In short, the WEN DF875iX is a powerful portable inverter generator adequately designed for:
- Food van owners who know that just a short power outage could lose them hundreds of dollars
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
- Camping and tailgating buffs looking to enhance their experience
- RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.
Power & Run Time
Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the WEN DF875iX delivers 120/240V and offers power and versatility. When gasoline-powered, it benefits from a running wattage of 7,000W and a peak wattage of 8,750W. When propane-powered, it has 6,300 rated watts and 7,800 peak watts.
This inverter generator can be started thanks to a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism, but also to a hassle-free and practical electric starter (battery included). For additional convenience, the DF875iX may also be remotely started (key fob included).
The running time of the DF875iX, with its 4.2 gallons fuel capacity, can reach around 6.7 hours at 50% load on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.63 GPH). With propane, it can reach around 5.5 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.85 GPH).
Sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets, as the DF875iX produces a clean sine wave, with a <1.5% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 6 AC outlets:
Additionally, it offers 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) with which charging of electronics like mobile phones and tablets is made convenient.
With its TT-30R receptacle (TT as in 'Travel Trailer'), this WEN generator is RV Ready. In addition, since it boasts a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the DF875iX is engineered to be transfer switch ready, ensuring easy integration with your breaker box to provide backup power to your home during outages.
Portability
Measuring L26.8 x W26.4 x H23.2 in, the WEN DF875iX showcases a classic open frame layout, guaranteeing stability and simple maintenance access to components, while facilitating air circulation. The design is ideal for rough environments and demanding outdoor use.
Despite its weight of 140 lbs, the generator is considered 'portable,' signifying its capability to be moved, albeit its heaviness may hinder easy transport. Despite the restricted maneuverability, its set of wheels and its folding handle provides a solution, allowing for convenient shifting once the generator is positioned on the ground.
Features
The control panel of the DF875iX includes a convenient meter, showing voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours metrics, helpful for the monitoring of its status and activity.
In addition to this info, when the generator is overloaded, its oil levels are insufficient and the generator is ready, you will be informed by the featured light indicators.
The inclusion of a built-in fuel gauge in the inverter generator streamlines gas level checks for quick and convenient assessments.
Regarding security, the generator comes with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), providing peace of mind during operation.
The unit also benefits from WEN's CO Watchdog carbon monoxide detection. This system measures the accumulation of poisonous CO gas while the generator is running. If the level of CO gas gets too high, the CO Watchdog system will automatically shut down the generator.
Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the WEN DF875iX also is packed along with the following accessories: 2 altitude kits, propane hose, key fob, funnel and tool kit. An official storage cover is also available, as a separate purchase.

The WEN DF875iX versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the WEN DF875iX compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 6500 and 7500 W).
- As for its weight, the WEN DF875iX weighs only 140 pounds, making it one of the lighter dual fuel generators in the 6500-7500 rated wattage category. If weight is a key factor for your needs, the Sportsman GEN85KIDF is noteworthy for being one of the top contenders in this power range, with a dry weight of 133 pounds.
- The DF875iX's autonomy is somewhat low end compared to devices of its type and power range, as it reaches only around 6.7 hours at 50% load on a full tank. For those prioritizing autonomy, the Firman H07553 could be considered, as it offers one of the longest run times among generators with similar power output, reaching around 12 hours.
- Though run time is a significant parameter, it's closely tied to the generator's fuel tank size. To get a comprehensive understanding, fuel efficiency must also be taken into account. This inverter generator is one of the more fuel-efficient options in its power range, consuming approximately 0.63 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load. To prioritize fuel savings, we advise considering the DuroMax XP7500DX, which stands out for its gasoline efficiency, consuming just 0.53 gallons per hour.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 6500-7500W inverter generators, the WEN DF875iX is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

User Reviews
After the fiasco and awful quality control I experienced with Sportsman’s top of the line inverter generator arriving damaged and missing critical parts that make it run I am very happy with WEN. The WEN arrived very well packaged, a lot of thought was put into how to brace it and protect if from shipping damage. It actually had plywood on the top of the generator to protect the tank and frame from damage. The best part though is unlike Sportsman, WEN has excellent quality control, it fired right up and ran like a champ. I’ve only got 5 hours on it, but very happy with it and would recommend it. By the way I ran it for 5 hours in econ mode on a 20lb propane bottle that was 3/4 empty. So run times can be longer than advertised. I’ve owned 4 prior generators, all open frame non-inverter. This WEN is open frame inverter and it’s noise level is half that of any of my prior generators. I chose the WEN over the similar versions by Champion and Westinghouse because of the remote start and superior product support. Go to WEN’s web site and you will find they actually sell parts for their products, good luck finding parts for the other brands. Also these other brands may appear to have longer run times, but they are advertising their long run times at 25% load where WEN’s run time is based on a 50% load, so don’t be fooled. All three have approximately the same size fuel tank and same size Chonda engine, so run times are going to be dang near equal.
