The subsequent sections will explore in detail its power characteristics, the diverse outlets it provides, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it offers.
Power & Run Time
Running on gasoline, the Pulsar PG3500MR operates with a 208 cc (7 hp) Ducar OHV 4-stroke engine, delivering 120V, with a running wattage of 3,000W and a peak wattage of 3,500W.
With a noise rating of 69 dBA (less noisy than an office), the generator's starting mechanism is centered around a manual recoil starter system.
The PG3500MR boasts a fuel tank capable of holding 4 gallons, allowing it to run continuously for around 12 hours at 50% load (with fuel usage averaging around 0.33 gallons per hour).
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 2 AC outlets:
Furthermore, it has 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A output making battery charging a breeze.
Portability
With its L23.6 x W17.5 x H17.9 in dimensions, the open frame structure of the Pulsar PG3500MR guarantees stability, simplified maintenance access to components, and better air cooling than enclosed units. The generator is designed for ideal use outdoors and in rough environments.
With a dry weight of 92 lbs, the PG3500MR can easily follow you wherever your power needs are. Furthermore, once placed on the floor, simple displacement is possible thanks to its wheel kit and its folding handle.
Features
The device’s light indicator will display if the oil level is too low.
The generator allows for a quick, easy and convenient assessment of its gas level, as it is equipped with a built-in fuel gauge.
From a security standpoint, the generator is furnished with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, ensuring peace of mind during operation.
Beyond the regular documentation and the user manual for quick start, Pulsar has included accessory] in the packaging of the PG3500MR.
The Pulsar PG3500MR versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Pulsar PG3500MR compare to generators of similar power (between 2500 and 3500 W).
- At 92 lbs in dry weight, the Pulsar PG3500MR fits well within the typical weight bracket for generators producing 2500 to 3500 rated watts. If weight is an important consideration for you, the Pulsar PGD40iSCO stands out as one of the top contenders in this power category, with a dry weight of 46 pounds.
- As this generator has its lowest possible noise of 69 dBA, it should be considered noisier compared to its peers of a comparable running wattage. If you value reduced noise levels, the Honda EU3000iS could be worth considering. It's one of the quietest generators in its power range, rated at 50 dBA.
- With a run time of around 12 hours at 50% load, the PG3500MR has one of the higher run times, compared to its similarly powerful peers. If run time is one of your main concerns, the Predator 4375 could be worth looking at. It boasts one of the highest run times among units of comparable power, lasting around 16 hours.
- Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary to get the full picture. This generator has an estimated fuel consumption of roughly 0.33 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 50% load, rendering it somewhat average compared to devices of a similar output. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the Pulsar PGD40iSCO. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.22 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 2500-3500W generators, the Pulsar PG3500MR is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.
The bottom line
- Inexpensive
- High run time
- Decent weight (92 lbs)
- Decent fuel efficiency
- No data center
- No electric start
- On the noisy side (69 dBA)
