To sum up, the Predator 4400 is a portable inverter generator tailored for:

  • RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
  • People occasionally participating in sporting competitions, open-air performances and outdoor festivals
  • DIYers who wish to improve their efficiency with tools
  • Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
  • Tailgating and campground aficionados with the desire of enjoying power anywhere they go
  • Professionals in need of safely powering high-intensity work or lighting equipment

The subsequent sections will explore in detail its power characteristics, the diverse outlets it provides, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it offers.

Power & Run Time

The Predator 4400 in use

The Predator 4400

Predator 4400 runs on gasoline, powered by a 223 cc (6.5 hp) OHV 4-stroke engine, delivering 120V, boasting a running wattage of 3,500W alongside a starting wattage of 4,400W. In addition, the device is parallel capable (parallel kit not included) and thus, can be linked to a similar or compatible unit for added power.

Operating at a noise rating of 67 dBA (less noisy than background music), this inverter generator starts up with a manual recoil starter system.

With its 3.2 gallons fuel tank, the 4400 can operate for up to 16 hours when fully fueled (with fuel usage averaging around 0.2 GPH).

The 4400 generates a clean sine wave with <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), ensuring minimal electrical noise and fluctuations. This feature makes it ideal for powering sensitive electronics, providing stable and reliable AC power through the outlets.

Outlets

The control panel features 5 AC outlets as follows:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle

It also sports 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) designed for hassle-free charging of various electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets, ensuring uninterrupted usage.

Despite not meeting the 'RV Ready' criteria, this Predator generator grants the advantage of simple RV compatibility via its L5-30R receptacle, enabling you to conveniently power your RV by using an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor (included).

Portability

The classic open frame construction of the Predator 4400 provides stability while enabling convenient maintenance access to components and adequate air cooling. The design is ideal for rough environments and demanding outdoor use.

Weighing 77 lbs, the 4400 is practical, ensuring it can follow you wherever power is required. Furthermore, the generator's open frame construction allows for easy grabbing and movement.

Features

The 4400's control panel

The device's light indicators will illuminate to indicate if the generator is ready, the generator is on overload and its oil levels are insufficient.

The fuel level of the inverter generator can be determined quickly, easily, and conveniently with the help of its built-in fuel gauge.

Security-wise, this product benefits from an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.

The unit also benefits from the Predator's CO SECURE™ carbon monoxide detection. This system monitors the accumulation of CO gas while the generator is running and will shut off the engine if the levels become dangerously high.

Apart from the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to facilitate setup, the Predator 4400 features extra accessories: tool kit, RV adapter and funnel.

The Predator 4400 versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Predator 4400 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 3000 and 4000 W).

  • Regarding weight, the Predator 4400 comes in at only 77 pounds, positioning itself as one of the lighter options among inverter generators spanning from 3000 to 4000 in rated wattage. If weight is an important consideration for you, the Pulsar PGD40iSCO stands out as one of the top contenders in this power category, with a dry weight of 46 pounds.
  • Among the generators of a comparable running wattage, this inverter generator with a lowest noise of 67 dBA can be judged as noisy. If noise emissions are important to you, one of the least noisy generators of this power range is the Westinghouse iGen4500DF with only 52 dBA.
  • The 4400's runtime of up to 16 hours at a 25% load on a full tank positions it within the average autonomy range compared to other inverter generators with similar power. If wyou wish to prioritize autonomy, the Firman W03661OF shines as one of the top contenders, offering one of the highest run times among generators with similar power output, totaling up to 25 hours.
  • Run time is crucial, but it heavily relies on the fuel tank's capacity. Thus, considering fuel efficiency alongside is essential. Standing at an estimated 0.2 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 25% load, this inverter generator is somewhat average in this area compared to other devices, within the aforementioned wattage range. If you wish to further improve in the area of fuel efficiency, the Energizer eZV3500P, which boasts with a gas consumption of only 0.13 GPH, may be the right generator for you.
According to our stats, the following comparison is pretty popular: Predator 4400 vs Predator 3500.

I use my 4400 Predator exclusively for my car wash business. Runs my water pressure gun, air compressor my vac, and polisher with no problem at all. Only shut down for a gas refill. I love this generator for work purposes.

    • Everything

    • It doesn't come with the wheels

Will only run AC in 2011 elkridge RV fifth wheel very few other items can’t even use the converter in the RV when the microwave is running or vice versa can’t use the refrigerator if the converter is running it’s got to be on propane so to me this generator inverter is a piece of garbage I don’t know how harbor freight and even sell it especially when the motor quits working in less than 3 months it Has no compression and will not start to me this generator inverter is a piece of junk motor sucks

    + PROS:
    • None
    - CONS:
    • Had in less than 3 months won't run RV will only run AC by itself nothing else motor lost all compression in less than 3 months won't even start

This has been a great little generator. It has powered my grand design reflection with no problem and that includes the a/c.

    + PROS:
    • Super quiet. Ran non stop for 3 days turned off only to fill up fuel. Powered everything in my camper including 15000 BTU a/c. I will say though, if you forget to flip the throttle switch it will not run the a/c.
    - CONS:
    • None yet. I’ve had it for 3 months now.

Like many others have found, it will NOT power a 13,500 BTU a/c even though it is advertised to do so. Bought for exclusive RV use. Have bigger unit for home use so this Predator is basically useless. H/F 20% restock fees suck even when products don’t do the job that they are advertised to do.

    + PROS:
    • Easy start. Engine strong.
    - CONS:
    • As stated in review.

    + PROS:
    • Rv plugs
    - CONS:
    • Wouldn’t power ac unit
