  • Food truck owners who do not wish to see their business interrupted under any circumstances
  • Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials

Power & Run Time

The Ryobi RY907022FI in use

The Ryobi RY907022FI

The Ryobi RY907022FI's design includes a gasoline-fueled 420 cc Ryobi OHV 4-stroke engine. With a 120/240V output, it gives a running wattage of 7000W and also a peak wattage of 8750W.

At a noise rating of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a vacuum cleaner), this generator can be started via a conventional pull-start mechanism, or a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included).

The Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system enhances the engine's reliability, lowers fuel consumption, improves startup, reduces servicing, boosts stale fuel resistance, and offers better altitude adaptability.

With a fuel capacity of 6 gallons, the RY907022FI may run for around 9.3 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.65 GPH).

As the RY907022FI has a relatively high THD (<20%), it is not recommended to use it to power sensitive electronic devices.

Outlets

The control panel includes the following 5 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle

Due to the featured twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the RY907022FI is transfer switch ready: you may connect it to a breaker box to power your household during a power outage.

Portability

With its dimensions of L34 x W31 x H26 in, the conventional, open frame design of the Ryobi RY907022FI offers stability and allows the generator to be raised above ground level. The generator is designed for ideal use outdoors and in rough environments.

While the generator is considered to be technically 'portable' (in the sense that you can move it), manually lifting and transporting it may be challenging, due to its high weight of 214 lbs. However, its challenging mobility is solved by its wheel kit (⌀12") and its folding handle, which will ease its displacement, once it is on the floor.

Features

The RY907022FI's control panel

The RY907022FI's status and activity may be monitored conveniently via the control panel, as it features a convenient meter showing you voltage, frequency and lifetime hours.

From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, giving you a peace of mind during use.

It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the LED on the sensor will flash red and the generator will automatically shut down. It’s a welcomed additional security feature, but don’t forget to always take your generator outside (opens in a new tab).

Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the Ryobi RY907022FI also is packed along with the following accessories: tool kit, oil and funnel.

Emissions

The Ryobi RY907022FI is EPA approved, but NOT CARB-compliant. Thus, it cannot be purchased or sold in California.

However, it features a spark arrestor, which makes it suitable for use in forested areas.

The Ryobi RY907022FI versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Ryobi RY907022FI compare to generators of similar power (between 6500 and 7500 W).

  • At a dry weight of 214 pounds, the Ryobi RY907022FI is one of the heavier devices which can produce between 6500 and 7500 running watts. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the Sportsman GEN85KIDF with only 133 pounds.
  • This generator has a somewhat average expected noise for its power range, rated at 74 dBA. If noise emissions are important to you, one of the least noisy generators of this power range is the Powerhorse 7500i with only 55 dBA.
  • The RY907022FI's autonomy is somewhat low end compared to devices of its power range, as it reaches only around 9.3 hours at 50% load on a full tank. Furthermore, considering the run times, one of the generators which have a roughly same power output, with the highest autonomy, is the Generac XC6500E, as it provides around 14 hours.
  • Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. This generator has an estimated fuel consumption of roughly 0.65 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 50% load, rendering it somewhat average compared to devices of a similar output. If you wish to acquire one of the most gasoline efficient products of this power range, the Lifan ESI 7000iER-EFI, with a fuel consumption of 0.38 GPH could be in your good books.

The bottom line

STRENGTHS:
  • CO sensor
  • Several accessories included
  • GFCI Outlets
