Description
Zoom on the Predator 1800
To sum up, the Predator 1800 is a compact and lightweight portable generator tailored for:
- Tailgating and campground aficionados with the desire of enjoying power anywhere they go
- Amateur DIY lovers
The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.
Power & Run Time
Running on gasoline, the Predator 1800 utilizes a 98 cc (2.6 hp) OHV 4-stroke engine to deliver 120V, offering a running wattage of 1,400W and a starting wattage of 1,800W.
The generator is rated for a noise of 69 dBA (less noisy than an office). Its starting mechanism is based on a conventional pull-start mechanism.
Thanks to a fuel capacity of 1.6 gallon, the 1800 can operate for around 9.5 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.17 GPH).
Outlets
The control panel provides the upcoming 2 AC outlets:
Furthermore, it showcases 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle enabling simple battery charging for added ease.
Portability
With a size of L18.4 x W14 x H16 in, the Predator 1800 features an open frame design, providing stability and simplified maintenance access to components, enhancing air circulation. The featured design is ideal for the outdoors and all tough environments.
Weighing 60 lbs, the 1800 is easily handled, ensuring it can go wherever your power needs are. In addition, it is even easier to grab and move the generator around thanks to its open frame design.
Features
Included in the control panel of the 1800 are a handy voltmeter that allows you to easily monitor power output anytime, essential for monitoring its status and activity.
In addition to this info, a light indicator shows you if its oil levels are insufficient.
A built-in fuel gauge allows for a quick, easy and convenient check of the fuel level of the generator.
From a security standpoint, the product offers an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.
The unit also benefits from the Predator's CO SECURE™ carbon monoxide detection. This system monitors the accumulation of CO gas while the generator is running and will shut off the engine if the levels become dangerously high.
Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the Predator 1800 is bundled with additional accessories: tool kit, funnel and battery charging cables.

The Predator 1800 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Predator 1800 compare to generators of similar power (between 1000 and 2000 W).
- Weighing in at 60 lbs, the Predator 1800 is one of the heavier generators available in the 1000-2000 rated wattage segment. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Pulsar PGD16iSCO, with a dry weight of only 24 lbs.
- As this generator has its lowest possible noise of 69 dBA, it should be considered noisier compared to its peers of a comparable running wattage. If you are concerned with noise, check out the Honda EU2200i, which is one of the least noisy generators in its power range, with a noise rating of just 48 dBA.
- The 1800 provides a higher run time than similarly powerful devices, reaching around 9.5 hours at 50% load. Furthermore, considering the run times, one of the generators which have a roughly same power output, with the highest autonomy, is the Pulsar PG2200, as it provides around 12 hours.
- The run time is important, but also hugely depends on the capacity of the fuel tank and doesn't mean much if we don't talk about fuel consumption as well. Standing at an estimated 0.17 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 50% load, this generator is somewhat average in this area compared to other devices, within the aforementioned wattage range. If you wish to further improve in the area of fuel efficiency, the Pulsar PGD16iSCO, which boasts with a gas consumption of only 0.09 GPH, may be the right generator for you.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 1000-2000W generators, the Predator 1800 is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.
The bottom line
- Inexpensive
- CO SECURE™ technology
- Several accessories included
- High run time
- Decent fuel efficiency
- Weak warranty
- On the heavy side (60 lbs)
- On the noisy side (69 dBA)
