Zoom on the Westinghouse iGen5000DF
To sum up, the Westinghouse iGen5000DF is a quiet and compact portable inverter generator tailored for:
- RV travellers looking for even more independence
- Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
- Camping and tailgating buffs looking to enhance their experience
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device.
Power & Run Time
With its dual-fuel technology, the powerful and versatile Westinghouse iGen5000DF provides an output of 120V. While gasoline-powered, it gives a running wattage of 3,900W along with a peak wattage of 5,000W. While propane-powered, it provides 3,500 rated watts and 4,500 starting watts. In addition, the parallel capability (parallel cord (opens in a new tab) not included) empowers increasing of power output when linked to another similar or compatible unit, ensuring expanded energy capacity and reliability for various applications.
The inverter generator features a simple traditional pull-start mechanism and also an intuitive and practical electric starter (battery included). It is rated for a low noise of 52 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a quiet suburb) which places it in our list of the 10 quietest portable generators. Additionally, the iGen5000DF may be remotely started, enhancing user convenience (key fob included).
With a fuel capacity of 3.4 gallons, the iGen5000DF can operate for up to 18 hours using gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.19 GPH), or for up to 22 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.21 GPH) using propane.
Featuring a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the iGen5000DF delivers a clean sine wave, guaranteeing the safety of your sensitive electronics plugged into its AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel features 3 AC outlets as follows:
In addition, it provides 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) with which charging of electronics like mobile phones and tablets is made convenient.
Thanks to its TT-30R receptacle (TT meaning 'Travel Trailer'), this Westinghouse generator is RV Ready, ready to power your recreational vehicle with ease.
Portability
Thanks to its closed inverter generator design (L24.5 x W17.5 x H20 in), the Westinghouse iGen5000DF not only offers superior aesthetics but also operates with reduced noise levels compared to a typical, open frame generator. This modern design aims to provide an ideal power solution to recreational users.
While technically classified as 'portable' due to its ability to be moved, the 104.7 lbs of this generator make manual lifting and transportation incredibly difficult. However, its challenging mobility is solved by its set of 2 wheels (⌀5.5") and its telecospic handle, which will ease its displacement, once it is on the floor.
Features
One of the many iGen5000DF's features is the digital data center, included in its control panel, which conveniently provides information on the fuel level, voltage, lifetime run hours, power output and remaining run time and thus, helps you monitor its activity and status.
In addition to this info, light indicators on the device will signal if its oil levels are insufficient, the generator is ready and the generator is overloaded.
As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker).
Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the Westinghouse iGen5000DF is bundled with additional accessories: battery charger, propane hose, key fob, tool kit, funnel and oil. An official running cover and a suitable storage cover are also available, as separate purchases.
The Westinghouse iGen5000DF versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse iGen5000DF compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- At 104.7 lbs dry, the Westinghouse iGen5000DF is consistent with the standard weight profile for inverters ranging from 3500 to 4500 rated watts. If weight is your top priority, one of the champions in this power category is the Genmax GM4600iAEFIC, weighing just 58.4 pounds.
- With noise levels starting from 52 dBA rating, this inverter generator stands out as one of the most quiet options among products of similar type and power.
- At a 25% load, the iGen5000DF's up to 18 hours of runtime on a full tank fall within the average autonomy range for similarly powerful inverter generators. For those prioritizing autonomy, the Firman W03661OF could be considered, as it offers one of the longest run times among generators with similar power output, reaching up to 25 hours.
- While the run time is an important parameter, it is dependent on the fuel tank's capacity and thus, doesn't say much on its own unless we consider fuel consumption as well. This inverter generator is one of the more fuel-efficient options in its power range, consuming approximately 0.19 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load. If you're placing a high priority on fuel consumption, the Champion 201319, with a low fuel consumption rate of 0.16 GPH, could be an option to consider.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3500-4500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Westinghouse iGen5000DF is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China.
Warranty Information
The Westinghouse iGen5000DF is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.

Can you operate this inside of a RV generator compartment? (Asked March 13, 2021)
You probably can, as long as you are mindful of all safety aspects, and keep at least 3 feet of clearance on all sides of the generator, including overhead.
can you hook up an exhaust pipe to vent to the outside? (Asked April 23, 2021)
Absolutely not! You must always operate your generator outside, where there is enough airflow and ventilation. NEVER run a generator indoors. Carbon monoxide can kill you in minutes.
I live at 5000 feet elevation and sometimes camp above 8000 feet. Do I need to purchase a high altitude jet for this device? (Asked May 06, 2021)
It's absolutely recommended. Note that in addition to the high altitude carburetor kit, you'll also need to purchase a high altitude dual fuel regulator.
With propane as the fuel source, if you turn off the generator via the panel or using the remote fob does the propane continue to flow at some rate and cause an explosion hazard? Or does the generator have a propane control valve that stops the flow when the generator is not running? Having a remote start capability for a generator running on propane would seem pointless if the generator cannot stop the gas flow when necessary. (Asked August 14, 2021)
You would have to manually open/close your propane tank valve.
what is the advantage of the parallel ports. can this offer 240 volt operation with a 2nd generator? thank you (Asked November 22, 2021)
Paralleling 2 units will increase the maximum available current, but will have no effect on voltage.
