The subsequent sections will explore in detail its power characteristics, the diverse outlets it provides, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it offers.
Power & Run Time
The WEN GN4500 houses a 212 cc OHV 4-stroke engine, which provides 120V, consumes gasoline and delivers a running wattage of 3,600W along with a peak wattage of 4,500W.
Operating at a noise rating of 65 dBA (just slightly more noisy than an office), this generator starts up with a classic hand-operated recoil starting mechanism.
The GN4500's fuel tank, with a capacity of 4 gallons, supports uninterrupted operation for around 13 hours at 50% load when fully fueled (fuel consumption at an estimated 0.31 gallons per hour).
Outlets
The control panel provides the upcoming 6 AC outlets:
Thanks to its TT-30R receptacle (TT meaning 'Travel Trailer'), this WEN generator is RV Ready, ready to power your recreational vehicle with ease.
Portability
Measuring L23.3 x W18 x H18.8 in, the WEN GN4500 showcases a classic open frame layout, guaranteeing stability and simple maintenance access to components, while facilitating air circulation. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.
With a dry weight of 97.9 lbs, the GN4500 is convenient, ensuring it can be taken wherever power is needed. Moreover, the open frame structure of this generator makes it easy to grab and relocate.
Features
The GN4500 and its control panel include a convenient meter, showing voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours metrics. This feature comes handy when monitoring its status and activity.
A built-in fuel gauge allows for a quick, easy and convenient check of the fuel level of the generator.
From a security standpoint, the generator is furnished with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), ensuring peace of mind during operation.
Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the WEN GN4500 is bundled with additional accessories: tool kit and oil.
The WEN GN4500 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the WEN GN4500 compare to generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- Regarding its weight, the WEN GN4500 only weighs in at 97.9 pounds, which means it's one of the lighter generators in the 3500-4500 rated wattage range. Weight-conscious users may find the Genmax GM4600iAEFIC appealing, as it is one of the top contenders in this power range, weighing just 58.4 pounds.
- With noise emissions rated as low as 65 dBA, this generator falls within the typical noise range expected for devices of similar power. For those who are looking for a less noisy device, we suggest the Westinghouse iGen5000DF. With just 52 dBA, it is one of the most quiet devices in this power range.
- In terms of run time, the GN4500 surpasses similarly powerful devices, boasting one of the higher run times at around 13 hours. If runtime is a priority for you, the Predator 4375 stands out as one of the generators with the longest run time in its power range, providing around 16 hours of continuous use.
- Run time is crucial, but it heavily relies on the fuel tank's capacity. Thus, considering fuel efficiency alongside is essential. This generator provides better fuel efficiency than most others in its wattage range, consuming approximately 0.31 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.23 GPH, the Westinghouse iGen5000DF is a device you could look out for.
The bottom line
- Several accessories included
- RV Ready
- Lightweight for its kind (97.9 lbs)
- High run time
- Fuel efficient
- Acceptable noise (65 dBA)
- No electric start

User Reviews
I essentially agree with you on strengths and weaknesses, at least for the plus/minus 4 hours it ran. It starts and runs and it appears there is at least power for charging the RV batteries, but nothing AC works at all. Hopefully, it’s not a serious problem.
