In a nutshell, the Westinghouse WGen11500TFc is a powerful portable generator mostly geared towards:
- Professionals in need of safely powering high-intensity work or lighting equipment
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.
Power & Run Time
The Westinghouse WGen11500TFc delivers 120/240V and is equipped with a tri-fuel technology, enabling it to operate on gasoline, propane, or natural gas. When powered by gasoline, it achieves a running wattage of 11,500W and a peak wattage of 14,500W. Switching to propane provides 10,500 rated watts and 13,500 peak watts, while natural gas operation delivers 9,500W of rated wattage and 12,000W of starting wattage.
The generator features a manual recoil starter system and also an intuitive and practical electric starter (battery included). It is rated for a noise of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a dishwasher). Furthermore, for added convenience, the WGen11500TFc offers remote starting capabilities (key fob included).
Regarding its running time, the WGen11500TFc, with a 9.5 gallons fuel tank, can operate for around 9.5 hours at 50% load with a full gasoline tank (with fuel consumption estimated at around 1 gallons per hour). It also offers around 7 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.67 GPH) of operation when using propane.
The WGen11500TFc produces a clean sine wave: thanks to a <5% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), your sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel is equipped with the following 6 AC outlets:
In addition, it provides 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) with which you may charge electronics, for example mobile phones or tablets, conveniently.
Since the WGen11500TFc bears a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: it is easily connectible to a breaker box and can power your home in case of a power outage.
Westinghouse's ST Switch Outlet
The WGen11500TFc is what Westinghouse calls Smart Switch Ready. This means that it features a special outlet that allows for an automatic transfer of power in case of a power outage.
To benefit from this feature, you'll need the Westinghouse ST Switch (opens in a new tab), which is not included with the generator.
Simply put, the ST Switch is a cost-effective and versatile portable automatic transfer switch, which can be installed quickly and easily, without an electrician.
Plug the ST Switch into one of your household 120V outlets, plug your appliances to the ST Switch, and connect the WGen11500TFc to the ST Switch via the special outlet and a 120V cord. The generator will automatically turn on when the power goes out, and automatically turn off when the power returns.
Portability
Measuring L27.2 x W26.1 x H26.5 in, the classic open frame construction of the Westinghouse WGen11500TFc provides stability while enabling convenient maintenance access to components and adequate air cooling. The generator is designed for ideal use outdoors and in rough environments.
Though weighing 230 lbs, the generator remains classified as 'portable,' indicating its capability to be moved, though its weight could pose transport challenges. However, the lack of maneuverability can be offset with its wheel kit and its folding handle, which allows for convenient shifting once the generator is placed on the ground.
Features
The WGen11500TFc's status and activity may be monitored conveniently via the control panel, as it features a convenient meter, displaying voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours information.
The inclusion of a built-in fuel gauge in the generator streamlines gas level checks for quick and convenient assessments.
As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off.
It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
In addition to the traditional documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to help you get started promptly, the Westinghouse WGen11500TFc also includes several accessories: funnel, natural gas hose with NPT adapter, tool kit, oil, propane hose, key fob and battery charger.

The Westinghouse WGen11500TFc versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse WGen11500TFc compare to multi-fuel generators of similar power (between 10000 and 14000 W).
- Regarding its weight, the Westinghouse WGen11500TFc only weighs in at 230 pounds, which means it's one of the lighter multi-fuel generators in the 10000-14000 rated wattage range. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the DuroStar DS13000MX with only 209 pounds.
- As this generator can emit noise as low as 74 dBA, it finds itself in the average expected noise for this kind of power. If you'd like a less noisy alternative, the DuroMax XP16000iHT is a strong contender. It boasts a noise rating of 67 dBA, placing it among the quietest generators in its power category.
- As far as autonomy is concerned, providing around 9.5 hours of runtime with a full tank at a 50% load, the WGen11500TFc falls into the low end in comparison with other multi-fuel devices of a comparable power output. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the Predator 13000, with around 12.1 hours.
- Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel tank capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary for a complete understanding. As this generator uses an estimated 1 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 50% load, it finds itself in the average gasoline consumption range of similar products. If minimizing fuel usage is one of your key priorities, the WEN TF1450 is one of the most efficient devices with similar power output, with a gasoline consumption of only 0.68 gallons per hour.

WGen11500TFc Generator = perfect upgrade
History: I have been using a 5500 watt generator, which has been a workable option that has seen us through power outages due to hurricanes and winter freezes in southeast Texas. It wouldn’t handle the central AC for summer, but saved us by being able to handle winter heating via the central unit, possible only because it used a gas furnace and only needed electricity for the fan.
Now in 2024, we replaced our aged AC unit with a top shelf AC/Heat Pump system. Much more efficient, but with electric heat boost behind the heat pump (no gas heat). I needed a generator that would handle a 5 ton unit, along with two refrigerators, a freezer, and basic household items. It is ok to be hot in the summer without AC, but loss of heat in winter could endanger both health and property. After significant research, I settled on the WGen11500TFc. It arrived quickly from Home Depot, in perfect condition. The manual, paperwork, included tools and accessories are first class. Directions are clear and well illustrated. So glad they didn’t decide to make the buyer go purchase propane and natural gas hoses at additional expense. This is a great decision that lets you know you have the right parts, and that you have everything you need to get started right away. The included funnel for oil is a nice touch, though it’s very slow to use due to its small capacity. I will add a flexible funnel with a bit more cup size.
After upgrading my generator input system to handle 50 amps (it was 30 amps on the smaller generator), I am running the first full-scale tests today. Several hours in, I am very impressed! I used the method outlined in the manual to add loads one at a time, largest to smallest. Much to my satisfaction, everything needed is running without issue. I’m going to do a 5 hour break in, varying loads to get it worn in correctly. With another cold arctic push coming this week with below-freezing temps, it is a huge relief to know I can now keep the heat on in bad weather. And now we can have whole-house AC in a summer power outage! I realize this is early on, but I couldn’t be more pleased with the early test results. In my experience, failures happen early… and so far it’s looking great.
I’ve noted a few sites, including this one, quoting an old spec of 25% THD, and thus unusable for electronics. The current (2025) spec is equal to or less than 5%, only a percent or two off a good inverter generator. In my tests, I ran all my electronics (TVs, computers, modem/router, etc) without issue.
