Zoom on the Westinghouse WGen10500TFc
To sum up, the Westinghouse WGen10500TFc is a powerful portable generator tailored for:
- Professionals in need of safely powering high-intensity work or lighting equipment
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
In the sections ahead, the power characteristics, availability of various outlets, the portability, and any additional features of the device shall be discussed.
Power & Run Time
The Westinghouse WGen10500TFc delivers 120/240V and features a tri-fuel technology, granting it the capability to utilize gasoline, propane, or natural gas. When utilizing gasoline, it achieves a running wattage of 10,500W and a peak wattage of 13,500W. Upon switching to propane, it benefits from 9,500 rated watts and 12,500 peak watts. Transitioning to natural gas operation provides 8,500W of rated wattage and 10,000W of starting wattage.
Enjoying a noise rating of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a vacuum cleaner), this generator can be started thanks to a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism, but also to a straightforward and intuitive electric starter (battery included). For added user convenience, the WGen10500TFc is equipped with remote starting capabilities (key fob included).
In terms of run time, the WGen10500TFc, boasting a 9.5 gallons fuel tank, can run for around 9.5 hours at 50% load on a full tank of gasoline (with fuel consumption averaging 1 gallons per hour). Additionally, it provides around 7 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.67 GPH) of operation with propane.
As the WGen10500TFc has a high THD (<23%), it is not recommended to use it to power sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 6 AC outlets:
Additionally, it features 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) designed for hassle-free charging of various electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets, ensuring uninterrupted usage.
Due to the featured twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the WGen10500TFc is transfer switch ready: you may connect it to a breaker box to power your household during a power outage.
Westinghouse's ST Switch Outlet

The ST Switch outlet
The WGen10500TFc is what Westinghouse calls Smart Switch Ready. This means that it features a special outlet that allows for an automatic transfer of power in case of a power outage.
To benefit from this feature, you'll need the Westinghouse ST Switch (opens in a new tab), which is not included with the generator.
Simply put, the ST Switch is a cost-effective and versatile portable automatic transfer switch, which can be installed quickly and easily, without an electrician.
Plug the ST Switch into one of your household 120V outlets, plug your appliances to the ST Switch, and connect the WGen10500TFc to the ST Switch via the special outlet and a 120V cord. The generator will automatically turn on when the power goes out, and automatically turn off when the power returns.
Portability
With dimensions of L28.6 x W29.3 x H26.8 in, the standard open frame design of the Westinghouse WGen10500TFc provides stability and easy maintenance access to components, as well as good air circulation. The featured design is ideal for the outdoors and all tough environments.
Despite its 230 lbs, the generator falls under the category of 'portable,' signifying its movability, although its weight may hinder easy portability. Nevertheless, it can still be moved quite conveniently with the help of its wheel kit and its folding handle, once it is placed on the ground.
Features
Included in the control panel of the WGen10500TFc are a convenient meter showing you voltage, frequency and lifetime hours, essential for monitoring its status and activity.
The inclusion of a built-in fuel gauge in the generator streamlines gas level checks for quick and convenient assessments.
In terms of security, the generator features an automatic low oil shut-off, ensuring peace of mind during its use.
It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the Westinghouse WGen10500TFc is bundled with additional accessories: key fob, funnel, battery charger, oil, propane hose, natural gas hose with NPT adapter and tool kit. An official running cover is also available, as a separate purchase.
Note
The unit was originally rated to provide 13,500 starting watts on gasoline, and 12,500 on LPG. This rating was later adjusted to respectively 13,000 and 12,000 starting watts. Some retailers may still hold units with the previous rating.

The Westinghouse WGen10500TFc versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse WGen10500TFc compare to multi-fuel generators of similar power (between 10000 and 11000 W).
- At 230 lbs dry, the Westinghouse WGen10500TFc is consistent with the standard weight profile for multi-fuel devices ranging from 10000 to 11000 rated watts. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the DuroStar DS13000MX with only 209 pounds.
- Given its rated noise level of 74 dBA, this generator aligns with the average expected noise rating for devices of similar type and power. If you'd like a less noisy alternative, the WEN TF1300iX is a strong contender. It boasts a noise rating of 64 dBA, placing it among the quietest generators in its power category.
- With around 9.5 hours of runtime at 50% load, the WGen10500TFc provides a higher run time when compared to similarly powerful multi-fuel products. If extended autonomy is what matters most to you, the Genmax GM15000ET could be an excellent choice, offering one of the longest run times among units in its power category, reaching around 11 hours.
- Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary to get the full picture. The generator burns fuel at a rate of around 1 GPH when running at a 50% load, which is consistent with the average fuel usage of models of comparable power output. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the WEN TF1300iX, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.93 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China and Vietnam.
Warranty Information
The Westinghouse WGen10500TFc is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.
