Description

The PG3500M, incorporates Pulsar’s famous 7 HP dura-life engine that operates at just 67% of capacity when providing total output of up to 3500 peak watts of power. This allows for quieter operation, longer life and better fuel economy for operation up to 15 hours from just 4 gallons of gasoline. While the included mobility kit and dual 120V and 12V outlets will not only will power major appliances and other devices at the same time, its compact size, light weight and mobility kit make it ideal for contractors, camping, cottages and boats…wherever portable power is needed. Zoom on the Pulsar PG3500M

In summary, the Pulsar PG3500M is a compact portable generator especially useful for:

  • RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
  • People occasionally participating in sporting competitions, open-air performances and outdoor festivals
  • Amateur DIY lovers
  • Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures

The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, the extra features it benefits from, and any relevant emission compliance details.

Power & Run Time

The Pulsar PG3500M in use

The Pulsar PG3500M

The Pulsar PG3500M houses a 208 cc (7 hp) Ducar OHV 4-stroke engine, which provides 120V, consumes gasoline and delivers a running wattage of 3000W along with a peak wattage of 3500W.

The generator features a simple traditional pull-start mechanism. It is rated for a noise of 69 dBA (less noisy than an office).

The PG3500M can operate for around 15 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.27 GPH), due to its fuel capacity of 4 gallons.

Outlets

The control panel includes the following 2 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R)

It also sports 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A output with which charging your batteries is made easy.

Portability

The dimensions of the Pulsar PG3500M, which are L23.4 x W17.3 x H17.9 in, and its typical, open frame design provides stability and enables the generator to be raised above ground level. The generator is designed for ideal use outdoors and in rough environments.

The PG3500M can be taken anywhere with you, thanks to its weight of 99 lbs. In addition, with its wheel kit and its folding handle, it may be shifted with ease, once placed on the floor.

Features

Panel of the Pulsar PG3500M

The PG3500M's control panel

A light indicator allows you to instantly see if its oil levels are insufficient.

The fuel level of the generator can be determined quickly, easily, and conveniently with the help of its built-in fuel gauge.

From a security standpoint, the product offers an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.

As for its accessories, apart from the previously mentioned features, the Pulsar PG3500M also comes with the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), allowing you to start it right away.

Emissions

The Pulsar PG3500M is EPA approved, but NOT CARB-compliant. Thus, it cannot be purchased or sold in California.

However, it features a spark arrestor and thus, may be used in forested areas.

The Pulsar PG3500M versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Pulsar PG3500M compare to generators of similar power (between 2500 and 3500 W).

  • With a dry weight of 99 pounds, the Pulsar PG3500M finds itself in the expected weight range for generators able to produce between 2500 and 3500 rated watts. If weight is your top priority, one of the champions in this power category is the Generac GP3300i, weighing just 59.5 pounds.
  • Since the generator's noise is rated at 69 dBA, it has the roughly average expected noise for a device of similar power. If you’d prefer a less noisy device, one of the most quiet devices, which share the same power range with this one, is the Honda EU3000iS, whose lowest noise levels reach just 50 dBA.
  • As the PG3500M features an autonomy of around 15 hours at 50% load, it has a higher run time than an average generator of its power range. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the Predator 4375, with around 16 hours.
  • Autonomy holds its importance, however, it is largely dependent on the generator’s fuel capacity and so, it is nonsensible to discuss it without mentioning fuel efficiency as well. This generator is one of the more fuel efficient models of the aforementioned output range, as its estimated fuel consumption reaches just 0.27 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.17 GPH, the Westinghouse iGen4200 is a device you could look out for.

Price comparison

As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 2500-3500W generators, the Pulsar PG3500M is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
