Zoom on the Westinghouse iGen5000DF
In short, the Westinghouse iGen5000DF is a quiet and compact portable inverter generator adequately designed for:
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
- Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
- Camping and tailgating buffs looking to enhance their experience
In the forthcoming sections, you'll delve into its power characteristics, the various outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the additional features it boasts.
Power & Run Time
Featuring dual-fuel technology, the Westinghouse iGen5000DF provides 120V, and offers both power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 3,900W and a starting wattage of 5,000W. When propane-powered, it offers 3,500 running watts and 4,500 starting watts. Moreover, the parallel capability (parallel cord (opens in a new tab) not included) enables increasing of power output when paired with another similar or compatible unit, providing increased energy capacity and versatility for a wide range of needs.
The inverter generator has a low noise rating of 52 dBA (just slightly more noisy than rainfall), which earned it a place in our 10 quietest portable generators. Its starting mechanisms include a classic hand-operated recoil starting mechanism and a straightforward and intuitive electric starter (battery included). Furthermore, the iGen5000DF can be remotely started, providing users with added ease of use (key fob included).
Regarding its running time, the iGen5000DF, with a 3.4 gallons fuel capacity, can operate for up to 18 hours with a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.19 GPH). When using propane, it can run for up to 22 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.21 GPH).
The iGen5000DF produces a clean sine wave: thanks to a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), your sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel provides the upcoming 3 AC outlets:
In addition, it provides 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) providing convenient charging capabilities for mobile phones, tablets, and other electronic devices.
Thanks to its TT-30R receptacle (TT stands for 'Travel Trailer'), this Westinghouse generator is RV Ready, making it ideal for powering recreational vehicles.
Portability
The Westinghouse iGen5000DF is distinguished by its enclosed inverter generator design (L24.5 x W17.5 x H20 in), providing improved aesthetics and quieter performance compared to traditional, open frame units. The generator has a contemporary design, convenient for recreationally generating power.
While the generator is considered to be technically 'portable' (in the sense that you can move it), manually lifting and transporting it may be challenging, due to its high weight of 104.7 lbs. Nevertheless, the restricted maneuverability is counteracted by its set of 2 wheels (⌀5.5") and its telescopic handle, enabling easy shifting once the generator is set in place.
Features
Designed with a digital data center, the control panel of the iGen5000DF grants you access to crucial data on the fuel level, remaining run time, lifetime run hours, voltage and power output, ensuring practical monitoring of its status and activity.
In addition to this info, light indicators on the device will notify you if its oil levels are insufficient, the generator is ready and the generator is on overload.
As far as security is concerned, the generator comes with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), providing peace of mind during use.
Along the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), useful for starting the generator right away, the Westinghouse iGen5000DF's package also includes these accessories: battery charger, propane hose, funnel, oil, key fob and tool kit. An official running cover and a suitable storage cover are also available, as separate purchases.

The Westinghouse iGen5000DF versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse iGen5000DF compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- Having a dry weight of 104.7 lbs, the Westinghouse iGen5000DF belongs in the expected weight range for inverter generators which produce 3500 to 4500 rated watts. Weight-conscious users may find the WEN 56432iX appealing, as it is one of the top contenders in this power range, weighing just 52.9 pounds.
- At just 52 dBA rated noise level, this inverter generator is positioned as one of the quietest choices among devices delivering similar type and power.
- The iGen5000DF, falls within the average autonomy range compared to inverter generators of a roughly same power, with a run time of up to 18 hours at a 25% load and a full tank. If runtime is a priority for you, the Firman WH03662OF stands out as one of the generators with the longest run time in its power range, providing up to 25 hours of continuous use.
- Run time is crucial, but it heavily relies on the fuel tank's capacity. Thus, considering fuel efficiency alongside is essential. Among generators of similar power, this inverter generator stands out with a better fuel efficiency than most, with consumption rates around 0.19 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load. If you wish to get a unit of similar power, but with one of the best fuel efficiency, you could consider the Champion 201319, which has an impressively low fuel consumption of 0.16 GPH.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3500-4500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Westinghouse iGen5000DF is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China and Vietnam.
Warranty Information
The Westinghouse iGen5000DF is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.

Can you operate this inside of a RV generator compartment? (Asked March 13, 2021)
You probably can, as long as you are mindful of all safety aspects, and keep at least 3 feet of clearance on all sides of the generator, including overhead.
can you hook up an exhaust pipe to vent to the outside? (Asked April 23, 2021)
Absolutely not! You must always operate your generator outside, where there is enough airflow and ventilation. NEVER run a generator indoors. Carbon monoxide can kill you in minutes.
I live at 5000 feet elevation and sometimes camp above 8000 feet. Do I need to purchase a high altitude jet for this device? (Asked May 06, 2021)
It's absolutely recommended. Note that in addition to the high altitude carburetor kit, you'll also need to purchase a high altitude dual fuel regulator.
With propane as the fuel source, if you turn off the generator via the panel or using the remote fob does the propane continue to flow at some rate and cause an explosion hazard? Or does the generator have a propane control valve that stops the flow when the generator is not running? Having a remote start capability for a generator running on propane would seem pointless if the generator cannot stop the gas flow when necessary. (Asked August 14, 2021)
You would have to manually open/close your propane tank valve.
what is the advantage of the parallel ports. can this offer 240 volt operation with a 2nd generator? thank you (Asked November 22, 2021)
Paralleling 2 units will increase the maximum available current, but will have no effect on voltage.
