Description
Zoom on the WEN DF452iX
In a nutshell, the WEN DF452iX is a quiet and compact portable inverter generator mostly geared towards:
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
- People occasionally participating in outdoor fairs, festivals or events
- DIYers who wish to improve their efficiency with tools
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device.
Power & Run Time
Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the WEN DF452iX delivers 120V and offers power and versatility. When gasoline-powered, it benefits from a running wattage of 3,500W and a peak wattage of 4,500W. When propane-powered, it has 3,150 rated watts and 4,500 peak watts. Furthermore, the parallel capability (parallel kit not included) offers the advantage of increasing power output when connected to another similar or compatible unit, delivering expanded energy capacity and flexibility for various applications.
WEN’s Auto Fuel Selection technology automatically selects the fuel source (LPG or gasoline) depending on availability and prioritizes LPG. Thus, if a propane tank with enough LPG is connected, the generator will automatically use LPG. If no propane tank is connected, or if there is not enough LPG remaining in the tank, the generator will use gasoline.
The inverter generator features a standard recoil pull-rope starting mechanism and also an intuitive and practical electric starter (battery included). It is rated for a noise of 58 dBA (less noisy than a refrigerator). Moreover, to offer you even more convenience, the DF452iX can also be remotely started (key fob included).
In terms of its run time capability, the DF452iX, furnished with a 2.2 gallons fuel tank, can maintain operations for around 8.5 hours at 50% load on a full tank of gasoline (with fuel consumption averaging 0.26 gallons per hour). It also provides around 9 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.52 GPH) of operation with propane.
Featuring a <1.2% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the DF452iX delivers a clean sine wave, guaranteeing the safety of your sensitive electronics plugged into its AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel features 3 AC outlets as follows:
Furthermore, it showcases 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle making battery charging a breeze. Since a dual port USB adapter is included with the unit, you will also be able to use the DC receptacle to conveniently charge electronics such as mobile phones and tablets.
Thanks to its TT-30R receptacle (TT meaning 'Travel Trailer'), this WEN generator is RV Ready, ready to power your recreational vehicle with ease.
Portability
The WEN DF452iX is an inverter generator and features an encased design with the following dimensions: L23.2 x W18 x H20.1 in. This design enhances aesthetics and helps minimize noise levels, distinguishing it from conventional, open frame products. The generator has a contemporary design, convenient for recreationally generating power.
With a weight of 100 lbs, the generator is still labeled as 'portable,' denoting its ability to be moved, although its heaviness might restrict easy portability. Despite the restricted maneuverability, its set of 2 wheels and its folding handle provides a solution, allowing for convenient shifting once the generator is positioned on the ground.
Features
For easy status and activity monitoring of the DF452iX, its control panel integrates a digital data center, offering insights into the voltage, lifetime run hours, frequency, fuel level and power output.
In addition to this info, the device’s light indicators will display if the generator is ready, the oil level is too low and the generator is overloaded.
The fuel shutoff feature turns off the flow of fuel, allowing for the DF452iX to use up the remaining fuel from the carburetor before automatically shutting down. This helps fight the build-up and blockages caused by stagnant fuel inside the carburetor, minimizing maintenance while prolonging the unit’s lifespan.
As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features a low fuel automatic shutdown, an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker).
The unit also benefits from WEN's CO Watchdog carbon monoxide detection. This system measures the accumulation of poisonous CO gas while the generator is running. If the level of CO gas gets too high, the CO Watchdog system will automatically shut down the generator.
With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the WEN DF452iX also comes with several accessories, including: dual port USB adapter, funnel, key fob, natural gas hose with NPT adapter and tool kit. An official storage cover is also available, as a separate purchase.

The WEN DF452iX versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the WEN DF452iX compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 3000 and 4000 W).
- At 100 lbs dry, the WEN DF452iX is consistent with the standard weight profile for inverters ranging from 3000 to 4000 rated watts. If weight is an important consideration for you, the Pulsar PGD40iSCO stands out as one of the top contenders in this power category, with a dry weight of 46 pounds.
- With a lowest possible noise of 58 dBA, this inverter generator places itself amongst the more quiet of the products delivering similar power. If you'd like a less noisy alternative, the Westinghouse iGen5000DF is a strong contender. It boasts a noise rating of 52 dBA, placing it among the quietest generators in its power category.
- With around 8.5 hours of runtime at a 50% load on a full tank, the DF452iX is in line with the average autonomy range for inverter generators of comparable power. For those prioritizing autonomy, the Westinghouse iGen5000DF could be considered, as it offers one of the longest run times among generators with similar power output, reaching around 15 hours.
- Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. With a fuel consumption rate around 0.26 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load, this inverter generator is one of the more fuel-efficient models within the aforementioned wattage range. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Pulsar PGD40iSCO, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.22 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.

User Reviews
IT JUST GETS BETTER!! I bought the next generation DF452ix. I am going to say ( though l am incorrect) the x is for extra. This improved model is the same as the DF452i but has electric start, remote electric start,Co2 monitoring as well as it is Gasoline & Propane powered. The fuel system is completely automatic as can intelligently switch fuel sources. If it senses Propane pressure it will use Propane first. Starting is either pull rope, push button electric or remote key fob. Both models are 4500W. The control panels (DF452i & DF452ix) have noticeable differences.
