Zoom on the Pulsar PGD105TiSCO

In a nutshell, the Pulsar PGD105TiSCO is a powerful portable inverter generator mostly geared towards:

  • Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
  • Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
  • Professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure

In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.

Power & Run Time

The Pulsar PGD105TiSCO in use

The Pulsar PGD105TiSCO

The Pulsar PGD105TiSCO delivers 120/240V and benefits from a tri-fuel technology that allows it to run on gasoline, propane, or natural gas. When gasoline-powered, it enjoys a running wattage of 8,500W and a peak wattage of 10,500W. When propane-powered, it benefits from 8,000 rated watts and 9,500 peak watts. Its natural gas operation offers 6,800W of rated wattage and 8,400W of starting wattage. The impressive running wattage makes this unit one of the biggest inverter generators currently on the market. Moreover, since it is parallel capable (parallel kit not included), its power may be increased if linked to a second compatible unit.

Enjoying a noise rating of 62 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a normal conversation), this inverter generator can be started thanks to a simple traditional pull-start mechanism, but also to a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included). Moreover, to offer you even more convenience, the PGD105TiSCO can also be remotely started (key fob included).

As for its running time, the PGD105TiSCO, along with its 6.9 gallons fuel capacity, can run for around 9 hours at 50% load with a full tank filled with gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.77 GPH). If propane is used, it can operate for around 4.5 hours (estimation based on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 1.04 GPH).

Sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets, as the PGD105TiSCO produces a clean sine wave, with a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).

Outlets

The control panel includes the following 6 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

It also sports 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (1 x USB-A and 1 x USB-C) allowing you to conveniently charge electronics such as mobile phones and tablets.

As the PGD105TiSCO holds a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: you'll easily be able to connect it to your breaker box to power your home during a power outage.

Portability

The Pulsar PGD105TiSCO is an inverter generator and has an encased design of the following dimensions: L31.4 x W22.8 x H29.4 in. Thus, it is more aesthetical than conventional, open frame products. This modern design aims to provide an ideal power solution to recreational users.

Although this generator is technically considered 'portable' (in the sense that it can be moved), its 246.9 lbs make it incredibly difficult to manually lift and transport. However, its challenging mobility is solved by its set of 2 wheels and its folding handle, which will ease its displacement, once it is on the floor.

Features

The PGD105TiSCO's control panel

Monitoring of the PGD105TiSCO's status and activity is made possible by a digital data center, which provides information on the frequency, voltage, power output and lifetime run hours and is one of the features of its control panel.

In addition to this info, when its oil levels are insufficient, the generator is overloaded and the generator is ready, you will be informed by the featured light indicators.

The fuel level of the inverter generator can be determined quickly, easily, and conveniently with the help of its built-in fuel gauge.

As for its security measures, the device features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, letting you use it with a peace of mind.

The unit also benefits from Pulsar's CO Sentry carbon monoxide detection. The sensor monitors for the accumulation of poisonous carbon monoxide gas around the generator, and shuts down the engine is increasing levels of CO gas are detected.

Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the Pulsar PGD105TiSCO also comes with some accessories: tool kit, natural gas hose with NPT adapter, oil, propane hose and key fob are included.

Emissions

The Pulsar PGD105TiSCO is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Therefore, its sale and purchase are permitted in all of the 50 states, including California.

Moreover, it features a spark arrestor and therefore, can be used in forested areas.

The Pulsar PGD105TiSCO versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Pulsar PGD105TiSCO compare to multi-fuel generators of similar power (between 8000 and 9000 W).

  • With its weight of 246.9 lbs, the Pulsar PGD105TiSCO is one of the heaviest multi-fuel generators in the 8000-9000 rated wattage category. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc, with a dry weight of only 187.4 lbs.
  • With a lowest noise rating of 62 dBA, the inverter generator is one of the most quiet of the generators of similar type and power.
  • As far as autonomy is concerned, providing around 9 hours of runtime with a full tank at a 50% load, the PGD105TiSCO falls into the low end in comparison with other inverters of a comparable power output. If autonomy is your priority, one of the devices of a similar power output with the highest run time is the Champion 100416, reaching around 12.5 hours.
  • Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. This inverter generator has an average fuel consumption among comparably powerful devices, as it reaches 0.77 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 50% load. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the Pulsar PG10000B16. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.55 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 8000-9000W multi-fuel generators, the Pulsar PGD105TiSCO is on the expensive side of the price range.

While certainly not the cheapest of its kind, purchasing it would most likely also mean enjoying the reliability of a high-end product.

Unlike many websites, we did our best to research each of the specs above. That being said, we are not immune to making the occasional mistake or omission. Should you notice any missing or incorrect values, don't hesitate to suggest improvements so we can address the issue.
* Propane runtime is our own estimation, based on a 20 lbs tank and NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs of propane = 1 gal of gasoline.
