Power & Run Time

The Westinghouse iGen11000DFc in use

The Westinghouse iGen11000DFc

Featuring dual-fuel technology, the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc provides 120/240V, and offers both power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 9,000W and a starting wattage of 11,000W. When propane-powered, it offers 8,000 running watts and 10,000 starting watts. The impressive running wattage makes this unit one of the biggest inverter generators currently on the market. Moreover, since it is parallel capable (parallel kit included), its power may be increased if linked to a second compatible unit.

The inverter generator features a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism and also a user-friendly and efficient electric starter (battery included). It is rated for a noise of 64 dBA (just slightly more noisy than background music). Additionally, the iGen11000DFc features remote starting, offering users increased convenience (key fob included).

Regarding its running time, the iGen11000DFc, with a 7.9 gallons fuel tank, can operate for up to 17 hours with a full gasoline tank (with fuel consumption estimated at around 0.46 gallons per hour). It also offers up to 9.8 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.48 GPH) of operation when using propane.

Thanks to its low <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the iGen11000DFc produces a clean sine wave output, making it safe for your sensitive electronics when utilizing the AC outlets.

The control panel features the upcoming 4 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

If you own an RV with a 50-amp service, you can consider this Westinghouse unit as RV-ready, as it features a 14-50R outlet. In addition, since it features a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the iGen11000DFc is tailored to be transfer switch ready, making it easy to connect it to your breaker box for home power support during outages.

Westinghouse's ST Switch Outlet

Picture of the ST Switch outlet

The ST Switch outlet

The iGen11000DFc is what Westinghouse calls Smart Switch Ready. This means that it features a special outlet that allows for an automatic transfer of power in case of a power outage.

To benefit from this feature, you'll need the Westinghouse ST Switch (opens in a new tab), which is not included with the generator.

Simply put, the ST Switch is a cost-effective and versatile portable automatic transfer switch, which can be installed quickly and easily, without an electrician.

Plug the ST Switch into one of your household 120V outlets, plug your appliances to the ST Switch, and connect the iGen11000DFc to the ST Switch via the special outlet and a 120V cord. The generator will automatically turn on when the power goes out, and automatically turn off when the power returns.

Thanks to its closed inverter generator design (L30.2 x W25.2 x H26.6 in), the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc not only offers superior aesthetics but also operates with reduced noise levels compared to a typical, open frame generator. This modern design aims to provide an ideal power solution to recreational users.

Although this generator is technically considered 'portable' (in the sense that it can be moved), its 187.4 lbs make it incredibly difficult to manually lift and transport. However, its challenging mobility is solved by its set of 2 wheels and its folding handle, which will ease its displacement, once it is on the floor.

The iGen11000DFc's control panel

A digital data center, one of the features of the iGen11000DFc's control panel, gives you information on the fuel level, voltage, frequency, power output and lifetime run hours, and thus, is helpful for the monitoring of its activity and status.

In addition to this info, light indicators on the device will notify you if its oil levels are insufficient, the generator is ready and the generator is overloaded.

Security-wise, this product benefits from an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.

It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.

Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc is bundled with additional accessories: tool kit, oil, funnel, battery charger, key fob and propane hose.

The Westinghouse iGen11000DFc versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 8500 and 9500 W).

  • As far as its dry weight is concerned, the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc weighs just 187.4 pounds and thus, it is one of the lightest 8500 to 9500 rated wattage dual fuel generators.
  • Delivering a rated noise output as low as 64 dBA, this inverter generator is has a quieter operation that most units of similar type and power. If you wish to prioritize minimal noise, the DuroMax XP11000iH stands out as one of the quietest options among generators of similar power, with a rating of 61 dBA.
  • The iGen11000DFc's runtime of up to 17 hours at a 25% load on a full tank positions it within the average autonomy range compared to other dual fuel generators with similar power. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the DuroMax XP10000DX, boasting with up to 22 hours.
  • Run time is crucial, but it heavily relies on the fuel tank's capacity. Thus, considering fuel efficiency alongside is essential. With a fuel usage of about 0.46 GPH at a 25% load, this inverter generator falls within the typical gasoline consumption range observed in comparably powerful products. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the DuroMax XP10000DX. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.38 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.

About Westinghouse

The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China.

What’s a parallel capable? (Asked June 05, 2024)

The generator can be linked to another identical or compatible unit to increase power output. It allows to have extra power when needed, without having to buy a larger generator.

Does the compatible generator or does it have to be the same kw and same name brand (Asked June 05, 2024)

We do not maintain a list of compatible units for different generators. We recommend directly contacting Westinghouse to know more.
