Zoom on the Pulsar PG15KVTW

In a nutshell, the Pulsar PG15KVTW is a powerful portable generator mostly geared towards professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working.

In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.

Power & Run Time

The Pulsar PG15KVTW in use

The Pulsar PG15KVTW

The Pulsar PG15KVTW's design includes a gasoline-fueled 713 cc (25 hp) Ducar 4-stroke V-Twin engine. With a 120/240V output, it gives a running wattage of 12000W and also a peak wattage of 15000W.

Enjoying a noise rating of 77 dBA (less noisy than a vacuum cleaner), this generator gets running thanks to a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included).

Thanks to a fuel capacity of 10.6 gallons, the PG15KVTW can operate for around 10 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 1.06 GPH).

Outlets

The control panel features the upcoming 7 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R)
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

This Pulsar generator isn't quite RV Ready, but it features an L5-30R receptacle, allowing a simple RV connection through an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, as it features a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the PG15KVTW is transfer switch ready: in case of a power outage, you will be easily able to connect it to a breaker box and power your household.

Portability

The dimensions of the Pulsar PG15KVTW, which are L39.5 x W26.5 x H32 in, and its typical, open frame design provides stability and enables the generator to be raised above ground level. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.

As the generator's weight is 352.7 pounds, manually moving it or transporting it may be challenging, despite the fact that it is technically considered 'portable' (movable). Still, once it is on the ground, its wheel kit and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.

In addition, the device is equipped with a lift hook on the top of its frame, which provides extra safety during the loading, unloading and transport of the generator.

Features

Panel of the Pulsar PG15KVTW

The PG15KVTW's control panel

The PG15KVTW and its control panel include a convenient meter showing you voltage, frequency and lifetime hours. This feature comes handy when monitoring its status and activity.

In addition to this info, a light indicator shows you if the oil level is too low.

The generator includes a built-in fuel gauge, a quick, easy and convenient method of checking the device’s gas level.

As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off.

With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the Pulsar PG15KVTW also comes with several accessories, including: funnel and tool kit.

Emissions

The Pulsar PG15KVTW is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Therefore, its sale and purchase are permitted in all of the 50 states, including California.

Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, which makes it suitable for use in forested areas.

The Pulsar PG15KVTW versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Pulsar PG15KVTW compare to generators of similar power (between 10000 and 14000 W).

  • With its weight of 352.7 lbs, the Pulsar PG15KVTW is one of the heavier generators in the 10000-14000 rated wattage category. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the A-iPower SUA13000EFI with only 218 pounds.
  • The generator can be considered average in its noise for its power category, as it is rated at 77 dBA. If noise emissions are important to you, one of the least noisy generators of this power range is the A-iPower SUA13000EFI with only 69 dBA.
  • Offering around 10 hours of running time on a full tank at 50% load, the PG15KVTW is within the average autonomy range of similarly powerful generators. Furthermore, considering the run times, one of the generators which have a roughly same power output, with the highest autonomy, is the Powerhorse 13000ES, as it provides around 15 hours.
  • Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. This generator reaches an estimated fuel consumption of 1.06 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 50% load, making it average, for the previously mentioned wattage range. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the A-iPower SUA13000EFI. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.78 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.
