Zoom on the WEN GN5602X
In summary, the WEN GN5602X is a portable generator especially useful for:
- RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
- Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
In the sections ahead, the power characteristics, availability of various outlets, the portability, and any additional features of the device shall be discussed, including its emission compliance information.
Power & Run Time
The WEN GN5602X houses a 224 cc OHV 4-stroke engine, which provides 120V, consumes gasoline and delivers a running wattage of 4,500W along with a peak wattage of 5,600W.
This generator can be started via a conventional pull-start mechanism, or a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included).
The fuel capacity of 4.36 gallons allows the GN5602X to operate for around 12.5 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.35 GPH).
Outlets
The control panel features the upcoming 4 AC outlets:
This WEN generator is RV Ready, thanks to its TT-30R receptacle (TT stands for 'Travel Trailer').
Portability
The WEN GN5602X has a conventional, open frame design, of the following dimensions: L22.8 x W23.6 x H23 in, which offers support and allows it to be raised above ground level. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.
As the generator's weight is 111.3 pounds, manually moving it or transporting it may be challenging, despite the fact that it is technically considered 'portable' (movable). However, its challenging mobility is solved by its wheel kit and its folding handle, which will ease its displacement, once it is on the floor.
Features
To help you monitor the GN5602X's status and activity, its control panel is equipped with a convenient meter, which displays voltage, frequency and lifetime hours.
In addition to this info, the device’s light indicator will display if its oil levels are insufficient.
Thanks to a built-in fuel gauge, the generator allows you to quickly, conveniently and easily check the gas level at a glance.
From a security standpoint, the product offers an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.
The unit also benefits from WEN's CO Watchdog carbon monoxide detection. This system measures the accumulation of poisonous CO gas while the generator is running. If the level of CO gas gets too high, the CO Watchdog system will automatically shut down the generator.
With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the WEN GN5602X also comes with several accessories, including: tool kit and funnel. An official storage cover is also available, as a separate purchase.
Emissions
The WEN GN5602X is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Thus, selling and purchasing this generator is allowed in each of the 50 states, including California.
Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, which makes it suitable for use in forested areas.
The WEN GN5602X versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the WEN GN5602X compare to generators of similar power (between 4000 and 5000 W).
- As for its weight, the WEN GN5602X weighs only 111.3 pounds, making it one of the lighter generators in the 4000-5000 rated wattage category. In terms of weight, one of the champions in their power range is the WEN 56477i, standing at just 72.7 lbs.
- The GN5602X provides a higher run time than similarly powerful devices, reaching around 12.5 hours at 50% load. If autonomy is your priority, one of the devices of a similar power output with the highest run time is the Dewalt DXGN4500, reaching around 15 hours.
- Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. This generator, with an estimated fuel consumption of just 0.35 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load, is one of the more fuel efficient generators, for the previously mentioned wattage range. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the WEN 56477i. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.27 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.
Price comparison
As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 4000-5000W generators, the WEN GN5602X is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.
The bottom line
- Inexpensive
- CO Watchdog
- Several accessories included
- RV Ready
- Electric start
- Lightweight for its kind (111.3 lbs)
- High run time

Great Investment On A Wonderful Product
This last storm system Michigan had, I had the chance to use it for about 24 hours. I powered a standard fridge on bottom and freezer on top. A 65 inch tv with a Chromecast. Charged my iPad. Had 2 hue lights on. I powered a Nighthawk router along with a cable modem. My Hue bridge, smart garage door gateway, and my printer, 2 smartphones and a medium size fan. I love the electric start feature. After all that, this thing could still handle more. I only used about 8 gallons or 2 tanks in 24 hours.
