In summary, the WEN DF680iX is a compact portable inverter generator especially useful for:
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
- Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
- Food truck owners who want to ensure that their business is fully self-contained and does not rely on potentially unreliable external power
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
Over the following sections, you'll uncover its power characteristics, the selection of outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it includes.
Power & Run Time
With its dual-fuel technology, the powerful and versatile WEN DF680iX provides an output of 120/240V. While gasoline-powered, it gives a running wattage of 5,100W along with a peak wattage of 6,800W. While propane-powered, it provides 4,500 rated watts and 6,000 starting watts. In addition, the device is parallel capable (parallel kit not included) and thus, can be linked to a similar or compatible unit for added power.
WEN’s Auto Fuel Selection technology automatically selects the fuel source (LPG or gasoline) depending on availability and prioritizes LPG. Thus, if a propane tank with enough LPG is connected, the generator will automatically use LPG. If no propane tank is connected, or if there is not enough LPG remaining in the tank, the generator will use gasoline.
Enjoying a noise rating of 64 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a normal conversation), this inverter generator can be started thanks to a classic hand-operated recoil starting mechanism, but also to a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included).
Concerning its running time, the DF680iX, featuring a 2.9 gallons fuel tank, can continuously run for around 6.1 hours at 50% load with a full gasoline tank (consuming fuel at approximately 0.48 gallons per hour). Alternatively, when utilizing propane, it offers around 9 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.52 GPH) of runtime.
Delicate electronics can be plugged in the AC outlets safely, as the DF680iX generates a clean sine wave, reaching a <1.2% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 4 AC outlets:
Additionally, it offers 3 DC outlets: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle making battery charging a breeze and two 5V USB ports (USB-A) providing convenient charging capabilities for mobile phones, tablets, and other electronic devices.
Thanks to its TT-30R receptacle (TT stands for 'Travel Trailer'), this WEN generator is RV Ready. In addition, as it features a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the DF680iX is transfer switch ready: in case of a power outage, you will be easily able to connect it to a breaker box and power your household.
Portability
With its enclosed inverter generator design (L22.8 x W16.6 x H19.7 in), the WEN DF680iX offers superior aesthetics and operates with minimized noise levels, distinguishing itself from standard, open frame generators. The design follows the contemporary trends and is perfect for recreationally generating power.
With a dry weight of 94.8 lbs, the DF680iX is convenient, ensuring it can be taken wherever power is needed. In addition, with its set of 2 wheels and its telescopic handle, it may be shifted with ease, once placed on the floor.
Features
A digital data center, one of the features of the DF680iX's control panel, gives you information on the power output, voltage, lifetime run hours, frequency and fuel level, and thus, is helpful for the monitoring of its activity and status.
In addition to this info, the light indicators show you if the generator is ready, its oil levels are insufficient and the generator is overloaded.
The fuel shutoff feature turns off the flow of fuel, allowing for the DF680iX to use up the remaining fuel from the carburetor before automatically shutting down. This helps fight the build-up and blockages caused by stagnant fuel inside the carburetor, minimizing maintenance while prolonging the unit’s lifespan.
As for its security measures, the device features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, letting you use it with a peace of mind.
The unit also benefits from WEN's CO Watchdog carbon monoxide detection. This system measures the accumulation of poisonous CO gas while the generator is running. If the level of CO gas gets too high, the CO Watchdog system will automatically shut down the generator.
In addition to the traditional documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to help you get started promptly, the WEN DF680iX also includes several accessories: oil, tool kit, funnel and propane hose.

The WEN DF680iX versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the WEN DF680iX compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 4500 and 5500 W).
- When it comes to weight, the WEN DF680iX tips the scales at just 94.8 pounds, making it one of the lighter inverter generators in the 4500 to 5500 rated wattage range. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Pulsar PGX60BiSRCO, with a dry weight of only 93.5 lbs.
- At 64 dBA, this inverter generator's noise rating is in line with the expected average for devices within its type and power category. If you value reduced noise levels, the Honda EU7000iS could be worth considering. It's one of the quietest generators in its power range, rated at 52 dBA.
- The DF680iX's autonomy is somewhat low end compared to devices of its type and power range, as it reaches only around 6.1 hours at 50% load on a full tank. If autonomy is your priority, one of the devices of a similar power output with the highest run time is the Briggs & Stratton Q6500 QuietPower, reaching around 10 hours.
- Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel tank capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary for a complete understanding. This inverter generator is not fuel-efficient compared to devices of similar output: its estimated fuel consumption stands at 0.48 GPH at a 50% load. If gasoline efficiency is at the top of your list, you may want to have a look at the DuroMax XP7000iHT, which has great fuel efficiency, with a gas consumption of only 0.38 gallons per hour.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 4500-5500W dual fuel inverter generators, the WEN DF680iX is on the cheap side of the price range.

User Reviews
I purchased this unit as I wanted it to power my camper when I am dry camping / boondocking and to power my home in the event of any power outages.
Package was shipped and arrived with all of its parts and nothing was damaged!!! yay!!!
I poured in the supplied Oil and connected the battery. Simple. Added some gasoline and it started on the first pull.
I ran it for the first 4 hours on varying loads / speeds then changed the oil. No large amounts of metal in the oil.
I completed an oil change and put in Mobile 1 – 5W-30 Fully synthetic.
I ran it for the second 4 hours on varying loads / speeds then changed the oil. No large amounts of metal in the oil.
I completed the second oil change with Mobile 1 – 5W-30 fully Synthetic and did not notice and strange amounts of metal in the oil as some customers had reported after completing the Engine break in.
I ran several tests to see how well this unit performed.
I connected my Camper and ran the 13,500 BYU AC and via my WatchDog it was drawing about 12-13 amps of power. Generator handled the surge very well in both the economy mode and running full speed every time the AC cycled on and off.
I then connected the Generator up to my house and flipped the 120/240 switch on the generator.
In my house I turned off the breaker for my electric stove, Electric hot water tank, Air conditioning and some small Electric heat we have in our porch. I was running every light and electronic in the house and was only drawing about 8-10 amps on each Leg of the 240 feed. Knowing that in the summer My who house Ac draws about 12 amps of power I will need to turn off some items in my house so there would be enough room for the AC to run.
Price is the biggest advantage of this unit. I was looking at the pulsar 7K unit but did not like the $1200.00 price tag. This WEN DF680iX price tag is the steal of the century.
I just purchased this WEN- DF680iX, Inverter Generator and it was delivered today 5.8.2025.. I must say, its very nice and looks to be of good quality for the price range. I started it up and seems to be working perfect and easy to use and unbox. I will update as I get more hours on this unit. Great Generator, cant go wrong with this little beast and I purchased it from Home Depot. Also, the packaging is amazing, no shipping issues at all.
