Description

Zoom on the KOHLER PRO12.3EFI

In a nutshell, the KOHLER PRO12.3EFI is a powerful portable generator mostly geared towards professionals in need of safely powering high-intensity work or lighting equipment.

In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.

Power & Run Time

The KOHLER PRO12.3EFI in use

The KOHLER PRO12.3EFI

The KOHLER PRO12.3EFI's design includes a gasoline-fueled 694 cc KOHLER Command PRO® EFI OHV 4-stroke engine. With a 120/240V output, it gives a running wattage of 10500W and also a peak wattage of 12300W.

Enjoying a noise rating of 79.9 dBA (less noisy than a shower), this generator can be started thanks to a conventional pull-start mechanism, but also to a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included). Moreover, to offer you even more convenience, the PRO12.3EFI can also be remotely started (separate purchase).

The Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system enhances the engine's reliability, lowers fuel consumption, improves startup, reduces servicing, boosts stale fuel resistance, and offers better altitude adaptability.

With a fuel capacity of 8.7 gallons, the PRO12.3EFI may run for around 10 hours at 50% load with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.87 GPH). Refilling the fuel tank is facilitated by KOHLER’s Accu-Fill™ technology. It offers a 45% larger angled fuel inlet, which allows for an easier and safer pouring of gasoline as well as less spilling.

The PRO12.3EFI produces a clean sine wave: thanks to a <5% Total Harmonic Disruption (THD), your sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets.

Outlets

The control panel provides the upcoming 7 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (SS2-50R) receptacle

Furthermore, it has 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A receptacle with which you may charge your batteries with ease.

Even though this KOHLER generator isn't quite RV Ready, its L5-30R receptacle allows an easy RV connection via an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, as it features a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the PRO12.3EFI is transfer switch ready: in case of a power outage, you will be easily able to connect it to a breaker box and power your household.

Portability

The KOHLER PRO12.3EFI has a conventional, open frame design, of the following dimensions: L35.2 x W22.4 x H30.3 in, which offers support and allows it to be raised above ground level. The device has been designed for tough environments and demanding outdoor use.

Even though this device may be technically portable (as in movable), manipulation and transportation without special equipment can be a challenge, as it weighs 306 pounds. Still, once it is on the ground, its wheel kit can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.

Features

The PRO12.3EFI's control panel

Monitoring of the PRO12.3EFI's status and activity is made possible by a digital data center, which provides information on the lifetime run hours and is one of the features of its control panel.

The fuel level of the generator can be determined quickly, easily, and conveniently with the help of its built-in fuel gauge.

Security-wise, this product benefits from an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off (Oil Sentry™ technology), which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.

Accessory-wise, along with the previously mentioned features, the KOHLER PRO12.3EFI is packaged with the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helping you start the device right away.

Emissions

The KOHLER PRO12.3EFI is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. It can therefore be sold and purchased in all 50 states, including California.

The KOHLER PRO12.3EFI versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the KOHLER PRO12.3EFI compare to generators of similar power (between 10000 and 11000 W).

  • A weight of 306 lbs makes the KOHLER PRO12.3EFI one of the heavier devices in the 10000-11000 rated wattage range. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the A-iPower SUA13000EFI with only 218 pounds.
  • This generator, with its lowest possible noise rated at 79.9 dBA falls into the more noisy category, compared to other devise of a similar running wattage. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may be interested in the A-iPower SUA13000EFI, one of the least noisy generators similarly powerful as this one, rated for 69 dBA.
  • Given that the PRO12.3EFI reaches an autonomy of around 10 hours with a full tank and at 50% load, it is placed within the average autonomy range of similarly powerful generators. Concerning the run times, one of the several devices with a comparable output, offering the highest autonomy, is the Powerhorse 13000ES, which is able to run for around 15 hours.
  • The run time is important, but also hugely depends on the capacity of the fuel tank and doesn't mean much if we don't talk about fuel consumption as well. This generator is one of the more fuel efficient models of the aforementioned output range, as its estimated fuel consumption reaches just 0.87 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the A-iPower SUA13000EFI, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.78 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
