Description
Zoom on the WEN DF875iX
In a nutshell, the WEN DF875iX is a powerful portable inverter generator mostly geared towards:
- Food truck owners who do not wish to see their business interrupted under any circumstances
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
- RV travellers looking for even more independence
In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.
Power & Run Time
Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the WEN DF875iX provides a 120/240V output and offers both versatility and power. When utilizing gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 7,000W and a starting wattage of 8,750W. Alternatively, when operating on propane, it provides 6,300 running watts and 7,800 starting watts.
This inverter generator can be started using either a conventional pull-start mechanism or a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). Additionally, the DF875iX may be remotely started, enhancing user convenience (key fob included).
Regarding its running time, the DF875iX, with a 4.2 gallons fuel capacity, can operate for around 6.7 hours at 50% load with a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.63 GPH). When using propane, it can run for around 5.5 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.85 GPH).
With a <1.5% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the DF875iX delivers a clean sine wave—essential for safeguarding your delicate electronics when plugged into its AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 6 AC outlets:
Furthermore, it showcases 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) ensuring convenient charging of devices like mobile phones and tablets, for connectivity on the go.
With its TT-30R receptacle (TT standing for 'Travel Trailer'), this WEN generator is RV Ready, perfectly suited for powering recreational vehicles. In addition, as it features a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the DF875iX is transfer switch ready: in case of a power outage, you will be easily able to connect it to a breaker box and power your household.
Portability
With dimensions of L26.8 x W26.4 x H23.2 in, the standard open frame design of the WEN DF875iX provides stability and easy maintenance access to components, as well as good air circulation. The design is ideal for rough environments and demanding outdoor use.
While technically classified as 'portable' due to its ability to be moved, the 140 lbs of this generator make manual lifting and transportation incredibly difficult. However, its challenging mobility is solved by its set of wheels and its folding handle, which will ease its displacement, once it is on the floor.
Features
The control panel of the DF875iX includes a convenient meter, providing voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours data, helpful for the monitoring of its status and activity.
In addition to this info, light indicators on the device will signal if the generator is on overload, the generator is ready and its oil levels are insufficient.
The inclusion of a built-in fuel gauge in the inverter generator streamlines gas level checks for quick and convenient assessments.
Considering security aspects, the generator boasts an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), offering peace of mind throughout operation.
The unit also benefits from WEN's CO Watchdog carbon monoxide detection. This system measures the accumulation of poisonous CO gas while the generator is running. If the level of CO gas gets too high, the CO Watchdog system will automatically shut down the generator.
Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the WEN DF875iX also is packed along with the following accessories: 2 altitude kits, funnel, tool kit, key fob and propane hose. An official storage cover is also available, as a separate purchase.

The WEN DF875iX versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the WEN DF875iX compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 6500 and 7500 W).
- Concerning weight, the WEN DF875iX weighs only just 140 pounds, distinguishing itself as one of the lighter dual fuel generators amidst the 6500 to 7500 rated wattage range. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Sportsman GEN85KIDF, with a dry weight of only 133 lbs.
- Concerning its runtime, the DF875iX provides around 6.7 hours at a 50% load, indicating that it falls on the lower side compared to other generators of its type and power range. If autonomy is your priority, one of the devices of a similar power output with the highest run time is the Firman H07553, reaching around 12 hours.
- While the run time is an important parameter, it is dependent on the fuel tank's capacity and thus, doesn't say much on its own unless we consider fuel consumption as well. This inverter generator has an average fuel consumption among comparably powerful devices, as it reaches 0.63 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 50% load. If you wish to acquire one of the most gasoline efficient products of this power range, the Ford FG7750BiSRCO, with a fuel consumption of 0.5 GPH could be in your good books.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 6500-7500W dual fuel inverter generators, the WEN DF875iX is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.

User Reviews
After the fiasco and awful quality control I experienced with Sportsman’s top of the line inverter generator arriving damaged and missing critical parts that make it run I am very happy with WEN. The WEN arrived very well packaged, a lot of thought was put into how to brace it and protect if from shipping damage. It actually had plywood on the top of the generator to protect the tank and frame from damage. The best part though is unlike Sportsman, WEN has excellent quality control, it fired right up and ran like a champ. I’ve only got 5 hours on it, but very happy with it and would recommend it. By the way I ran it for 5 hours in econ mode on a 20lb propane bottle that was 3/4 empty. So run times can be longer than advertised. I’ve owned 4 prior generators, all open frame non-inverter. This WEN is open frame inverter and it’s noise level is half that of any of my prior generators. I chose the WEN over the similar versions by Champion and Westinghouse because of the remote start and superior product support. Go to WEN’s web site and you will find they actually sell parts for their products, good luck finding parts for the other brands. Also these other brands may appear to have longer run times, but they are advertising their long run times at 25% load where WEN’s run time is based on a 50% load, so don’t be fooled. All three have approximately the same size fuel tank and same size Chonda engine, so run times are going to be dang near equal.
