Description
Zoom on the Westinghouse iGen2800
In short, the Westinghouse iGen2800 is a quiet, compact and lightweight portable inverter generator adequately designed for:
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
- Handcrafting enthusiasts who wish to work on-the-go
The subsequent sections will explore in detail its power characteristics, the diverse outlets it provides, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it offers.
Power & Run Time
The Westinghouse iGen2800 houses a 98 cc (3.4 hp) Westinghouse OHV 4-stroke engine, which provides 120V, consumes gasoline and delivers a running wattage of 2,200W along with a peak wattage of 2,800W. In addition, as it is parallel capable (Westinghouse WHPC Parallel Cord (opens in a new tab) not included), this power can be doubled when linked to another similar or compatible unit.
Operating at a noise rating of 52 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a quiet suburb), this inverter generator starts up with a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism.
The iGen2800 boasts a fuel tank capable of holding 1 gallon, allowing it to run continuously for up to 12 hours (with fuel usage averaging around 0.08 gallons per hour).
Featuring a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the iGen2800 delivers a clean sine wave, guaranteeing the safety of your sensitive electronics plugged into its AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 2 AC outlets:
Furthermore, it showcases 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) with which charging of electronics like mobile phones and tablets is made convenient.
Portability
Since the Westinghouse iGen2800 is an inverter generator, its closed design (L19.8 x W11.4 x H17.9 in) not only provides an aesthetic advantage but also contributes to reduced noise levels compared to conventional, open frame devices. The featured design follows the latest trends and is ideal for easy and recreational use.
The iGen2800's weight, at just 46.3 lbs, makes it an ideal choice for those seeking a lightweight and portable generator. The device can be easily moved by just one person and thus, its power may be enjoyed on-the-go. The inclusion of a handle (molded in the case) makes carrying it a breeze, adding to its convenience.
Features
For easy status and activity monitoring of the iGen2800, its control panel integrates a digital data center, offering insights into the lifetime run hours, voltage, remaining run time, frequency, power output and fuel level.
In addition to this info, some light indicators allow you to instantly see if the generator is ready, the oil level is too low and the generator is overloaded.
As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker).
Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the Westinghouse iGen2800 also is packed along with the following accessories: tool kit, funnel and oil.

The Westinghouse iGen2800 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse iGen2800 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).
- Since the generator weighs in at a dry weight of 46.3 lbs, the Westinghouse iGen2800 belongs in the expected weight range for inverters which can produce between 1500 and 2500 rated watts. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the Genmax GM2000i, with a dry weight of just 34.2 pounds.
- With a noise rating as low as 52 dBA, this inverter generator is among the quieter options available in its type and power range. If you'd like a less noisy alternative, the Honda EU2200i is a strong contender. It boasts a noise rating of 48 dBA, placing it among the quietest generators in its power category.
- At 25% load, the iGen2800 achieves one of the longer run times compared to inverters of similar power, sustaining operations for up to 12 hours. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the DuroMax XP2300iH, with up to 13 hours.
- Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. This inverter generator, with an estimated fuel consumption of just 0.08 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load, is one of the most fuel-efficient generators, for the previously mentioned wattage range.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 1500-2500W inverter generators, the Westinghouse iGen2800 is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
The bottom line
- In the expected price range
- Several accessories included
- Parallel capable
- Inverter
- Quiet for its power (52 dBA)
- High run time
- Fuel efficient
- Decent weight (46.3 lbs)
The Westinghouse iGen2800 doesn't have any notably low specs.

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China.
Warranty Information
The Westinghouse iGen2800 is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.

User Reviews
The only difference i see is that i get 59.1 db at 50 feet. Also, it cuts off by itself after running awile. I suspect that it ijust is a linkage adjustment.
I have three of these. They seem to all run exactly the same rpm. I have found all three of them difficult to start when sitting more than a few days. Takes sometimes 50 pulls. Possibly pulling the gas cap for a few minutes before starting helps allow fuel to flow to the carburetor. Also they must be started switched out of Eco mode. This generator will run a RV microwave and air conditoner fitted with a easy start kit. The fuel consumption is great and when paralled with a seond unit works well to power a small to medium home with FAU, and two refrigerators.
Perfectly packaged. Shipped literally cross country,Washington state to south Fla. Did everything as stated in owners manual. Currently running two in parallel to operate motorhome. Both arrived in perfect condition. Heck of a deal at Sam’s club.
Sams.. Looked rough out of box.
Packing materials not good.
Not fully tested yet so can’t say much. Will up date after.
