Description

Zoom on the Predator 1800

To sum up, the Predator 1800 is a compact and lightweight portable generator tailored for:

  • Tailgating and campground aficionados with the desire of enjoying power anywhere they go
  • Amateur DIY lovers

The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.

Power & Run Time

The Predator 1800 in use

The Predator 1800

Running on gasoline, the Predator 1800 utilizes a 98 cc (2.6 hp) OHV 4-stroke engine to deliver 120V, offering a running wattage of 1,400W and a starting wattage of 1,800W.

The generator is rated for a noise of 69 dBA (less noisy than an office). Its starting mechanism is based on a conventional pull-start mechanism.

Thanks to a fuel capacity of 1.6 gallon, the 1800 can operate for around 9.5 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.17 GPH).

Outlets

The control panel provides the upcoming 2 AC outlets:

Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R)

Furthermore, it showcases 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle enabling simple battery charging for added ease.

Portability

With a size of L18.4 x W14 x H16 in, the Predator 1800 features an open frame design, providing stability and simplified maintenance access to components, enhancing air circulation. The featured design is ideal for the outdoors and all tough environments.

Weighing 60 lbs, the 1800 is easily handled, ensuring it can go wherever your power needs are. In addition, it is even easier to grab and move the generator around thanks to its open frame design.

The 1800's control panel

Included in the control panel of the 1800 are a handy voltmeter that allows you to easily monitor power output anytime, essential for monitoring its status and activity.

In addition to this info, a light indicator shows you if its oil levels are insufficient.

A built-in fuel gauge allows for a quick, easy and convenient check of the fuel level of the generator.

From a security standpoint, the product offers an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.

The unit also benefits from the Predator's CO SECURE™ carbon monoxide detection. This system monitors the accumulation of CO gas while the generator is running and will shut off the engine if the levels become dangerously high.

Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the Predator 1800 is bundled with additional accessories: tool kit, funnel and battery charging cables.

The Predator 1800 versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Predator 1800 compare to generators of similar power (between 1000 and 2000 W).

  • As its dry weight is 60 pounds, the Predator 1800 is one of the heavier of the products which can generate 1000 to 2000 running watts. If weight is a key factor for your needs, the Pulsar PGD16iSCO is noteworthy for being one of the top contenders in this power range, with a dry weight of 24 pounds.
  • In comparison to generators with a similar running wattage, this generator's lowest emitted noise of 69 dBA can be considered noisy. If noise level is one your key decisive factors, you may find the Honda EU2200i appealing. It's rated at 48 dBA, making it one of the quietest generators in its power range.
  • Among its devices with similar power, the 1800 offers one of the higher run times, running for around 9.5 hours at 50% load. If wyou wish to prioritize autonomy, the Pulsar PG2200 shines as one of the top contenders, offering one of the highest run times among generators with similar power output, totaling around 12 hours.
  • Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. With an estimated fuel consumption of 0.17 GPH at a 50% load, this generator aligns with the average gasoline usage range of comparable products. If you wish to acquire one of the most gasoline efficient products of this power range, the Pulsar PGD16iSCO, with a fuel consumption of 0.09 GPH could be in your good books.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 1000-2000W generators, the Predator 1800 is on the cheap side of the price range.

It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget generator.
