In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.
Power & Run Time
Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the WEN DF623X provides a 120/240V output and offers both versatility and power. When utilizing gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 5,000W and a starting wattage of 6,250W. Alternatively, when operating on propane, it provides 4,500 running watts and 5,625 starting watts.
Featuring a conventional pull-start mechanism and a straightforward and intuitive electric starter (battery included), this generator offers flexibility in starting.
Regarding its running time, the DF623X, with a 2.9 gallons fuel tank, can operate for around 6 hours at 50% load with a full gasoline tank (with fuel consumption estimated at around 0.48 gallons per hour). It also offers around 9.3 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.51 GPH) of operation when using propane.
The quite high THD (<20%) of the DF623X makes it unsuitable for powering sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
The control panel features the following 4 AC outlets:
Additionally, it features 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 10A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle providing easy battery charging capabilities.
Equipped with a TT-30R receptacle (TT representing 'Travel Trailer'), this WEN generator is RV Ready, ensuring compatibility with recreational vehicles. In addition, with its twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the DF623X is configured to be transfer switch ready, allowing straightforward connection to your breaker box to supply backup power to your home during outages.
Portability
At L26.1 x W23.4 x H22.1 in, the traditional open frame structure of the WEN DF623X ensures stability while facilitating convenient maintenance access to components and promoting air cooling. The generator is designed for ideal use outdoors and in rough environments.
While the generator is considered to be technically 'portable' (in the sense that you can move it), manually lifting and transporting it may be challenging, due to its high weight of 132 lbs. Nevertheless, it can still be moved quite conveniently with the help of its wheel kit and its folding handle, once it is placed on the ground.
Features
For convenient monitoring of its status and activity, the control panel of the DF623X includes a convenient meter, providing voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours data.
Benefiting from its built-in fuel gauge, the generator allows for easy and immediate gas level inspections.
From a security standpoint, the generator is furnished with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, ensuring peace of mind during operation.
The unit also benefits from WEN's CO Watchdog carbon monoxide detection. This system measures the accumulation of poisonous CO gas while the generator is running. If the level of CO gas gets too high, the CO Watchdog system will automatically shut down the generator.
With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the WEN DF623X also comes with several accessories, including: propane hose, funnel, oil and tool kit. An official storage cover is also available, as a separate purchase.
The WEN DF623X versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the WEN DF623X compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 4500 and 5500 W).
- With a dry weight of 132 lbs, the WEN DF623X falls within the expected weight range for dual fuel generators in the 4500 to 5500 rated wattage. If weight is a key factor for your needs, the Pulsar PGX60BiSRCO is noteworthy for being one of the top contenders in this power range, with a dry weight of 93.5 pounds.
- Concerning its runtime, the DF623X provides around 6 hours at a 50% load, indicating that it falls on the lower side compared to other generators of its type and power range. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the WEN DF5600X, with around 12.5 hours.
- While run time is vital, it hinges on the fuel capacity. To grasp the full picture, we must also factor in fuel efficiency. When operating at 50% load, the generator's fuel consumption is estimated at 0.48 GPH, placing it within the average range of gasoline usage among similarly powerful devices. If you wish to further improve in the area of fuel efficiency, the WEN DF5600X, which boasts with a gas consumption of only 0.35 GPH, may be the right generator for you.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 4500-5500W dual fuel generators, the WEN DF623X is on the average side of the price range.

User Reviews
I bought a WEN DF4750 6 years ago and it has served me well. After Hurricane Helene, I decided to buy a second generator and upgraded to a DF623x. The quality control on this unit was awful. The propane regulator was defective, one of the wheel welds snapped leaving me with only one working wheel and the voltage regulator switch was missing. WEN has been very good about sending out replacement parts, and the unit runs well now, but these types of problems should have been caught and remedied at the factory. The other big problem with WEN lies in their lack of authorized factory repair facilities. In Western North Carolina, there are none.
This is my last WEN product.
