Description
Zoom on the WEN DF475T
In summary, the WEN DF475T is a compact portable generator especially useful for:
- RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
- Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
- Professionals in need of safely powering high-intensity work or lighting equipment
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device.
Power & Run Time
The dual-fuel technology of the WEN DF475T allows for an output of 120/240V and provides superb power and versatility. If gasoline-powered, the device provides a running wattage of 3,800W and a starting wattage of 4,750W. If propane-powered, it gives 3,500 rated watts and 4,350 starting watts.
With a noise rating of 69 dBA (less noisy than background music), the generator features a standard recoil pull-rope starting mechanism, but also a user-friendly and hassle-free electric starter (battery included).
The running time of the DF475T, with its 4 gallons fuel capacity, can reach around 11 hours at 50% load on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.36 GPH). With propane, it can reach around 7 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.67 GPH).
Outlets
The control panel features 3 AC outlets as follows:
It also sports 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle with which you may charge your batteries with ease.
Due to the featured twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the DF475T is transfer switch ready: you may connect it to a breaker box to power your household during a power outage.
Portability
Measuring L23.2 x W17.5 x H18.5 in, the classic open frame construction of the WEN DF475T provides stability while enabling convenient maintenance access to components and adequate air cooling. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.
While the generator is considered to be technically 'portable' (in the sense that you can move it), manually lifting and transporting it may be challenging, due to its high weight of 105.8 lbs. Nevertheless, it can still be moved quite conveniently with the help of its wheel kit and its folding handle, once it is placed on the ground.
Features
A built-in fuel gauge allows for a quick, easy and convenient check of the fuel level of the generator.
As for its security measures, the device features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), letting you use it with a peace of mind.
Apart from the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to facilitate setup, the WEN DF475T features extra accessories: propane hose and oil. An official storage cover is also available, as a separate purchase.

The WEN DF475T versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the WEN DF475T compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- Weighing in at 105.8 lbs, the WEN DF475T fits within the expected weight range for dual fuel devices producing 3500 to 4500 rated watts. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the Pulsar PGX5250BiXCO with only 64 pounds.
- Since the generator's noise is rated at 69 dBA, it has the roughly average expected noise for a device of similar type and power. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may be interested in the Westinghouse iGen5000DF, one of the least noisy generators similarly powerful as this one, rated for 52 dBA.
- The DF475T, offering a run time of around 11 hours with a full tank at a 50% load, falls within the average autonomy range when compared to its peers. If runtime is a priority for you, the Westinghouse iGen5000DF stands out as one of the generators with the longest run time in its power range, providing around 15 hours of continuous use.
- While the run time is an important parameter, it is dependent on the fuel tank's capacity and thus, doesn't say much on its own unless we consider fuel consumption as well. This generator reaches an estimated fuel consumption of 0.36 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 50% load, making it average, for the previously mentioned wattage range. If gasoline efficiency is at the top of your list, you may want to have a look at the Westinghouse iGen5000DF, which has great fuel efficiency, with a gas consumption of only 0.23 gallons per hour.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3500-4500W dual fuel generators, the WEN DF475T is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.

User Reviews
The WEN 4750W I have is in general a very nice generator with a couple of really strange quirks and one of these may be the reason it shuts off after running for a while. I found that the generator will not run longer than about half an hour if the gas cap is tight. I can see the gas tank flexing in as a vacuum if forming if the gas cap is tight. When I release the gas cap the tank flexes back to normal and it will run. It runs until empty if the gas cap is loose. I’ve never see this issue with any other piece of equipment. Apparently there is no air getting in the gas tank if the cap is tight. The other issue I am having is that the battery will not charge. This has been a problem since it was new. So, my electric start is useless. Yes I’ve checked all the wiring, etc.
