  • RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
  • Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
  • Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
  • Camping and tailgating buffs looking to enhance their experience

The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, the extra features it benefits from, and any relevant emission compliance details.

Power & Run Time

The Predator 5000 in use

The Predator 5000

The dual-fuel technology of the Predator 5000 allows for an output of 120V and provides superb power and versatility. If gasoline-powered, the device provides a running wattage of 3,900W and a starting wattage of 5,000W. If propane-powered, it gives 3,600 rated watts and 5,000 starting watts. In addition, as it is parallel capable (parallel kit not included), this power can be increased when linked to another similar or compatible unit.

With a noise rating of 60.5 dBA (just slightly more noisy than an office), the inverter generator features a conventional pull-start mechanism, but also a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included). For additional convenience, the 5000 may also be remotely started (key fob included).

The 5000, with a fuel capacity of 3.7 gallons, reaches a run time of up to 18.2 hours utilizing gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.2 GPH). Alternatively, it can reach a run time of up to 14.6 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.32 GPH) with propane.

Sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets, as the 5000 produces a clean sine wave, with a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).

The control panel provides the upcoming 3 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R)
120V 30A (TT-30R) receptacle

It also sports 3 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (1 x USB-A and 1 x USB-C) with which you may charge electronics, for example mobile phones or tablets, conveniently and a 12V 8A receptacle allowing you to easily charge your batteries.

Thanks to its TT-30R receptacle (TT stands for 'Travel Trailer'), this Predator generator is RV Ready.

As the Predator 5000 is an inverter generator, its encased design (L25 x W18 x H20.8 in) offers more aesthetics than a conventional, open frame product. This type of design is the most modern and convenient way to recreationally generate power.

As the generator's weight is 110 pounds, manually moving it or transporting it may be challenging, despite the fact that it is technically considered 'portable' (movable). However, its challenging mobility is solved by its set of 4 wheels (⌀5.5") and its telecospic handle, which will ease its displacement, once it is on the floor.

The 5000's control panel

Monitoring of the 5000's status and activity is made possible by a digital data center, which provides information on the voltage, power output and lifetime run hours and is one of the features of its control panel.

In addition to this info, the device’s light indicators will display if the generator is ready, the generator is overloaded and its oil levels are insufficient.

The fuel level of the inverter generator can be determined quickly, easily, and conveniently with the help of its built-in fuel gauge.

As for its security measures, the device features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), letting you use it with a peace of mind.

The unit also benefits from the Predator's CO SECURE™ carbon monoxide detection. This system monitors the accumulation of CO gas while the generator is running and will shut off the engine if the levels become dangerously high.

With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the Predator 5000 also comes with several accessories, including: battery charging cables, propane hose, key fob, funnel, tool kit and 3 altitude kits.

The Predator 5000 is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Therefore, its sale and purchase are permitted in all of the 50 states, including California.

Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, so it is adequate for use in forested areas.

The unit also meets the ANSI/PGMA G300-2018 safety and performance requirements.

The Predator 5000 versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Predator 5000 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).

  • As its weight is 110 pounds, the Predator 5000 falls in the expected weight range of the inverters in the 3500-4500 rated wattage category. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the Genmax GM4600iAEFIC, with a dry weight of just 58.4 pounds.
  • As this inverter generator can emit noise as low as 60.5 dBA, it finds itself in the average expected noise for this kind of power. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may be interested in the Westinghouse iGen4500DF, one of the least noisy generators similarly powerful as this one, rated for 52 dBA.
  • As the 5000 offers up to 18.2 hours run time on a full tank at a 25% load, it falls within the average autonomy range among the inverter generators of a similar power. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the Firman W03661OF, boasting with up to 25 hours.
  • Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. This inverter generator reaches an estimated fuel consumption of 0.2 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 25% load, making it average, for the previously mentioned wattage range. If you wish to acquire one of the most gasoline efficient products of this power range, the Champion 200988, with a fuel consumption of 0.16 GPH could be in your good books.

Here's a list of the most popular specific comparisons:

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 3500-4500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Predator 5000 is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

The dual fuel predator 5000 how much oil does it hold to fill it up properly (Asked September 02, 2023)

Engine oil capacity is 0.64 qt.

What type of engine oil does the predator generator use (Asked September 26, 2023)

For general, all-temperature use, SAE 10W-30 is recommended.

Does the 5000 come with a remote control shut off device (Asked September 28, 2023)

The unit comes with a key fob that can start or stop the generator from up to approximately 100 feet.

Does it come with a battery (Asked November 26, 2023)

The unit comes with a battery.

When ran parallel with identical inverter why is the parallel kit rated for 120V at 50A. I need 240V (Asked December 18, 2023)

Paralleling units does not increase voltage. The Predator 5000 only provides 120V. To increase voltage, units would have to be put in series. There are currently no kits to do that.

Using with solar on off grid cabin. Can it be connected to transfer switch to start automatically when batteries run low? (Asked February 16, 2024)

The unit is not compatible with automatic transfer switches. It will have to be manually started.
