Description
Zoom on the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc
In short, the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc is a quiet and compact portable inverter generator adequately designed for:
- RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
- People occasionally participating in sporting competitions, open-air performances and outdoor festivals
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.
Power & Run Time
Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc provides a 120V output and offers both versatility and power. When utilizing gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 3,900W and a starting wattage of 5,000W. Alternatively, when operating on propane, it provides 3,500 running watts and 4,500 starting watts. In addition, the parallel capability (parallel cord (opens in a new tab) not included) empowers increasing of power output when linked to another similar or compatible unit, ensuring expanded energy capacity and reliability for various applications.
The inverter generator features a standard recoil pull-rope starting mechanism and also a user-friendly and hassle-free electric starter (battery included). It is rated for a noise of 52 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a quiet suburb). For added user convenience, the iGen5000DFc is equipped with remote starting capabilities (key fob included).
In terms of running time, the iGen5000DFc, equipped with a 3.4 gallons fuel tank, is capable of running continuously for up to 18 hours on a full gasoline tank (with fuel consumption estimated at around 0.19 gallons per hour). When utilizing propane, it provides up to 22 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.21 GPH) of operation.
Thanks to its low <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the iGen5000DFc produces a clean sine wave output, making it safe for your sensitive electronics when utilizing the AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 3 AC outlets:
It also sports 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) providing convenient charging capabilities for mobile phones, tablets, and other electronic devices.
Thanks to its TT-30R receptacle (TT stands for 'Travel Trailer'), this Westinghouse generator is RV Ready.
Portability
The Westinghouse iGen5000DFc is distinguished by its enclosed inverter generator design (L24.5 x W17.5 x H20 in), providing improved aesthetics and quieter performance compared to traditional, open frame units. The featured design follows the latest trends and is ideal for easy and recreational use.
While technically classified as 'portable' due to its ability to be moved, the 105.8 lbs of this generator make manual lifting and transportation incredibly difficult. Despite the restricted maneuverability, its set of 2 wheels (⌀5.5") and its telecospic handle provides a solution, allowing for convenient shifting once the generator is positioned on the ground.
Features
Designed with a digital data center, the control panel of the iGen5000DFc grants you access to crucial data on the power output, lifetime run hours, voltage, remaining run time and fuel level, ensuring practical monitoring of its status and activity.
In addition to this info, some light indicators allow you to instantly see if the oil level is too low, the generator is overloaded and the generator is ready.
As far as security is concerned, the generator comes with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, providing peace of mind during use.
It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc also is packed along with the following accessories: battery charger, oil, key fob, funnel, tool kit and propane hose. An official running cover and a suitable storage cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Westinghouse iGen5000DFc versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- At 105.8 lbs dry, the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc is consistent with the standard weight profile for inverters ranging from 3500 to 4500 rated watts. If you are mindful of weight, the Genmax GM4600iAEFIC is among the top contenders in this power range, with a dry weight of 58.4 pounds.
- As its lowest possible noise is rated at 52 dBA, this inverter generator qualifies as one of the most quiet of the products of similar type and power.
- The iGen5000DFc provides up to 18 hours of runtime at a 25% load on a full tank, placing it within the average autonomy range among similar inverter generators. If extended autonomy is what matters most to you, the Firman W03661OF could be an excellent choice, offering one of the longest run times among units in its power category, reaching up to 25 hours.
- While the run time is an important parameter, it is dependent on the fuel tank's capacity and thus, doesn't say much on its own unless we consider fuel consumption as well. This inverter generator has a better fuel efficiency than other units in the aforementioned output range, consuming approximately 0.19 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load. If you wish to further improve in the area of fuel efficiency, the Champion 201319, which boasts with a gas consumption of only 0.16 GPH, may be the right generator for you.

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China.
