Power & Run Time

The Westinghouse iGen4000DFc in use

The Westinghouse iGen4000DFc

Delivering 120V, the Westinghouse iGen4000DFc is enhanced by dual-fuel technology, providing power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it boasts a running wattage of 3,300W and a starting wattage of 4,000W. Alternatively, when propane-powered, it delivers 2,970 running watts and 3,600 starting watts. Moreover, the parallel capability (parallel kit included) enables increasing of power output when paired with another similar or compatible unit, providing increased energy capacity and versatility for a wide range of needs.

Enjoying a low noise rating of 52 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a conversation at home) which earned this unit its place in our list of the 10 quietest portable generators, it can be started thanks to a classic hand-operated recoil starting mechanism, but also to a convenient and efficient electric starter (battery included). In addition, the iGen4000DFc also supports remote starting, enhancing user convenience (key fob included).

With a fuel capacity of 1.66 gallon, the iGen4000DFc can operate for up to 7 hours using gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.24 GPH), or for up to 17 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.28 GPH) using propane.

The iGen4000DFc generates a clean sine wave with <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), ensuring minimal electrical noise and fluctuations. This feature makes it ideal for powering sensitive electronics, providing stable and reliable AC power through the outlets.

Outlets

The control panel is equipped with the following 3 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R)
120V 30A (TT-30R) receptacle

Furthermore, it has 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) with which you may charge electronics, for example mobile phones or tablets, conveniently.

This Westinghouse generator is RV Ready, thanks to its TT-30R receptacle (TT stands for 'Travel Trailer').

Portability

With an inverter generator design, the Westinghouse iGen4000DFc features a closed construction (L21.3 x W12.6 x H19.3 in), enhancing aesthetics and ensuring reduced noise levels, offering a distinct advantage over standard, open frame generators. The featured design follows the latest trends and is ideal for easy and recreational use.

The 62.8 lbs of the iGen4000DFc's dry weight enables you to use it anywhere you will ever need. Additionally, its set of 2 wheels and its telecospic handle will allow for simple relovation of the generator once it's on the ground.

Features

Panel of the Westinghouse iGen4000DFc

The iGen4000DFc's control panel

Included in the control panel of the iGen4000DFc, a digital data center assists in tracking its status and activity by providing details on the lifetime run hours, voltage, fuel level and power output. To offer you even more control and easy operation during nighttime, the panel is LED-lit.

In addition to this info, the device’s light indicators will display if its oil levels are insufficient, the generator is on overload and the generator is ready.

As far as security is concerned, the generator comes with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), providing peace of mind during use.

It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.

With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the Westinghouse iGen4000DFc also comes with several accessories, including: funnel, key fob, tool kit, battery charger, propane hose and oil.

The Westinghouse iGen4000DFc versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse iGen4000DFc compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 2500 and 3500 W).

  • In terms of its weight, the Westinghouse iGen4000DFc weighs merely 62.8 pounds, earning it a spot among the lighter inverter generators within the 2500 to 3500 rated wattage category. If weight is an important consideration for you, the Pulsar PGD40iSCO stands out as one of the top contenders in this power category, with a dry weight of 46 pounds.
  • At a lowest noise rating of 52 dBA, this inverter generator is one of the quieter devices of similar type and power. If noise is a concern for you, you could consider the Honda EU3000iS, which is one of the least noisy generators in its power range, rated at 50 dBA.
  • As far as autonomy is concerned, providing up to 7 hours of runtime with a full tank at a 25% load, the iGen4000DFc falls into the low end in comparison with other inverters of a comparable power output. If prolonged run time is essential to your needs, you could consider the Champion 200977, which offers one of the highest autonomy among devices with similar power output, lasting up to 22 hours.
  • The run time is important, but also hugely depends on the capacity of the fuel tank and doesn't mean much if we don't talk about fuel consumption as well. This inverter generator doesn't excel in fuel efficiency when compared to others of its kind: it consumes approximately 0.24 GPH at a 25% load. If you wish to further improve in the area of fuel efficiency, the Energizer eZV3500P, which boasts with a gas consumption of only 0.13 GPH, may be the right generator for you.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 2500-3500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Westinghouse iGen4000DFc is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

About Westinghouse

The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China.

Warranty Information

The Westinghouse iGen4000DFc is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.

Westinghouse’s DBA noise rating is false, I have this generator and it’s at best 61 DBA from 25 feet in the grass. I spoke to a Westinghouse customer service person and asked them why they list almost all of their Inverter Generations at 52 DBA. They said that just what they do.. WHAT?? I have also looked at many YouTube reviews for Igen4500,4000,2200,2500,2550 done by reputable YouTubers and NONE of them have rated any of these models below 60 DBA from 25 feet. I’m not saying they are not good generators because they are good. It would expect Westinghouse to list accurate rating and not deceive the consumers with false ratings !!

    + PROS:
    • Great features
    • Remote key fob
    • Good Warranty
    • Light weight for a 4000 watt
    - CONS:
    • Louder than advertised
    • Rear wheels and handel rattle
