Description
Zoom on the NorthStar e9250s
In a nutshell, the NorthStar e9250s is a portable generator mostly geared towards:
- Food van owners who know that just a short power outage could lose them hundreds of dollars
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
- Professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure
Over the following sections, you'll uncover its power characteristics, the selection of outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it includes.
Power & Run Time
The NorthStar e9250s's core is the 420 cc NorthStar e420 OHV 4-stroke engine, which runs on gasoline. With an output of 120/240V, it provides a running wattage of 7,250W and a peak wattage of 9,250W.
Enjoying a noise rating of 74 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a vacuum cleaner), this generator can be started thanks to a conventional pull-start mechanism, but also to a user-friendly and efficient electric starter (battery included).
The Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system enhances the engine's reliability, lowers fuel consumption, improves startup, reduces servicing, boosts stale fuel resistance, and offers better altitude adaptability.
The fuel capacity of 8 gallons allows the e9250s to operate for around 10.8 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.74 GPH).
The e9250s produces a clean sine wave: thanks to a <5% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), your sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel is equipped with the following 8 AC outlets:
Despite not having the 'RV Ready' status, this NorthStar generator provides the benefit of convenient RV compatibility through its L5-30R receptacle, enabling you to easily power your RV using an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, the e9250s's twist-lock L14-30R receptacle makes it transfer switch ready, enabling hassle-free connection to your breaker box for powering your home during outages.
Portability
At L41 x W32 x H29 in, the NorthStar e9250s boasts a traditional open frame structure, ensuring stability and allowing for convenient maintenance access to components, promoting air circulation. The featured design is ideal for the outdoors and all tough environments.
As the generator's weight is 277 pounds, manually moving it or transporting it may be challenging, despite the fact that it is technically considered 'portable' (movable). However, the lack of maneuverability can be offset with its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle, which allows for convenient shifting once the generator is placed on the ground.
Features
To help you monitor the e9250s's status and activity, the unit's control panel is equipped with a digital display that provides extensive information on the generator (more information about it below).
From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, giving you a peace of mind during use.
It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Alongside the typical set of documentation and owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to assist with setup, NorthStar has included a funnel in the packaging of the e9250s.
Full-Featured Display
The unit is fitted with a colored, multi-function LCD display that offers simple, yet incredinbly exhaustive, at-a-glance monitoring. It features 3 screens:
- Home: Gives you information about the load that is connected, fuel level, estimated remaining run time, and total runtime of the generator
- Service: Displays maintenance intervals and the time remaining before each service is due
- Diagnostic: Provides various electrical data, such as voltage, current, and frequency
The NorthStar e9250s versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the NorthStar e9250s compare to generators of similar power (between 6500 and 7500 W).
- As its dry weight is 277 pounds, the NorthStar e9250s is one of the heavier of the products which can generate 6500 to 7500 running watts. If weight is your top priority, one of the champions in this power category is the Champion 201515, weighing just 121.3 pounds.
- With noise emissions rated as low as 74 dBA, this generator falls within the typical noise range expected for devices of similar power. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may want to take a look at the Westinghouse iGen8200TFc. It's one of the quietest options among generators of similar power, rated at 60 dBA.
- Since the e9250s boasts with a run time of around 10.8 hours at 50% load, it can be safely judged as a device of a higher run time than most generators of a comparable output. For those prioritizing autonomy, the Firman H07553 could be considered, as it offers one of the longest run times among generators with similar power output, reaching around 12 hours.
- The run time is important, but also hugely depends on the capacity of the fuel tank and doesn't mean much if we don't talk about fuel consumption as well. Compared to similar devices, this generator is less fuel-efficient than most: it burns around 0.74 gallons of gasoline per hour at a 50% load. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Ford FG7750BiSRCO, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.5 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 6500-7500W generators, the NorthStar e9250s is on the expensive side of the price range.
While certainly not the cheapest of its kind, purchasing it would most likely also mean enjoying the reliability of a high-end product.

User Reviews
I’ve been stuck waiting for the power company to get our electric cut on for weeks now. Georgia Power is in no hurry to get us done apparently. I have gone through 4 generators in the mean time. 2 Ryobi’s one a 6500, and a 4500, then 2 generac 8000’s. All in 2 weeks trying to run my rv, while we wait for power, so i can start my build. After 4 generators let me down I bought the North Star Quiet Armor E9500S, and it’s run like a dream for 2 weeks off and on. 4 days on, with breaks of course, and oil changes, plug and air filter changes too. So far its been amazing! That thing cranks the first time, every time. I have 200 hours on it so far, and its been amazing! The load indicator is nice too! So I can make sure I never run it long for over 30% of load capasity. Now, I only run Non ethanol premium 93 octane in it, with fuel stabilizer. However, I did the same in the others, and they quit with in a day to 3 days tops. I am glad I bit the bullet and spent the money on the better unit. I was trying to stay around $1,000 for one, but Northern Tool had a sale, and with my discount I got it for $1,690 after tax. $690 more than I wanted to spend, but that said, its been worth it! If you need a reliable generator, buy one with a honda engine! Their life span is between 3,500 and 9,000 hours. Thats substantially better than anyone elses at this point. Also, make sure you get a generator pushing out double the running watts you need,if you need to run it often. As none of them will last, if your always running it close to max power. This specific generator I would buy a hundred times over vs a generac or ryobi, champion, predator, or any of another thousand brands. The Honda motor preforms great! Good luck!
