Description

Zoom on the Lifan LF15000-EPL

In summary, the Lifan LF15000-EPL is a powerful portable generator especially useful for professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working.

The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, the extra features it benefits from, and any relevant emission compliance details.

Power & Run Time

The Lifan LF15000-EPL's design includes a gasoline-fueled 724 cc (27 hp) Lifan OHV 4-stroke engine. With a 120/240V output, it gives a running wattage of 14000W and also a peak wattage of 15000W.

The generator features a conventional pull-start mechanism and also a simple and elegant electric starter (battery not included). It is rated for a noise of 75 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a vacuum cleaner).

With a full tank, the LF15000-EPL can operate for around 12 hours at 50% load (fuel consumption around 1.17 GPH), thanks to its fuel capacity of 14 gallons.

As the LF15000-EPL produces a clean sine wave, with a <5% Total Harmonic Disruption (THD), sensitive electronics may be plugged in the AC outlets safely.

Outlets

The control panel features the following 6 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

Furthermore, it has 3 DC outlets: there's a 12V 8A receptacle with which charging your batteries is made easy and two 5V USB ports allowing you to conveniently charge electronics such as mobile phones and tablets.

Even though this Lifan generator isn't quite RV Ready, its L5-30R receptacle allows an easy RV connection via an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor.

Portability

The dimensions of the Lifan LF15000-EPL, which are L29 x W27 x H33 in, and its typical, open frame design provides stability and enables the generator to be raised above ground level. This type of design is ideal for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.

While the generator is considered to be technically 'portable' (in the sense that you can move it), manually lifting and transporting it may be challenging, due to its high weight of 358 lbs. Nevertheless, it can still be moved quite conveniently with the help of its wheel kit, once it is placed on the ground.

The LF15000-EPL's control panel

The LF15000-EPL's control center features a convenient meter, which displays voltage, frequency and lifetime hours to aid you with the monitoring of its status and activity.

The fuel level of the generator can be determined quickly, easily, and conveniently with the help of its built-in fuel gauge.

From a security standpoint, the product offers an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.

With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the Lifan LF15000-EPL also comes with several accessories, including: battery charger and tool kit.

Emissions

The Lifan LF15000-EPL is EPA approved, but NOT CARB-compliant. Thus, it cannot be purchased or sold in California.

However, it features a spark arrestor and thus, may be used in forested areas.

The Lifan LF15000-EPL versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Lifan LF15000-EPL compare to generators of similar power (between 10000 and 14000 W).

  • Considering its dry weight of 358 pounds, the Lifan LF15000-EPL is one of the heavier generators producing between 10000 and 14000 running watts. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the A-iPower SUA13000EFI, with a dry weight of only 218 lbs.
  • Because this generator emits noise as low as 75 dBA, it can be considered to have a pretty average expected noise rating for a device of its power. For those who are looking for a less noisy device, we suggest the A-iPower SUA13000EFI. With just 69 dBA, it is one of the most quiet devices in this power range.
  • Thanks to an impressive running time of around 12 hours at 50% load, the LF15000-EPL benefits from a higher run time than many generators of a similar output. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the Powerhorse 13000ES, with around 15 hours.
  • Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. Compared to its peers, this generator is not exactly fuel efficient, compared to similarly powerful devices, with an estimated fuel consumption of 1.17 GPH at a 50% load. If you wish to acquire one of the most gasoline efficient products of this power range, the A-iPower SUA13000EFI, with a fuel consumption of 0.78 GPH could be in your good books.

Price comparison

As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 10000-14000W generators, the Lifan LF15000-EPL is on the expensive side of the price range.

While certainly not the cheapest of its kind, purchasing it would most likely also mean enjoying the reliability of a high-end product.

Starts fine if you use jumper cables to your vehicle battery. If you don’t like that information, don’t buy the generator. Fuel tank is on approx. 8 gallons (less than two 5 gallon Jerry cans), not 14 gallons as per spec. The battery supplied lasted only on start, then dead as a doornail. Customer service indicated a design flaw with the voltage regulator and battery will constantly discharge when connected to the battery. Customer service AWS Parts was no help. Knowing this, it will never start if relying on the automatic transfer switch. Advertising specs say running wattage max is 14KW, however when recieved the unit is stamped with 12.5KW running. Peak amperage stamped on the unit is 100/50, not 125/62.5 amps as advertised. Highly NOT recommended to buy this unit. LF15000EPL.

    + PROS:
    • Looks nice. Big wheels.
    - CONS:
    • Will not start. Will not recharge battery. Fuel tank smaller than advertised. Will never start Automatically with Automatic transfer switch if battery is perpetually discharging even when key and unit are in off position.
