In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.

Power & Run Time

The Westinghouse iGen5000DFc in use

The Westinghouse iGen5000DFc

Featuring dual-fuel technology, the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc provides 120V, and offers both power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 3,900W and a starting wattage of 5,000W. When propane-powered, it offers 3,500 running watts and 4,500 starting watts. Additionally, as the generator is parallel capable (parallel cord (opens in a new tab) not included), it can be linked to a second unit for more power.

Featuring a noise rating of 52 dBA (just slightly more noisy than rainfall), the inverter generator is equipped with both a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism and a convenient and efficient electric starter (battery included) for starting. Furthermore, the iGen5000DFc can be remotely started, providing users with added ease of use (key fob included).

As for its running time, the iGen5000DFc, along with its 3.4 gallons fuel capacity, can run for up to 18 hours with a full tank filled with gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.19 GPH). If propane is used, it can operate for up to 22 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.21 GPH).

The iGen5000DFc produces a clean sine wave: thanks to a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), your sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets.

Outlets

The control panel provides the upcoming 3 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R)
120V 30A (TT-30R) receptacle

In addition, it provides 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) allowing you to conveniently charge electronics such as mobile phones and tablets.

Featuring a TT-30R receptacle (TT for 'Travel Trailer'), this Westinghouse generator is RV Ready, designed specifically for use with recreational vehicles.

Portability

The Westinghouse iGen5000DFc is distinguished by its enclosed inverter generator design (L24.5 x W17.5 x H20 in), providing improved aesthetics and quieter performance compared to traditional, open frame units. The featured design follows the latest trends and is ideal for easy and recreational use.

With a dry weight of 105.8 lbs, the iGen5000DFc is manageable, ensuring it can accompany you wherever you need power. Furthermore, once placed on the floor, simple displacement is possible thanks to its set of 2 wheels (⌀5.5") and its telescopic handle.

Features

Panel of the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc

The iGen5000DFc's control panel

To help you monitor the iGen5000DFc's status and activity, its control panel is equipped with a digital data center, giving you information on the remaining run time, power output, fuel level, voltage and lifetime run hours.

In addition to this info, several light indicators serve to show you when the generator is on overload, the generator is ready and the oil level is too low.

Regarding security, the generator comes with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, providing peace of mind during operation.

It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.

Along the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), useful for starting the generator right away, the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc's package also includes these accessories: key fob, funnel, battery charger, propane hose, oil and tool kit. An official running cover and a suitable storage cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Westinghouse iGen5000DFc versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).

  • Having a dry weight of 105.8 lbs, the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc belongs in the expected weight range for inverter generators which produce 3500 to 4500 rated watts. Weight-conscious users may find the WEN 56432iX appealing, as it is one of the top contenders in this power range, weighing just 52.9 pounds.
  • As its lowest possible noise is rated at 52 dBA, this inverter generator qualifies as one of the most quiet of the products of similar type and power.
  • At a 25% load, the iGen5000DFc offers up to 18 hours of runtime on a full tank, placing it within the average autonomy range among inverter generators of similar power level. Furthermore, considering the run times, one of the generators which have a roughly same power output, with the highest autonomy, is the Champion 200977, as it provides up to 22 hours.
  • The run time is important, but also hugely depends on the capacity of the fuel tank and doesn't mean much if we don't talk about fuel consumption as well. At an estimated fuel consumption of 0.19 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load, this inverter generator is a rather fuel-efficient one within its wattage category. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the Champion 201319. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.16 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3500-4500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Westinghouse iGen5000DFc is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

About Westinghouse

The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China and Vietnam.

Warranty Information

The Westinghouse iGen5000DFc is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.
