds.
- Since the generator's noise is rated at 74 dBA, it has the roughly average expected noise for a device of similar power. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may be interested in the Genmax GM17000iE, one of the least noisy generators similarly powerful as this one, rated for 63 dBA.
- With a run time of around 11 hours at 50% load, the WGen14500c has one of the higher run times, compared to its similarly powerful peers. If autonomy is your priority, one of the devices of a similar power output with the highest run time is the Predator 13000, reaching around 12.1 hours.
- Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. At an estimated fuel consumption of 0.95 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load, this generator is a rather fuel-efficient one within its wattage category. If minimizing fuel usage is one of your key priorities, the WEN TF1450 is one of the most efficient devices with similar power output, with a gasoline consumption of only 0.68 gallons per hour.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 10000-14500W generators, the Westinghouse WGen14500c is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China.
Warranty Information
The Westinghouse WGen14500c is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.
