Zoom on the Pulsar PGD40iSCO
To sum up, the Pulsar PGD40iSCO is a quiet, compact and lightweight portable inverter generator tailored for:
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
- Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
- DIYers who wish to improve their efficiency with tools

- Camping and tailgating buffs looking to enhance their experience
The subsequent sections will explore in detail its power characteristics, the diverse outlets it provides, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it offers.
Power & Run Time
Running on gasoline, the Pulsar PGD40iSCO utilizes a 145 cc (5.5 hp) Ducar OHV 4-stroke engine to deliver 120V, offering a running wattage of 3,200W and a starting wattage of 4,000W. Moreover, since it is parallel capable (parallel kit not included), its power may be increased if linked to a second compatible unit.
The inverter generator features a simple traditional pull-start mechanism. It is rated for a noise of 59 dBA (less noisy than a refrigerator).
With a fuel capacity of 1 gallon, the PGD40iSCO may run for around 4.5 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.22 GPH).
The PGD40iSCO generates a clean sine wave with <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), ensuring minimal electrical noise and fluctuations. This feature makes it ideal for powering sensitive electronics, providing stable and reliable AC power through the outlets.
Outlets
The control panel features the upcoming 3 AC outlets:
This Pulsar generator is RV Ready, thanks to its TT-30R receptacle (TT stands for 'Travel Trailer').
Portability
As the Pulsar PGD40iSCO is an inverter generator, its encased design (L18.9 x W11.4 x H17.3 in) offers more aesthetics than a conventional, open frame product. This type of design is the most modern and convenient way to recreationally generate power.
The PGD40iSCO is a lightweight, portable generator, as it only weighs 46 lbs. With its manageable weight, one person can easily move it around, ensuring power wherever needed. Further convenience is provided by its handle (molded in the case), as it allows you to carry it with great ease.
Features
The device's light indicators will illuminate to indicate if the generator is overloaded, its oil levels are insufficient and the generator is ready.
Regarding security, the generator comes with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), providing peace of mind during operation.
The unit also benefits from Pulsar's CO Sentry carbon monoxide detection. The sensor monitors for the accumulation of poisonous carbon monoxide gas around the generator, and shuts down the engine is increasing levels of CO gas are detected.
Besides the features previously mentioned, accessory-wise, the Pulsar PGD40iSCO comes with the usual documentation and owner's manual (opens in a new tab) needed to get you promptly started.

The Pulsar PGD40iSCO versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Pulsar PGD40iSCO compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 2500 and 3500 W).
- Weight-wise, the Pulsar PGD40iSCO has only 46 lbs, which renders it one of the lightest inverter generators which produce 2500 to 3500 rated watts.
- At 59 dBA, this inverter generator's noise rating is in line with the expected average for devices within its type and power category. If you'd like a less noisy alternative, the Honda EU3000iS is a strong contender. It boasts a noise rating of 50 dBA, placing it among the quietest generators in its power category.
- Concerning its runtime, the PGD40iSCO provides around 4.5 hours at a 50% load, indicating that it falls on the lower side compared to other generators of its type and power range. If runtime is a priority for you, the Generac iQ3600DF stands out as one of the generators with the longest run time in its power range, providing around 13 hours of continuous use.
- Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary to get the full picture. At an estimated fuel consumption of 0.22 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load, this inverter generator is one of the most fuel-efficient units within its wattage category.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 2500-3500W inverter generators, the Pulsar PGD40iSCO is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.

Does it need a high altitude kit to operate at 6000 Ft? (Asked April 04, 2026)
The unit is carbureted, so will require rejetting to operate efficiently at that altitude. You may want to read our article on operating generators at high altitudes. Alternatively, you could also consider one of the units with electronic fuel injection.
