Description
Zoom on the Westinghouse WGen10500TFc
In a nutshell, the Westinghouse WGen10500TFc is a powerful portable generator mostly geared towards:
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.
Power & Run Time
The Westinghouse WGen10500TFc delivers 120/240V and boasts with a tri-fuel technology enabling it to utilize gasoline, propane, or natural gas. When powered by gasoline, it achieves a running wattage of 10,500W and a peak wattage of 13,500W. Upon using propane, it gains 9,500 rated watts and 12,500 peak watts. Its operation with natural gas provides 8,500W of rated wattage and 10,000W of starting wattage.
Operating with a noise rating of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a vacuum cleaner), this generator offers two starting options: a conventional pull-start mechanism and a user-friendly and hassle-free electric starter (battery included). For added user convenience, the WGen10500TFc is equipped with remote starting capabilities (key fob included).
Regarding its running time, the WGen10500TFc, with a 9.5 gallons fuel capacity, can operate for around 9.5 hours at 50% load with a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 1 GPH). When using propane, it can run for around 7 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.67 GPH).
Considering its high Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 23%, it is not recommended to rely on the WGen10500TFc for powering sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel features the upcoming 6 AC outlets:
Moreover, it presents 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) designed for hassle-free charging of various electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets, ensuring uninterrupted usage.
Since it features a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the WGen10500TFc is tailored to be transfer switch ready, making it easy to connect it to your breaker box for home power support during outages.
Westinghouse's ST Switch Outlet

The ST Switch outlet
The WGen10500TFc is what Westinghouse calls Smart Switch Ready. This means that it features a special outlet that allows for an automatic transfer of power in case of a power outage.
To benefit from this feature, you'll need the Westinghouse ST Switch (opens in a new tab), which is not included with the generator.
Simply put, the ST Switch is a cost-effective and versatile portable automatic transfer switch, which can be installed quickly and easily, without an electrician.
Plug the ST Switch into one of your household 120V outlets, plug your appliances to the ST Switch, and connect the WGen10500TFc to the ST Switch via the special outlet and a 120V cord. The generator will automatically turn on when the power goes out, and automatically turn off when the power returns.
Portability
With dimensions of L28.6 x W29.3 x H26.8 in, the standard open frame design of the Westinghouse WGen10500TFc provides stability and easy maintenance access to components, as well as good air circulation. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.
Although this generator is technically considered 'portable' (in the sense that it can be moved), its 230 lbs make it incredibly difficult to manually lift and transport. However, the lack of maneuverability can be offset with its wheel kit and its folding handle, which allows for convenient shifting once the generator is placed on the ground.
Features
The control panel of the WGen10500TFc includes a convenient meter, offering voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours readings, helpful for the monitoring of its status and activity.
The inclusion of a built-in fuel gauge in the generator streamlines gas level checks for quick and convenient assessments.
As for its security measures, the device features an automatic low oil shut-off, letting you use it with a peace of mind.
It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the Westinghouse WGen10500TFc also comes with several accessories, including: propane hose, oil, battery charger, key fob, funnel, tool kit and natural gas hose with NPT adapter. An official running cover is also available, as a separate purchase.
Note
The unit was originally rated to provide 13,500 starting watts on gasoline, and 12,500 on LPG. This rating was later adjusted to respectively 13,000 and 12,000 starting watts. Some retailers may still hold units with the previous rating.

The Westinghouse WGen10500TFc versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse WGen10500TFc compare to multi-fuel generators of similar power (between 10000 and 11000 W).
- With a dry weight of 230 lbs, the Westinghouse WGen10500TFc sits comfortably within the expected weight range for multi-fuel devices generating 10000 to 11000 rated watts. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the DuroStar DS13000MX, with a dry weight of only 209 lbs.
- At just 74 dBA rated noise level, this generator is positioned as one of the quietest choices among devices delivering similar type and power.
- With around 9.5 hours of runtime at a 50% load on a full tank, the WGen10500TFc is in line with the average autonomy range for multi-fuel generators of comparable power. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the Predator 13000, boasting with around 12.1 hours.
- Run time is crucial, but it heavily relies on the fuel tank's capacity. Thus, considering fuel efficiency alongside is essential. This generator is somewhat less fuel-efficient than devices of comparable output: its estimated fuel consumption reaches 1 GPH at a 50% load. If you're placing a high priority on fuel consumption, the Predator 13000, with a low fuel consumption rate of 0.88 GPH, could be an option to consider.
Here's a list of the most popular specific comparisons:

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China.
Warranty Information
The Westinghouse WGen10500TFc is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.
