Description
Zoom on the Ryobi RYi2322
In a few words, the Ryobi RYi2322 is a quiet, compact and lightweight portable inverter generator perfectly suited for:
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
- Amateur DIY lovers
The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.
Power & Run Time
The Ryobi RYi2322's core is the 80 cc OHV 4-stroke engine, which runs on gasoline. With an output of 120V, it provides a running wattage of 1,800W and a peak wattage of 2,300W. Moreover, the parallel capability (Ryobi parallel kit (opens in a new tab) not included) enables doubling of power output when paired with another similar or compatible unit, providing increased energy capacity and versatility for a wide range of needs.
With a noise rating of 57 dBA (less noisy than a conversation at home), the inverter generator's ignition is facilitated by Ryobi's EasyStart pull-start mechanism (more information below).
The RYi2322 boasts a fuel tank capable of holding 1.2 gallon, allowing it to run continuously for up to 10.3 hours (with fuel usage averaging around 0.12 gallons per hour).
Sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets, as the RYi2322 produces a clean sine wave, with a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).
Outlets
The control panel features the upcoming 2 AC outlets:
Furthermore, it has 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports providing convenient charging capabilities for mobile phones, tablets, and other electronic devices.
Portability
The Ryobi RYi2322 is distinguished by its enclosed inverter generator design (L22 x W12.5 x H19 in), providing improved aesthetics and quieter performance compared to traditional, open frame units. The design follows the contemporary trends and is perfect for recreationally generating power.
With a dry weight of 51.9 lbs, the RYi2322 is manageable, ensuring it can accompany you wherever you need power. Additionally, it can be easily moved with the help of its set of 2 wheels and its telecospic handle, once it is on the ground.
EasyStart Mechanism
The unit benefits from Ryobi’s EasyStart mechanism. This 3-step starting system allows you to easily start your generator. It works in the following way:
- Place the dial on the “COLD START” position
- Pull the recoil until the engine runs
- Let the engine run 15 to 30 seconds and place the dial on the “RUN/RE-START” position
Features
The RYi2322's control panel is equipped with a digital data center, furnishing detailed information on the fuel level, power output and remaining run time for you to easily track its activity and status.
As for its security measures, the device features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, letting you use it with a peace of mind.
It also benefits from Ryobi's CO DETECT technology, which is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the Ryobi RYi2322 also is packed along with the following accessories: oil, funnel and tool kit.
GenControl
Ryobi’s GenControl technology lets you control your generator from your smartphone. It allows you to always know exactly what is going on and to make adjustments when needed, so that everything keeps running without unexpected power loss.
Using Bluetooth technology, the generator communicates with the GenControl app (available on iOS (opens in a new tab) and Android (opens in a new tab) devices) to conveniently monitor power consumption, fuel level, remaining runtime, and even remotely shut off your generator directly from your smartphone.
The information displayed within the GenControl App is identical to the information displayed on the LCD screen of the RYi2322. Moreover, the GenControl app also supports parallel operation.

The Ryobi RYi2322 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Ryobi RYi2322 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).
- At 51.9 lbs dry, the Ryobi RYi2322 is consistent with the standard weight profile for inverters ranging from 1500 to 2500 rated watts. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the Genmax GM2000i with only 34.2 pounds.
- If compared to generators capable of producing a similar running wattage, this inverter generator with a lowest emitted noise of 57 dBA can be considered somewhat noisy. If you value reduced noise levels, the Honda EU2200i could be worth considering. It's one of the quietest generators in its power range, rated at 48 dBA.
- As the RYi2322 offers up to 10.3 hours run time on a full tank at a 25% load, it falls within the average autonomy range among the inverter generators of a similar power. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the DuroMax XP2300iH, boasting with up to 13 hours.
- Run time is crucial, but it heavily relies on the fuel tank's capacity. Thus, considering fuel efficiency alongside is essential. This inverter generator has an estimated fuel consumption of roughly 0.12 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 25% load, rendering it somewhat average compared to devices of a similar output. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Westinghouse iGen2800, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.08 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 1500-2500W inverter generators, the Ryobi RYi2322 is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

I have this generator & have put 5200 hrs on it in the last year & the only issue I’ve had is the carburetor seems to have an issue when under a load & stalls but I adjusted the choke to close it halfway & it seemed to fix the issue. It now burns oil like crazy, with each tank of gas (I get about 13.5 hrs outta a full tank) I have to add oil as well. It’s still under warranty so hopefully they fix the issue but from what I’ve read 3,000 hrs is considered high hours on a generator.
