Power & Run Time

The Westinghouse iGen11000DFc in use

The Westinghouse iGen11000DFc

The Westinghouse iGen11000DFc, equipped with dual-fuel technology and delivering 120/240V, ensures both power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 9,000W and a starting wattage of 11,000W. On propane, it provides 8,000 running watts and 10,000 starting watts. The impressive running wattage makes this unit one of the biggest inverter generators currently on the market. Moreover, the parallel capability (parallel kit included) enables increasing of power output when paired with another similar or compatible unit, providing increased energy capacity and versatility for a wide range of needs.

Operating with a noise rating of 64 dBA (just slightly more noisy than an office), this inverter generator offers two starting options: a conventional pull-start mechanism and a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). The iGen11000DFc can also be remotely started, offering further convenience (key fob included).

The iGen11000DFc, with a fuel capacity of 7.9 gallons, reaches a run time of up to 17 hours utilizing gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.46 GPH). Alternatively, it can reach a run time of up to 9.8 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.48 GPH) with propane.

The iGen11000DFc produces a clean sine wave: thanks to a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), your sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets.

Outlets

The control panel provides the upcoming 4 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

For RV owners with a 50-amp service, this Westinghouse unit is RV-ready, boasting a 14-50R outlet. In addition, as the iGen11000DFc holds a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: you'll easily be able to connect it to your breaker box to power your home during a power outage.

Westinghouse's ST Switch Outlet

Picture of the ST Switch outlet

The ST Switch outlet

The iGen11000DFc is what Westinghouse calls Smart Switch Ready. This means that it features a special outlet that allows for an automatic transfer of power in case of a power outage.

To benefit from this feature, you'll need the Westinghouse ST Switch (opens in a new tab), which is not included with the generator.

Simply put, the ST Switch is a cost-effective and versatile portable automatic transfer switch, which can be installed quickly and easily, without an electrician.

Plug the ST Switch into one of your household 120V outlets, plug your appliances to the ST Switch, and connect the iGen11000DFc to the ST Switch via the special outlet and a 120V cord. The generator will automatically turn on when the power goes out, and automatically turn off when the power returns.

Portability

Since the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc is an inverter generator, its closed design (L30.2 x W25.2 x H26.6 in) not only provides an aesthetic advantage but also contributes to reduced noise levels compared to conventional, open frame devices. This modern design aims to provide an ideal power solution to recreational users.

As the generator's weight is 187.4 pounds, manually moving it or transporting it may be challenging, despite the fact that it is technically considered 'portable' (movable). Nevertheless, it can still be moved quite conveniently with the help of its set of 2 wheels and its folding handle, once it is placed on the ground.

Features

The iGen11000DFc's control panel

One of the many iGen11000DFc's features is the digital data center, included in its control panel, which conveniently provides information on the frequency, power output, fuel level, lifetime run hours and voltage and thus, helps you monitor its activity and status.

In addition to this info, several light indicators serve to show you when the generator is ready, the generator is on overload and the oil level is too low.

As for its security measures, the device features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, letting you use it with a peace of mind.

It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.

In addition to the traditional documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to help you get started promptly, the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc also includes several accessories: key fob, tool kit, battery charger, oil, propane hose and funnel.

The Westinghouse iGen11000DFc versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 8500 and 9500 W).

  • When it comes to weight, the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc tips the scales at just 187.4 pounds, making it one of the lightest dual fuel generators in the 8500 to 9500 rated wattage range.
  • With a noise rating as low as 64 dBA, this inverter generator is among the quieter options available in its type and power range. If you’d prefer a less noisy device, one of the most quiet devices, which share the same power range with this one, is the DuroMax XP11000iH, whose lowest noise levels reach just 61 dBA.
  • The iGen11000DFc provides up to 17 hours of runtime at a 25% load on a full tank, placing it within the average autonomy range among similar dual fuel generators. Furthermore, considering the run times, one of the generators which have a roughly same power output, with the highest autonomy, is the DuroMax XP10000DX, as it provides up to 22 hours.
  • The run time is important, but also hugely depends on the capacity of the fuel tank and doesn't mean much if we don't talk about fuel consumption as well. This inverter generator reaches an estimated fuel consumption of 0.46 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 25% load, making it average, for the previously mentioned wattage range. If you wish to further improve in the area of fuel efficiency, the DuroMax XP10000DX, which boasts with a gas consumption of only 0.38 GPH, may be the right generator for you.

About Westinghouse

The US based Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a legacy subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, founded in 1886. While the company has been acquired and merged into the American CBS, the Westinghouse name remains as the brand name for many of their electrical solutions, which stretch across the scale from power plants to portable generators. Portable generators – the main product of the Outdoor Power Equipment branch of Westinghouse – used to be manufactured by Westpro Power Systems, which was bought in 2016 by Midwest Equipment. Lawn equipment, such as trimmers and blowers, is also sold under the Westinghouse brand name. All of their products are designed in the US. However, they are in many cases manufactured in China.

Warranty Information

The Westinghouse iGen11000DFc is covered under a warranty for up to 3 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.

What’s a parallel capable? (Asked June 05, 2024)

The generator can be linked to another identical or compatible unit to increase power output. It allows to have extra power when needed, without having to buy a larger generator.

Does the compatible generator or does it have to be the same kw and same name brand (Asked June 05, 2024)

We do not maintain a list of compatible units for different generators. We recommend directly contacting Westinghouse to know more.
