Description
Zoom on the Westinghouse iGen1500c
In a nutshell, the Westinghouse iGen1500c is a quiet, compact and lightweight portable inverter generator mostly geared towards:
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
- Handcrafting enthusiasts who wish to work on-the-go
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.
Power & Run Time
The Westinghouse iGen1500c's core is the 56 cc OHV 4-stroke engine, which runs on gasoline. With an output of 120V, it provides a running wattage of 1,000W and a peak wattage of 1,500W. In addition, the device is parallel capable (parallel kit included) and thus, can be linked to a similar or compatible unit for added power.
The inverter generator is rated for a noise of 52 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a quiet suburb). Its starting mechanism is based on a simple traditional pull-start mechanism.
Thanks to a fuel capacity of 0.79 gallon, the iGen1500c can operate for up to 12 hours with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.07 GPH).
Sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets, as the iGen1500c produces a clean sine wave, with a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).
Outlets
The control panel provides the upcoming 2 AC outlets:
Additionally, it features 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) with which charging of electronics like mobile phones and tablets is made convenient.
Portability
As the Westinghouse iGen1500c is an inverter generator, its encased design (L17 x W10.5 x H16 in) offers more aesthetics than a conventional, open frame product. This type of design is the most modern and convenient way to recreationally generate power.
Labeled a lightweight portable generator, the iGen1500c weighs just 33 lbs. The product’s power can be enjoyed on-the-go, as it can be moved by a single person without trouble. In addition, a handle (molded in the case) lets you carry it easily and further increases its convenience.
Good to know: This unit ranks 8th in our list of the 10 smallest portable generators.
Features
Some light indicators allow you to instantly see if the generator is ready, the generator is overloaded and the oil level is too low. To offer greater control and easy operation during nighttime, the panel is LED-lit.
From a security standpoint, the product offers an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.
It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the Westinghouse iGen1500c also comes with some accessories: oil, tool kit and funnel are included.
Emissions
The Westinghouse iGen1500c is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. It can therefore be sold and purchased in all 50 states, including California.
Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, so it is adequate for use in forested areas.
The Westinghouse iGen1500c versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse iGen1500c compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1000 and 2000 W).
- As for its weight, the Westinghouse iGen1500c weighs only 33 pounds, making it one of the lighter inverter generators in the 1000-2000 rated wattage category. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the Genmax GM1200i with only 25.3 pounds.
- As its lowest possible noise is rated at 52 dBA, this inverter generator qualifies as one of the more quiet of the products of similar type and power. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may be interested in the Honda EU2200i, one of the least noisy generators similarly powerful as this one, rated for 48 dBA.
- As the iGen1500c features an autonomy of up to 12 hours at 25% load, it has a higher run time than an average generator of its type and power range. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the DuroMax XP2300iH, with up to 13 hours.
- Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. This inverter generator, with an estimated fuel consumption of just 0.07 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load, is one of the most fuel efficient generators, for the previously mentioned wattage range.
Price comparison
As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 1000-2000W inverter generators, the Westinghouse iGen1500c is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China.
Warranty Information
The Westinghouse iGen1500c is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.
