Description
Zoom on the WEN GN5602X
In a nutshell, the WEN GN5602X is a portable generator mostly geared towards:
- RV travellers looking for even more independence
- People occasionally participating in outdoor fairs, festivals or events
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
Over the following sections, you'll uncover its power characteristics, the selection of outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it includes.
Power & Run Time
The WEN GN5602X's design includes a gasoline-fueled 224 cc OHV 4-stroke engine. With a 120V output, it gives a running wattage of 4,500W and also a peak wattage of 5,600W.
Equipped with a standard recoil pull-rope starting mechanism and a no-fuss and convenient electric starter (battery included), this generator provides versatile starting capabilities.
Thanks to its 4.36 gallons fuel tank, the GN5602X can run continuously for around 12.5 hours at 50% load on a full tank (with an average fuel consumption of approximately 0.35 GPH).
Outlets
The control panel features the upcoming 4 AC outlets:
Featuring a TT-30R receptacle (TT for 'Travel Trailer'), this WEN generator is RV Ready, designed specifically for use with recreational vehicles.
Portability
Measuring L22.8 x W23.6 x H23 in, the classic open frame build of the WEN GN5602X delivers stability and easy maintenance access to components, facilitating air circulation. The featured design is ideal for the outdoors and all tough environments.
Since the generator weighs 111.3 lbs, it could be potentially be difficult to manually lift it and transport it, even though it is technically considered to 'be portable' (in the sense that it is movable). Despite the restricted maneuverability, its wheel kit and its folding handle provides a solution, allowing for convenient shifting once the generator is positioned on the ground.
Features
For convenient monitoring of its status and activity, the control panel of the GN5602X includes a convenient meter, providing voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours data.
In addition to this info, a light indicator on the device will signal if its oil levels are insufficient.
The built-in fuel gauge of the generator ensures simple and quick gas level assessments.
From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), giving you a peace of mind during use.
The unit also benefits from WEN's CO Watchdog carbon monoxide detection. This system measures the accumulation of poisonous CO gas while the generator is running. If the level of CO gas gets too high, the CO Watchdog system will automatically shut down the generator.
Apart from the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to facilitate setup, the WEN GN5602X features extra accessories: tool kit and funnel. An official storage cover is also available, as a separate purchase.
The WEN GN5602X versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the WEN GN5602X compare to generators of similar power (between 4000 and 5000 W).
- At 111.3 lbs dry, the WEN GN5602X is consistent with the standard weight profile for devices ranging from 4000 to 5000 rated watts. If weight is an important consideration for you, the Pulsar PGX5250BiXCO stands out as one of the top contenders in this power category, with a dry weight of 64 pounds.
- At 50% load, the GN5602X achieves one of the longer run times compared to devices of similar power, sustaining operations for around 12.5 hours. If prolonged run time is essential to your needs, you could consider the NorthStar c5500, which offers one of the highest autonomy among devices with similar power output, lasting around 15.1 hours.
- While run time matters, it's heavily influenced by the fuel tank's capacity. Hence, it's important to consider fuel efficiency alongside. Among generators of similar power, this generator stands out with a better fuel efficiency than most, with consumption rates around 0.35 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the WEN DF480iX, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.27 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 4000-5000W generators, the WEN GN5602X is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.
The bottom line
- Inexpensive
- CO Watchdog
- RV Ready
- Electric start
- High run time
- Fuel efficient
- Decent weight (111.3 lbs)
- No remote start

Great Investment On A Wonderful Product
This last storm system Michigan had, I had the chance to use it for about 24 hours. I powered a standard fridge on bottom and freezer on top. A 65 inch tv with a Chromecast. Charged my iPad. Had 2 hue lights on. I powered a Nighthawk router along with a cable modem. My Hue bridge, smart garage door gateway, and my printer, 2 smartphones and a medium size fan. I love the electric start feature. After all that, this thing could still handle more. I only used about 8 gallons or 2 tanks in 24 hours.
