Zoom on the Pulsar PG2200BiS

In a few words, the Pulsar PG2200BiS is a compact and lightweight portable inverter generator perfectly suited for:

  • Camping and tailgating buffs looking to enhance their experience
  • Handcrafting enthusiasts who wish to work on-the-go

Over the following sections, you'll uncover its power characteristics, the selection of outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it includes.

Power & Run Time

The Pulsar PG2200BiS in use

The Pulsar PG2200BiS

Delivering 120V, the Pulsar PG2200BiS is enhanced by dual-fuel technology, providing power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it boasts a running wattage of 1,800W and a starting wattage of 2,200W. Alternatively, when propane-powered, it delivers 1,600 running watts and 2,000 starting watts. Furthermore, the parallel capability (PGiPAIRB2 parallel kit (opens in a new tab) not included) offers the advantage of doubling power output when connected to another similar or compatible unit, delivering expanded energy capacity and flexibility for various applications.

The inverter generator features a traditional recoil pull-start mechanism. It is rated for a noise of 60 dBA (just as noisy as an office).

The running time of the PG2200BiS, with its 1.2 gallon fuel capacity, can reach around 8 hours at 50% load on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.15 GPH). With propane, it can reach around 20 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.24 GPH).

The PG2200BiS generates a clean sine wave: providing <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), delicate electronics can be plugged in its AC outlets safely.

Outlets

The control panel provides the upcoming 2 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R)

Moreover, it boasts 1 DC outlet: there's a 5V USB port allowing you to conveniently charge electronics such as mobile phones and tablets.

Portability

With an inverter generator design, the Pulsar PG2200BiS features a closed construction (L18 x W12 x H20 in), enhancing aesthetics and ensuring reduced noise levels, offering a distinct advantage over standard, open frame generators. This modern design aims to provide an ideal power solution to recreational users.

Weighing 54 lbs, the PG2200BiS is practical, ensuring it can follow you wherever power is required. Additionally, a conveniently placed handle (molded in the case) enhances grip, greatly aiding in moving the PG2200BiS across any distance.

Features

The PG2200BiS's control panel

The device’s light indicators will display if the generator is ready, the generator is on overload and its oil levels are insufficient.

Security-wise, this product benefits from an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.

Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the Pulsar PG2200BiS also comes with some accessories: oil, tool kit, propane hose and funnel are included.

The Pulsar PG2200BiS versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Pulsar PG2200BiS compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).

  • At 54 lbs, the Pulsar PG2200BiS stands out as one of the heavier inverter generators rated from 1500 to 2500 watts. if you wish to prioritize weight, the Genmax GM2000i is one of the top contenders in its power category, weighing only 34.2 pounds.
  • In comparison to generators with a similar running wattage, this inverter generator's lowest emitted noise of 60 dBA can be considered noisy. For those who are looking for a less noisy device, we suggest the Honda EU2200i. With just 48 dBA, it is one of the most quiet devices in this power range.
  • Thanks to an impressive running time of around 8 hours at 50% load, the PG2200BiS benefits from a higher run time than many inverter generators of a similar output. If runtime is a priority for you, the Westinghouse iGen2200 stands out as one of the generators with the longest run time in its power range, providing around 10 hours of continuous use.
  • Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary to get the full picture. This inverter generator provides better fuel efficiency than most others in its wattage range, consuming approximately 0.15 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load. If you wish to further improve in the area of fuel efficiency, the Westinghouse iGen2200, which boasts with a gas consumption of only 0.11 GPH, may be the right generator for you.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 1500-2500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Pulsar PG2200BiS is on the cheap side of the price range.

It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.

Great little generator if the output is all you need. Relatively quiet, seems reliable enough, and very cheap if you can find it on sale. If I paid full price, I would get a nicer/larger unit from a different manufacturer, but at under $350, it’s awesome. Being able to run on propane is a huge selling point for reliability. Really wish it came with a runtime meter, but it’s hard to complain.

    + PROS:
    • Sub $350 on sale, insanely cheap for the featureset
    • Comes with all needed components (oil, funnel, propane regulator hose, spark cap socket)
    - CONS:
    • No runtime meter
