Zoom on the Rainier R2200i
In a nutshell, the Rainier R2200i is a quiet, compact and lightweight portable inverter generator mostly geared towards:
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
- DIYers who wish to improve their efficiency with tools
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.
Power & Run Time
The Rainier R2200i's core is the 79 cc (2.7 hp) Rainier OHV 4-stroke engine, which runs on gasoline. With an output of 120V, it provides a running wattage of 1,800W and a peak wattage of 2,200W. Moreover, since it is parallel capable (parallel kit not included), its power may be doubled if linked to a second compatible unit.
Enjoying a noise rating of 52 dBA (just slightly more noisy than rainfall), this inverter generator gets running thanks to a conventional pull-start mechanism.
With a full tank, the R2200i can operate for up to 13 hours (fuel consumption around 0.1 GPH), thanks to its fuel capacity of 1.3 gallon.
Sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets, as the R2200i produces a clean sine wave, with a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 2 AC outlets:
Additionally, it features 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle with which charging your batteries is made easy.
Portability
The Rainier R2200i is an inverter generator and has an encased design of the following dimensions: L19.7 x W13.3 x H17.3 in. Thus, it is more aesthetical than conventional, open frame products. The generator has a contemporary design, convenient for recreationally generating power.
Weighing just 44 lbs, the R2200i can be considered a lightweight portable generator. The product’s power can be enjoyed on-the-go, as it can be moved by a single person without trouble. Further convenience is provided by its handle (molded in the case), as it allows you to carry it effortlessly.
Features
The light indicators show you if the generator is ready, the oil level is too low and the generator is overloaded.
Thanks to a built-in fuel gauge, the inverter generator allows you to quickly, conveniently and easily check the gas level at a glance.
As for its security measures, the device features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, letting you use it with a peace of mind.
Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the Rainier R2200i also is packed along with the following accessories: tool kit, oil and funnel.
Emissions
The Rainier R2200i is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Thus, selling and purchasing this generator is allowed in each of the 50 states, including California.
Moreover, it features a spark arrestor and therefore, can be used in forested areas.

The Rainier R2200i versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Rainier R2200i compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).
- As far as its dry weight is concerned, the Rainier R2200i weighs just 44 pounds and thus, it is one of the lighter 1500 to 2500 rated wattage inverter generators. If weight is your top priority, one of the champions in this power category is the Genmax GM2000i, weighing just 34.2 pounds.
- With a lowest noise rating of 52 dBA, the inverter generator is one of the more quiet of the generators of similar type and power. If you’d prefer a less noisy device, one of the most quiet devices, which share the same power range with this one, is the Honda EU2200i, whose lowest noise levels reach just 48 dBA.
- As the R2200i features an autonomy of up to 13 hours at 25% load, it has one of the highest run times in comparison to the other inverter generators of its power range.
- Autonomy holds its importance, however, it is largely dependent on the generator’s fuel capacity and so, it is nonsensible to discuss it without mentioning fuel efficiency as well. At an estimated fuel consumption of 0.1 GPH (gallon per hour) at 25% load, this inverter generator is a rather fuel efficient one within its wattage category. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the DuroMax XP2300iH, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.08 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.

User Reviews
Took mine up to the mountains for fourth of july (Almost 8000ft elevation). i was up there for 3 days and i ran this thing on a minimal capacity to just keep a fridge running and charge devices, nothing too heavy. It was super quiet that id forget it was running sometimes. it ran for about 20 hours in the 3 day period and by the end it was just barely below half a tank and never once had to fill it. meaning in the 20 hours it didn’t even use 1 gallon of fuel… AMAZING! its great cause it has not only 2 standard outlets but a 12v Cig lighter style outlet as well in case you forgot your wall adapter to your phone charger. At the 8000ft it still only usually took 2-3 tugs of the cord to get it going in the morning, but ALWAYS took a single pull once it was warmed up.
The only thing i was a little bummed about was it was NOT happy when i took it off eco mode to increase the output for a 1200w microwave. The generator still ran and powered it, but it was sputtering ever couple seconds from the lack of air intake. Ive had this problem on past generators, just get a second air filter, poke a couple good size holes in it and use that filter at high altitude.
Not much else to say other than it was definatly worth the four hundred and something bucks I spent on it. Sure you can get the top of the line honda engines that produce the same power that are only 4Db quieter, but you can buy 2 of these things for the price of one of those. So if youre planning on using it to run your house or RV that you live in 24/7 id fork it out for the honda. but as a camper or back up generator, this one is the best bank for your buck that wont chug gas or make your deaf.
