Description
Zoom on the WEN DF875iX
In a few words, the WEN DF875iX is a powerful portable inverter generator perfectly suited for:
- Food truck owners who want to ensure that their business is fully self-contained and does not rely on potentially unreliable external power
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
Over the following sections, you'll uncover its power characteristics, the selection of outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it includes.
Power & Run Time
Delivering 120/240V, the WEN DF875iX is enhanced by dual-fuel technology, providing power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it boasts a running wattage of 7,000W and a starting wattage of 8,750W. Alternatively, when propane-powered, it delivers 6,300 running watts and 7,800 starting watts.
This inverter generator can be started thanks to a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism, but also to a practical and straightforward electric starter (battery included). Additionally, the DF875iX may be remotely started, enhancing user convenience (key fob included).
Regarding its running time, the DF875iX, with a 4.2 gallons fuel capacity, can operate for around 6.7 hours at 50% load with a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.63 GPH). When using propane, it can run for around 5.5 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.85 GPH).
The DF875iX generates a clean sine wave: providing <1.5% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), delicate electronics can be plugged in its AC outlets safely.
Outlets
The control panel is equipped with the following 6 AC outlets:
Additionally, it features 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) providing convenient charging capabilities for mobile phones, tablets, and other electronic devices.
Equipped with a TT-30R receptacle (TT representing 'Travel Trailer'), this WEN generator is RV Ready, ensuring compatibility with recreational vehicles. In addition, because the DF875iX is equipped with a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: it can power your home during a power outage, as it can be easily connected to your breaker box to power your household.
Portability
At L26.8 x W26.4 x H23.2 in, the WEN DF875iX boasts a traditional open frame structure, ensuring stability and allowing for convenient maintenance access to components, promoting air circulation. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.
Although this generator is technically considered 'portable' (in the sense that it can be moved), its 140 lbs make may make it challenging to manually lift and transport. However, the lack of maneuverability can be offset with its set of wheels and its folding handle, which allows for convenient shifting once the generator is placed on the ground.
Features
The DF875iX's status and activity may be monitored conveniently via the control panel, as it features a convenient meter, displaying voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours information.
In addition to this info, light indicators on the device will notify you if its oil levels are insufficient, the generator is ready and the generator is overloaded.
Featuring a built-in fuel gauge, the inverter generator offers quick, convenient, and easy gas level checks at a glance.
From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), giving you a peace of mind during use.
The unit also benefits from WEN's CO Watchdog carbon monoxide detection. This system measures the accumulation of poisonous CO gas while the generator is running. If the level of CO gas gets too high, the CO Watchdog system will automatically shut down the generator.
Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the WEN DF875iX is bundled with additional accessories: propane hose, funnel, key fob, tool kit and 2 altitude kits. An official storage cover is also available, as a separate purchase.

The WEN DF875iX versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the WEN DF875iX compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 6500 and 7500 W).
- In terms of its weight, the WEN DF875iX weighs merely 140 pounds, earning it a spot among the lighter dual fuel generators within the 6500 to 7500 rated wattage category. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Sportsman GEN85KIDF, with a dry weight of only 133 lbs.
- Regarding its autonomy, the DF875iX can run for around 6.7 hours at a 50% load, aligning it with the lower performers in its type and power range. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the Firman H07553, with around 12 hours.
- Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. This inverter generator has an average fuel consumption among comparably powerful devices, as it reaches 0.63 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 50% load. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Ford FG7750BiSRCO, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.5 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 6500-7500W dual fuel inverter generators, the WEN DF875iX is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.

User Reviews
After the fiasco and awful quality control I experienced with Sportsman’s top of the line inverter generator arriving damaged and missing critical parts that make it run I am very happy with WEN. The WEN arrived very well packaged, a lot of thought was put into how to brace it and protect if from shipping damage. It actually had plywood on the top of the generator to protect the tank and frame from damage. The best part though is unlike Sportsman, WEN has excellent quality control, it fired right up and ran like a champ. I’ve only got 5 hours on it, but very happy with it and would recommend it. By the way I ran it for 5 hours in econ mode on a 20lb propane bottle that was 3/4 empty. So run times can be longer than advertised. I’ve owned 4 prior generators, all open frame non-inverter. This WEN is open frame inverter and it’s noise level is half that of any of my prior generators. I chose the WEN over the similar versions by Champion and Westinghouse because of the remote start and superior product support. Go to WEN’s web site and you will find they actually sell parts for their products, good luck finding parts for the other brands. Also these other brands may appear to have longer run times, but they are advertising their long run times at 25% load where WEN’s run time is based on a 50% load, so don’t be fooled. All three have approximately the same size fuel tank and same size Chonda engine, so run times are going to be dang near equal.
