Description
Zoom on the WEN DF452iX
In summary, the WEN DF452iX is a quiet and compact portable inverter generator especially useful for:
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
- People occasionally participating in outdoor fairs, festivals or events
- DIYers who wish to improve their efficiency with tools
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device.
Power & Run Time
With its dual-fuel technology, the powerful and versatile WEN DF452iX provides an output of 120V. While gasoline-powered, it gives a running wattage of 3,500W along with a peak wattage of 4,500W. While propane-powered, it provides 3,150 rated watts and 4,500 starting watts. In addition, as it is parallel capable (parallel kit not included), this power can be increased when linked to another similar or compatible unit.
WEN’s Auto Fuel Selection technology automatically selects the fuel source (LPG or gasoline) depending on availability and prioritizes LPG. Thus, if a propane tank with enough LPG is connected, the generator will automatically use LPG. If no propane tank is connected, or if there is not enough LPG remaining in the tank, the generator will use gasoline.
Featuring a noise rating of 58 dBA (less noisy than a conversation at home), the inverter generator is equipped with both a manual recoil starter system and a user-friendly and efficient electric starter (battery included) for starting. To add further convenience, the DF452iX can be remotely started (key fob included).
In terms of run time, the DF452iX, boasting a 2.2 gallons fuel tank, can run for around 8.5 hours at 50% load on a full tank of gasoline (with fuel consumption averaging 0.26 gallons per hour). Additionally, it provides around 9 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.52 GPH) of operation with propane.
With a <1.2% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the DF452iX delivers a clean sine wave—essential for safeguarding your delicate electronics when plugged into its AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel features the upcoming 3 AC outlets:
Additionally, it offers 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle enabling simple battery charging for added ease. With the unit, you will also find a dual port USB adapter, allowing for the convenient charging of electronics like mobile phones and tablets using the DC receptacle.
Featuring a TT-30R receptacle (TT for 'Travel Trailer'), this WEN generator is RV Ready, designed specifically for use with recreational vehicles.
Portability
Thanks to its closed inverter generator design (L23.2 x W18 x H20.1 in), the WEN DF452iX not only offers superior aesthetics but also operates with reduced noise levels compared to a typical, open frame generator. This modern design aims to provide an ideal power solution to recreational users.
Even at 100 lbs, the generator is categorized as 'portable,' suggesting its movability, although its weight impede its portability. Nevertheless, thanks to its set of 2 wheels and its folding handle (a decent solution to its lack of maneuverability), the generator can be easily moved, once placed the ground.
Features
Featuring a digital data center on its control panel, the DF452iX offers you convenient access to essential information about the frequency, power output, lifetime run hours, voltage and fuel level, facilitating effective monitoring of its activity and status.
In addition to this info, the light indicators show you if the oil level is too low, the generator is ready and the generator is on overload.
The fuel shutoff feature turns off the flow of fuel, allowing for the DF452iX to use up the remaining fuel from the carburetor before automatically shutting down. This helps fight the build-up and blockages caused by stagnant fuel inside the carburetor, minimizing maintenance while prolonging the unit’s lifespan.
Security-wise, this product benefits from an automatic low oil shut-off, an overload protection (circuit breaker) and a low fuel automatic shutdown, which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.
The unit also benefits from WEN's CO Watchdog carbon monoxide detection. This system measures the accumulation of poisonous CO gas while the generator is running. If the level of CO gas gets too high, the CO Watchdog system will automatically shut down the generator.
Beyond the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to assist with setup, the WEN DF452iX ships with supplementary accessories: funnel, key fob, dual port USB adapter, tool kit and natural gas hose with NPT adapter. An official storage cover is also available, as a separate purchase.
The WEN DF452iX versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the WEN DF452iX compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 3000 and 4000 W).
- As its weight is 100 pounds, the WEN DF452iX falls in the expected weight range of the inverters in the 3000-4000 rated wattage category. In terms of weight, one of the champions in their power range is the Pulsar PGD40iSCO, standing at just 46 lbs.
- With a lowest noise rating of 58 dBA, the inverter generator is one of the more quiet of the generators of similar type and power. If noise is a concern for you, you could consider the Westinghouse iGen4500DF, which is one of the least noisy generators in its power range, rated at 52 dBA.
- The DF452iX, falls within the average autonomy range compared to inverter generators of a roughly same power, with a run time of around 8.5 hours at a 50% load and a full tank. If runtime is a priority for you, the Westinghouse iGen4500DF stands out as one of the generators with the longest run time in its power range, providing around 15 hours of continuous use.
- While run time matters, it's heavily influenced by the fuel tank's capacity. Hence, it's important to consider fuel efficiency alongside. Among devices of similar power, this inverter generator has one of the better fuel efficiency, with consumption rates of around 0.26 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load. If you wish to acquire one of the most gasoline efficient products of this power range, the Pulsar PGD40iSCO, with a fuel consumption of 0.22 GPH could be in your good books.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3000-4000W dual fuel inverter generators, the WEN DF452iX is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.

User Reviews
IT JUST GETS BETTER!! I bought the next generation DF452ix. I am going to say ( though l am incorrect) the x is for extra. This improved model is the same as the DF452i but has electric start, remote electric start,Co2 monitoring as well as it is Gasoline & Propane powered. The fuel system is completely automatic as can intelligently switch fuel sources. If it senses Propane pressure it will use Propane first. Starting is either pull rope, push button electric or remote key fob. Both models are 4500W. The control panels (DF452i & DF452ix) have noticeable differences.
