Description
Zoom on the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc
In a nutshell, the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc is a powerful portable inverter generator mostly geared towards:
- Small homeowners in search of a full power backup solution
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
In the sections ahead, the power characteristics, availability of various outlets, the portability, and any additional features of the device shall be discussed.
Power & Run Time
The Westinghouse iGen11000DFc, equipped with dual-fuel technology and delivering 120/240V, ensures both power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 9,000W and a starting wattage of 11,000W. On propane, it provides 8,100 running watts and 10,000 starting watts. Moreover, since it is parallel capable (parallel kit included), its power may be increased if linked to a second compatible unit.
At a noise rating of 64 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a normal conversation), this inverter generator provides the choice between a standard recoil pull-rope starting mechanism or a convenient and efficient electric starter (battery included) for starting. Additionally, the iGen11000DFc may be remotely started, enhancing user convenience (key fob included).
As for its running time, the iGen11000DFc, along with its 7.9 gallons fuel capacity, can run for up to 17 hours with a full tank filled with gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.46 GPH). If propane is used, it can operate for up to 9.8 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.48 GPH).
Sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets, as the iGen11000DFc produces a clean sine wave, with a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).
Outlets
The control panel provides the upcoming 4 AC outlets:
If you own an RV with a 50-amp service, you can consider this Westinghouse unit as RV-ready, as it features a 14-50R outlet. In addition, since it boasts a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the iGen11000DFc is engineered to be transfer switch ready, ensuring easy integration with your breaker box to provide backup power to your home during outages.
Westinghouse's ST Switch Outlet

The ST Switch outlet
The iGen11000DFc is what Westinghouse calls Smart Switch Ready. This means that it features a special outlet that allows for an automatic transfer of power in case of a power outage.
To benefit from this feature, you'll need the Westinghouse ST Switch (opens in a new tab), which is not included with the generator.
Simply put, the ST Switch is a cost-effective and versatile portable automatic transfer switch, which can be installed quickly and easily, without an electrician.
Plug the ST Switch into one of your household 120V outlets, plug your appliances to the ST Switch, and connect the iGen11000DFc to the ST Switch via the special outlet and a 120V cord. The generator will automatically turn on when the power goes out, and automatically turn off when the power returns.
Portability
The Westinghouse iGen11000DFc is distinguished by its enclosed inverter generator design (L30.2 x W25.2 x H26.6 in), providing improved aesthetics and quieter performance compared to traditional, open frame units. This modern design aims to provide an ideal power solution to recreational users.
While weighing 187.4 lbs, the generator is classified as 'portable,' indicating its mobility, albeit its heftiness may limit portability in specific situations. Nonetheless, the limited maneuverability is compensated for by utilizing its set of 2 wheels and its folding handle, which facilitates shifting once the generator is set on the ground.
Features
Enhancing monitoring capabilities, the iGen11000DFc features a digital data center within its control panel, furnishing essential details on the power output, frequency, fuel level, voltage and lifetime run hours for tracking activity and status.
In addition to this info, light indicators on the device will signal if the generator is on overload, its oil levels are insufficient and the generator is ready.
As far as security is concerned, the generator comes with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, providing peace of mind during use.
It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc also is packed along with the following accessories: battery charger, funnel, tool kit, oil, key fob and propane hose.

The Westinghouse iGen11000DFc versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc compare to generators of similar power (between 8500 and 9500 W).
- As far as its dry weight is concerned, the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc weighs just 187.4 pounds and thus, it is one of the lightest 8500 to 9500 rated wattage generators.
- Since this inverter generator is rated for a lowest possible noise of 64 dBA, it can be considered as one of the more quiet of the products generating similar power. If you wish to prioritize minimal noise, the DuroMax XP11000iH stands out as one of the quietest options among generators of similar power, with a rating of 61 dBA.
- Among its devices with similar power, the iGen11000DFc offers one of the higher run times, running for up to 17 hours at 25% load. If autonomy is your priority, one of the devices of a similar power output with the highest run time is the Westinghouse iGen11000TFc, reaching up to 19 hours.
- Though run time is a significant parameter, it's closely tied to the generator's fuel tank size. To get a comprehensive understanding, fuel efficiency must also be taken into account. As this inverter generator uses an estimated 0.46 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 25% load, it finds itself in the average gasoline consumption range of similar products. If you wish to acquire one of the most gasoline efficient products of this power range, the DuroMax XP11000iH, with a fuel consumption of 0.39 GPH could be in your good books.

About Westinghouse
The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China and Vietnam.
