Description
Zoom on the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc
In short, the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc is a quiet and compact portable inverter generator adequately designed for:
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
- People occasionally participating in sporting competitions, open-air performances and outdoor festivals
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
- Tailgating and campground aficionados with the desire of enjoying power anywhere they go
Over the following sections, you'll uncover its power characteristics, the selection of outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it includes.
Power & Run Time
Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc delivers 120V and offers power and versatility. When gasoline-powered, it benefits from a running wattage of 3,900W and a peak wattage of 5,000W. When propane-powered, it has 3,500 rated watts and 4,500 peak watts. Additionally, the parallel capability (parallel cord (opens in a new tab) not included) facilitates increasing of power output when linked to another similar or compatible unit, offering enhanced energy capacity and reliability for diverse requirements.
At a noise rating of 52 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a conversation at home), this inverter generator provides the choice between a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism or a hassle-free and practical electric starter (battery included) for starting. To add further convenience, the iGen5000DFc can be remotely started (key fob included).
With a fuel capacity of 3.4 gallons, the iGen5000DFc can operate for up to 18 hours using gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.19 GPH), or for up to 22 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.21 GPH) using propane.
The <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of the iGen5000DFc ensures a clean sine wave output, providing a secure power source for your sensitive electronics through its AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel is equipped with the following 3 AC outlets:
Additionally, it features 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) with which you may charge electronics, for example mobile phones or tablets, conveniently.
With its TT-30R receptacle (TT standing for 'Travel Trailer'), this Westinghouse generator is RV Ready, perfectly suited for powering recreational vehicles.
Portability
As an inverter generator, the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc showcases a closed design (L24.5 x W17.5 x H20 in), enhancing aesthetics and ensuring quieter operation compared to conventional, open frame models. The generator has a contemporary design, convenient for recreationally generating power.
Since the generator weighs 105.8 lbs, it will be incredibly difficult to manually lift it and transport it, even though it is technically considered to 'be portable' (in the sense that it is movable). However, the lack of maneuverability can be offset with its set of 2 wheels (⌀5.5") and its telescopic handle, which allows for convenient shifting once the generator is placed on the ground.
Features
For easy status and activity monitoring of the iGen5000DFc, its control panel integrates a digital data center, offering insights into the fuel level, lifetime run hours, remaining run time, power output and voltage.
In addition to this info, light indicators on the device will signal if the oil level is too low, the generator is overloaded and the generator is ready.
Considering security aspects, the generator boasts an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), offering peace of mind throughout operation.
It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc also comes with several accessories, including: key fob, tool kit, battery charger, funnel, propane hose and oil. An official running cover and a suitable storage cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Westinghouse iGen5000DFc versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- Weighing in at 105.8 lbs, the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc fits within the expected weight range for inverters producing 3500 to 4500 rated watts. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the WEN 56432iX, with a dry weight of only 52.9 lbs.
- This inverter generator offers a rated noise level of 52 dBA, placing it among the most quiet alternatives in its type and power category.
- Offering up to 18 hours of running time on a full tank at 25% load, the iGen5000DFc is within the average autonomy range of similarly powerful inverter generators. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the Firman WH03662OF, boasting with up to 25 hours.
- Run time is crucial, but it heavily relies on the fuel tank's capacity. Thus, considering fuel efficiency alongside is essential. This inverter generator provides better fuel efficiency than most others in its wattage range, consuming approximately 0.19 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load. To prioritize fuel savings, we advise considering the Champion 201319, which stands out for its gasoline efficiency, consuming just 0.16 gallons per hour.

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China and Vietnam.
