Description
Zoom on the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc
To sum up, the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc is a quiet and compact portable inverter generator tailored for:
- RV travellers looking for even more independence
- People occasionally participating in outdoor fairs, festivals or events
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device.
Power & Run Time
Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc delivers 120V and offers power and versatility. When gasoline-powered, it benefits from a running wattage of 3,900W and a peak wattage of 5,000W. When propane-powered, it has 3,500 rated watts and 4,500 peak watts. Furthermore, its parallel capability (parallel cord (opens in a new tab) not included) allows power output to increase when connected to another similar or compatible unit, ensuring expanded energy capacity and reliability for various applications.
At a noise rating of 52 dBA (just slightly more noisy than rainfall), this inverter generator can be started via a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism, or a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included). Furthermore, the iGen5000DFc can be remotely started, providing users with added ease of use (key fob included).
In terms of run time, the iGen5000DFc, boasting a 3.4 gallons fuel tank, can run for up to 18 hours on a full tank of gasoline (with fuel consumption averaging 0.19 gallons per hour). Additionally, it provides up to 22 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.21 GPH) of operation with propane.
As the iGen5000DFc produces a clean sine wave, with a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), sensitive electronics may be plugged in the AC outlets safely.
Outlets
The control panel features the following 3 AC outlets:
Additionally, it features 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) ideal for charging various electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets.
Thanks to its TT-30R receptacle (TT stands for 'Travel Trailer'), this Westinghouse generator is RV Ready.
Portability
The Westinghouse iGen5000DFc's characteristic encased inverter generator design (L24.5 x W17.5 x H20 in) provides an aesthetic advantage and contributes to quieter operation compared to any ordinary, open frame product. The generator has a contemporary design, convenient for recreationally generating power.
The 105.8 lbs of the iGen5000DFc's dry weight enables you to use it anywhere you will ever need. Furthermore, with its set of 2 wheels (⌀5.5") and its telescopic handle, you can easily relocate the generator once it's set up.
Features
One of the many iGen5000DFc's features is the digital data center, included in its control panel, which conveniently provides information on the remaining run time, fuel level, voltage, lifetime run hours and power output and thus, helps you monitor its activity and status.
In addition to this info, the device’s light indicators will display if the generator is ready, the generator is overloaded and the oil level is too low.
Security-wise, this product benefits from an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.
It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Beyond the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to assist with setup, the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc ships with supplementary accessories: battery charger, funnel, oil, tool kit, propane hose and key fob. An official running cover and a suitable storage cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Westinghouse iGen5000DFc versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- With a dry weight of 105.8 lbs, the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc falls within the expected weight range for inverter generators in the 3500 to 4500 rated wattage. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the WEN 56432iX, with a dry weight of just 52.9 pounds.
- With noise levels starting from 52 dBA rating, this inverter generator stands out as one of the most quiet options among products of similar type and power.
- At a 25% load, the iGen5000DFc offers up to 18 hours of runtime on a full tank, placing it within the average autonomy range among inverter generators of similar power level. Concerning the run times, one of the several devices with a comparable output, offering the highest autonomy, is the Champion 200977, which is able to run for up to 22 hours.
- Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary to get the full picture. Among devices of similar power, this inverter generator has one of the better fuel efficiency, with consumption rates of around 0.19 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Champion 201319, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.16 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China and Vietnam.
