Description
Zoom on the WEN DF1100T
In summary, the WEN DF1100T is a powerful portable generator especially useful for:
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
- RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.
Power & Run Time
With its dual-fuel technology, the powerful and versatile WEN DF1100T provides an output of 120/240V. While gasoline-powered, it gives a running wattage of 8,300W along with a peak wattage of 11,000W. While propane-powered, it provides 7,500 rated watts and 9,500 starting watts.
This generator can be started thanks to a simple traditional pull-start mechanism, but also to a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included).
The running time of the DF1100T, with its 6.6 gallons fuel capacity, can reach around 8.5 hours at 50% load on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.78 GPH). With propane, it can reach around 3 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 1.57 GPH).
The DF1100T is unsuitable for the powering of sensitive electronic devices due to its relatively high THD (<15%).
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 6 AC outlets:
It also sports 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A receptacle with which charging your batteries is made easy.
If you own an RV with a 50-amp service, you can consider this WEN unit as RV-ready, as it features a 14-50R outlet. Its L5-30R receptacle can also be used for a simple RV connection with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor.
Portability
With its dimensions of L27.3 x W20.6 x H21.9 in, the conventional, open frame design of the WEN DF1100T offers stability and allows the generator to be raised above ground level. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.
As the generator's weight is 213.8 pounds, manually moving it or transporting it may be challenging, despite the fact that it is technically considered 'portable' (movable). However, this lack of maneuverability is compensated by its wheel kit and its folding handle, with which you can conveniently shift it, once it's on the ground.
Features
The DF1100T's control center features a convenient meter, which displays voltage, frequency and lifetime hours to aid you with the monitoring of its status and activity.
The generator allows for a quick, easy and convenient assessment of its gas level, as it is equipped with a built-in fuel gauge.
As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker).
While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the WEN DF1100T, the following accessories are also included: oil and propane hose. An official storage cover is also available, as a separate purchase.
Emissions
The WEN DF1100T is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. It can therefore be sold and purchased in all 50 states, including California.
Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, making it usable in forested areas.

The WEN DF1100T versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the WEN DF1100T compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 7500 and 8500 W).
- Since the generator weighs in at a dry weight of 213.8 lbs, the WEN DF1100T belongs in the expected weight range for dual fuel devices which can produce between 7500 and 8500 rated watts. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Cummins Onan P9500df, with a dry weight of only 194 lbs.
- As far as autonomy is concerned, providing around 8.5 hours of runtime with a full tank at a 50% load, the DF1100T falls into the low end in comparison with other dual fuel devices of a comparable power output. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the Firman H07552, with around 12 hours.
- Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. This generator is somewhat less fuel efficient than devices of comparable output: its estimated fuel consumption reaches 0.78 GPH at a 50% load. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Pulsar PG10000B16, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.55 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
Price comparison
As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 7500-8500W dual fuel generators, the WEN DF1100T is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.
The bottom line
- Inexpensive
- Several accessories included
- GFCI Outlets
- Electric start
- Dual Fuel
- Decent weight (213.8 lbs)
- No remote start
- Relatively low run time
- Low fuel efficiency

Can i buy anything to reduce the noise level? (Asked September 04, 2020)
We do not recommend any sort of modification. However, you may consider an enclosure (such as a ZombieBox (opens in a new tab)).
What gauge wire do I need to connect to house panel 10 feet away? (Asked February 16, 2021)
Page 23 of the owner's manual (opens in a new tab) contains a wire gauge chart.
Does it charge its own battery or do I need to attach a battery maintainer? (Asked March 18, 2021)
The unit charges the battery while running.
Do you need the battery in generator in order to use the recoil starter cord. (Asked March 31, 2021)
When using gasoline to run the generator, the battery must be connected whether using electric or recoil start. When using LPG, battery does not need to be connected for recoil start.

User Reviews
High price, no actual warranty coverage, manufacturer claims the units carburetor is not a part of the machine. My WEN 11,000 Dual Fuel broke itself after 18 hours. They will not pay the $400 it cost to fix. If you need a generator please do yourself and your wallet a huge favor – buy anything other than a WEN generator. This company is running a warranty scam and its customer service staff does not tell the truth when there is a problem.
Have had it for 2 years now. It has gotten me through all my days with no power in the winters and summers here in CA. Have gotten better runtimes at the 4000ft elevation than they say I should get. Powers everything that I need other than my pellet stove. Kids are happy I can keep tv and internet up and running. Wife is happy fridge, freezer, and chest freezer all stay cold. In all it probably runs for bout 20 to 30 days a year with no power (PG&E SUCKS). Oil consumption is low.
Love it!
