Description
Zoom on the Powermate PM2000
In a few words, the Powermate PM2000 is a compact and lightweight portable generator perfectly suited for:
- Camping and tailgating buffs looking to enhance their experience
- Handcrafting enthusiasts who wish to work on-the-go
The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.
Power & Run Time
Running on gasoline, the Powermate PM2000 utilizes a 98 cc Generac OHV 4-stroke engine to deliver 120V, offering a running wattage of 1,400W and a starting wattage of 2,000W.
Its starting mechanism is based on a manual recoil starter system. It features Powermate's PowerDial™, an easy-to-use dial with three operation settings.
Equipped with a 2.25 gallons fuel tank, the PM2000 ensures continuous operation for up to 14 hours with a full tank (fuel usage approximately 0.16 gallons per hour).
Outlets
The control panel is equipped with the following 2 AC outlets:
Portability
Measuring L19.7 x W15.6 x H17 in, the Powermate PM2000 showcases a classic open frame layout, guaranteeing stability and simple maintenance access to components, while facilitating air circulation. The featured design is ideal for the outdoors and all tough environments.
Weighing 62 lbs, the PM2000 is practical, ensuring it can follow you wherever power is required. Furthermore, thanks to its open frame, the generator is easily grabbed and moved to a new location.
Features
A built-in fuel gauge allows for a quick, easy and convenient check of the fuel level of the generator.
As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off.
In addition to the standard documentation and owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for prompt setup, Powermate has also included some oil in the packaging of the PM2000.

The Powermate PM2000 versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Powermate PM2000 compare to generators of similar power (between 1000 and 2000 W).
- With a weight of 62 lbs, the Powermate PM2000 sits in the heavier end of the spectrum among generators rated from 1000 to 2000 watts. If weight is your top priority, one of the champions in this power category is the Pulsar PGD16iSCO, weighing just 24 pounds.
- As the PM2000 features an autonomy of up to 14 hours at 25% load, it has one of the highest run times in comparison to the other generators of its power range.
- Autonomy holds its importance, however, it is largely dependent on the generator’s fuel capacity and so, it is nonsensible to discuss it without mentioning fuel efficiency as well. Among generators of similar output, this generator ranks somewhat poorly in fuel efficiency, with an estimated consumption of 0.16 GPH at a 25% load. To prioritize fuel savings, we advise considering the Westinghouse iGen1500c, which stands out for its gasoline efficiency, consuming just 0.07 gallons per hour.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 1000-2000W generators, the Powermate PM2000 is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
The bottom line
- In the expected price range
- High run time
- No data center
- No electric start
- On the heavy side (62 lbs)
- Low fuel efficiency
