Description
Zoom on the Ryobi RY903622
In summary, the Ryobi RY903622 is a portable generator especially useful for:
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
- People occasionally participating in sporting competitions, open-air performances and outdoor festivals
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
In the forthcoming sections, you'll delve into its power characteristics, the various outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the additional features it boasts.
Power & Run Time
Ryobi RY903622 runs on gasoline, powered by a 212 cc OHV 4-stroke engine, delivering 120V, boasting a running wattage of 3,600W alongside a starting wattage of 4,500W.
At a noise rating of 72 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a shower), the generator is started via Ryobi's EasyStart pull-start mechanism (more information below).
Equipped with a 4 gallons fuel tank, the RY903622 ensures continuous operation for around 10 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel usage approximately 0.4 gallons per hour).
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 5 AC outlets:
This Ryobi generator is RV Ready, as it features a TT-30R receptacle (TT stands for 'Travel Trailer').
Portability
The classic open frame build of the Ryobi RY903622 delivers stability and easy maintenance access to components, facilitating air circulation. The design is ideal for rough environments and demanding outdoor use.
Although this generator is technically considered 'portable' (in the sense that it can be moved), its 115 lbs make it incredibly difficult to manually lift and transport. Nevertheless, thanks to its wheel kit (⌀8.5") and its folding handle (a decent solution to its lack of maneuverability), the generator can be easily moved, once placed the ground.
EasyStart Mechanism
The unit benefits from Ryobi’s EasyStart mechanism. This 3-step starting system allows you to easily start your generator. It works in the following way:
- Put the engine switch on the “ON” position, and place the lever on the “START” position
- Pull the recoil until the engine runs
- Let the engine run 15 to 30 seconds and place the lever on the “RUN” position
Features
Regarding security, the generator comes with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, providing peace of mind during operation.
It also benefits from Ryobi's CO DETECT technology, which is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Besides the usual set of documentation and owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, Ryobi also included some oil in the RY903622's packaging.
The Ryobi RY903622 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Ryobi RY903622 compare to generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- With a dry weight of 115 lbs, the Ryobi RY903622 falls within the expected weight range for generators in the 3500 to 4500 rated wattage. If weight is a key factor for your needs, the Genmax GM4600iAEFIC is noteworthy for being one of the top contenders in this power range, with a dry weight of 58.4 pounds.
- This generator, with its lowest noise level at 72 dBA, is noisier than most generators of comparable running wattage. If you'd like a less noisy alternative, the Westinghouse iGen5000DF is a strong contender. It boasts a noise rating of 52 dBA, placing it among the quietest generators in its power category.
- Autonomy-wise, with around 10 hours on a full tank at a 50% load, the RY903622 is on the low end when compared to other generators of a similar power output. If extended autonomy is what matters most to you, the Predator 4375 could be an excellent choice, offering one of the longest run times among units in its power category, reaching around 16 hours.
- While the run time is an important parameter, it is dependent on the fuel tank's capacity and thus, doesn't say much on its own unless we consider fuel consumption as well. With an estimated fuel consumption of 0.4 GPH at a 50% load, this generator aligns with the average gasoline usage range of comparable products. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Westinghouse iGen5000DF, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.23 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
The bottom line
- CO DETECT technology
- RV Ready
- Decent weight (115 lbs)
- Decent fuel efficiency
- No data center
- On the noisy side (72 dBA)
- Relatively low run time

Knocks like crazy and all I hear from home depot is they don’t know why it does it. I ask can you replace it because I purchased it 2 and a half years ago and told it has been discontinued but you can buy this one for 6 hundred dollars and we may be able to pro-rate it. First time I have had issues with h.d. in 18 years. I won’t use them again
Used maybe about 10-15 times in a few years. Always used ethanol-free gas and kept fuel additive in to stop water condensation. Within 2 year we were having issues with starting and just finally figured out why. The tank had rusted and clogged the carburetor so now I have to replace the tank and carb at a cost over $150. We HAVE to have a generator to keep some pumps running to stop flooding. Fixing it for now but will be replacing soon. NOT HAPPY.
Not bad, but you MUST use gas treatment in your gas or this Ryobi will clog up instantly …funny that I asked this when I bought it and the salesperson said “no, regular gas works fine”…nor was in mentioned in the instruction manual. Since we never know when we’ll need a generator, my warranty expired before i knew this…so the second time I tried to start itwas a total failure
