Description
Zoom on the WEN 56235iX
The WEN 56235iX is the newer version of the popular 56235i. It's a quiet, compact and lightweight portable inverter generator mostly geared towards:
- Tailgating and campground aficionados with the desire of enjoying power anywhere they go
- DIYers who wish to improve their efficiency with tools
In the sections ahead, the power characteristics, availability of various outlets, the portability, and any additional features of the device shall be discussed.
Power & Run Time
The WEN 56235iX
With a 79 cc OHV 4-stroke engine, the WEN 56235iX operates on gasoline, providing 120V, with a running wattage of 1,900W and a starting wattage of 2,350W. Moreover, the parallel capability (WEN 56421 Parallel Connection Kit (opens in a new tab) not included) allows for doubling of power output when paired with another similar or compatible unit, providing increased energy capacity and reliability for diverse needs.
Enjoying a low noise rating of 51 dBA (just slightly more noisy than rainfall) which earned this unit its place in our list of the 10 quietest portable generators, it gets running thanks to a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism.
Thanks to its 1.1 gallon fuel tank, the 56235iX can run continuously for up to 10.5 hours on a full tank (with an average fuel consumption of approximately 0.1 GPH).
The <1.2% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of the 56235iX ensures a clean sine wave output, providing a secure power source for your sensitive electronics through its AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel provides the upcoming 2 AC outlets:
Additionally, it features 3 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) enabling convenient charging of devices like mobile phones and tablets and a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle with which you may charge your batteries with ease.
Portability
With its enclosed inverter generator design (L17.3 x W11.5 x H17.7 in), the WEN 56235iX offers superior aesthetics and operates with minimized noise levels, distinguishing itself from standard, open frame generators. This modern design aims to provide an ideal power solution to recreational users.
The 56235iX's weight, at just 39 lbs, makes it an ideal choice for those seeking a lightweight and portable generator. Thanks to its lightweight design, one person can easily move it around, ensuring power availability wherever you travel. With its handle (molded in the case), carrying it becomes a breeze, adding to its convenience.
Features
The 56235iX's control panel
Several light indicators serve to show you when the oil level is too low, the generator is on overload and the generator is ready.
Featuring a built-in fuel gauge, the inverter generator offers quick, convenient, and easy gas level checks at a glance.
The fuel shutoff feature turns off the flow of fuel, allowing for the 56235iX to use up the remaining fuel from the carburetor before automatically shutting down. This helps fight the build-up and blockages caused by stagnant fuel inside the carburetor, minimizing maintenance while prolonging the unit’s lifespan.
As far as security is concerned, the generator comes with a low fuel automatic shutdown, an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, providing peace of mind during use.
The unit also benefits from WEN's CO Watchdog carbon monoxide detection. This system measures the accumulation of poisonous CO gas while the generator is running. If the level of CO gas gets too high, the CO Watchdog system will automatically shut down the generator.
In addition to the traditional documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to help you get started promptly, the WEN 56235iX also includes several accessories: tool kit and funnel. An official storage cover is also available, as a separate purchase.
The WEN 56235iX versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the WEN 56235iX compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).
- In terms of its weight, the WEN 56235iX weighs merely 39 pounds, earning it a spot among the lighter inverter generators within the 1500 to 2500 rated wattage category. If weight is an important consideration for you, the Genmax GM2000i stands out as one of the top contenders in this power category, with a dry weight of 34.2 pounds.
- With a noise rating as low as 51 dBA, this inverter generator is among the quieter options available in its type and power range. If noise emissions are important to you, one of the least noisy generators of this power range is the Honda EU2200i with only 48 dBA.
- Offering up to 10.5 hours of running time on a full tank at 25% load, the 56235iX is within the average autonomy range of similarly powerful inverter generators. If run time is one of your main concerns, the DuroMax XP2300iH could be worth looking at. It boasts one of the highest run times among units of comparable power, lasting up to 13 hours.
- Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel tank capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary for a complete understanding. At an estimated fuel consumption of 0.1 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load, this inverter generator is a rather fuel-efficient one within its wattage category. If you wish to acquire one of the most gasoline efficient products of this power range, the DuroMax XP2300iH, with a fuel consumption of 0.08 GPH could be in your good books.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 1500-2500W inverter generators, the WEN 56235iX is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.
The bottom line
