Zoom on the Westinghouse iGen4000DFc
In summary, the Westinghouse iGen4000DFc is a quiet, compact and lightweight portable inverter generator especially useful for:
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
- People occasionally participating in outdoor fairs, festivals or events
- Amateur DIY lovers
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device.
Power & Run Time
Featuring dual-fuel technology, the Westinghouse iGen4000DFc provides 120V, and offers both power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 3,300W and a starting wattage of 4,000W. When propane-powered, it offers 2,970 running watts and 3,600 starting watts. Moreover, since it is parallel capable (parallel kit included), its power may be increased if linked to a second compatible unit.
Enjoying a really low noise rating of 52 dBA (just slightly more noisy than rainfall), securing it a place in our list of 10 quietest portable generators, the inverter generator can be started via a simple traditional pull-start mechanism, or a straightforward and intuitive electric starter (battery included). To increase convenience, the iGen4000DFc offers remote starting functionality, allowing for easy operation from a distance (key fob included).
Regarding its running time, the iGen4000DFc, with a 1.66 gallon fuel tank, can operate for up to 7 hours with a full gasoline tank (with fuel consumption estimated at around 0.24 gallons per hour). It also offers up to 17 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.28 GPH) of operation when using propane.
Sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets, as the iGen4000DFc produces a clean sine wave, with a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 3 AC outlets:
Moreover, it presents 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) with which you may charge electronics, for example mobile phones or tablets, conveniently.
Featuring a TT-30R receptacle (TT for 'Travel Trailer'), this Westinghouse generator is RV Ready, designed specifically for use with recreational vehicles.
Portability
The Westinghouse iGen4000DFc's characteristic encased inverter generator design (L21.3 x W12.6 x H19.3 in) provides an aesthetic advantage and contributes to quieter operation compared to any ordinary, open frame product. This type of design is the most modern and convenient way to recreationally generate power.
Weighing 62.8 lbs, the iGen4000DFc is easily handled, ensuring it can go wherever your power needs are. Moreover, its set of 2 wheels and its telecospic handle facilitate movement of the generator once it's on the ground.
Features
One of the many iGen4000DFc's features is the digital data center, included in its control panel, which conveniently provides information on the fuel level, lifetime run hours, power output and voltage and thus, helps you monitor its activity and status. To offer you even more control and easy operation during nighttime, the panel is LED-lit.
In addition to this info, light indicators on the device will signal if the generator is overloaded, the generator is ready and its oil levels are insufficient.
From a security standpoint, the generator is furnished with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, ensuring peace of mind during operation.
It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the Westinghouse iGen4000DFc, the following accessories are also included: propane hose, funnel, oil, tool kit, key fob and battery charger.
The Westinghouse iGen4000DFc versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse iGen4000DFc compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 2500 and 3500 W).
- In terms of its weight, the Westinghouse iGen4000DFc weighs merely 62.8 pounds, earning it a spot among the lighter inverter generators within the 2500 to 3500 rated wattage category. If weight is an important consideration for you, the Pulsar PGD40iSCO stands out as one of the top contenders in this power category, with a dry weight of 46 pounds.
- At a lowest noise rating of 52 dBA, this inverter generator is one of the quieter devices of similar type and power. If noise is a concern for you, you could consider the Honda EU3000iS, which is one of the least noisy generators in its power range, rated at 50 dBA.
- As far as autonomy is concerned, providing up to 7 hours of runtime with a full tank at a 25% load, the iGen4000DFc falls into the low end in comparison with other inverters of a comparable power output. If prolonged run time is essential to your needs, you could consider the Champion 200977, which offers one of the highest autonomy among devices with similar power output, lasting up to 22 hours.
- The run time is important, but also hugely depends on the capacity of the fuel tank and doesn't mean much if we don't talk about fuel consumption as well. This inverter generator doesn't excel in fuel efficiency when compared to others of its kind: it consumes approximately 0.24 GPH at a 25% load. If you wish to further improve in the area of fuel efficiency, the Energizer eZV3500P, which boasts with a gas consumption of only 0.13 GPH, may be the right generator for you.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 2500-3500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Westinghouse iGen4000DFc is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China.
Warranty Information
The Westinghouse iGen4000DFc is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.

User Reviews
Westinghouse’s DBA noise rating is false, I have this generator and it’s at best 61 DBA from 25 feet in the grass. I spoke to a Westinghouse customer service person and asked them why they list almost all of their Inverter Generations at 52 DBA. They said that just what they do.. WHAT?? I have also looked at many YouTube reviews for Igen4500,4000,2200,2500,2550 done by reputable YouTubers and NONE of them have rated any of these models below 60 DBA from 25 feet. I’m not saying they are not good generators because they are good. It would expect Westinghouse to list accurate rating and not deceive the consumers with false ratings !!
