In the forthcoming sections, you'll delve into its power characteristics, the various outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the additional features it boasts.
Power & Run Time
With a 121 cc Honda GXR120 OHV 4-stroke engine with cast iron sleeve, the Honda EU2200i operates on gasoline, providing 120V, with a running wattage of 1,800W and a starting wattage of 2,200W. Furthermore, its parallel capability (Honda parallel cables (opens in a new tab) not included) allows for doubling of power output when connected to another similar or compatible unit, ensuring expanded energy capacity and reliability for various applications.
The inverter generator boasts with a low noise rating of 48 dBA (less noisy than bird calls) which earned its spot in our 10 quietest portable generators. Its starting mechanism is based on a classic hand-operated recoil starting mechanism.
Featuring a 0.95 gallon fuel tank, the EU2200i can provide power for up to 8.1 hours on a full tank (with fuel consumption averaging 0.12 gallons per hour).
With a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the EU2200i delivers a clean sine wave, essential for safeguarding your delicate electronics when plugged into its AC outlets.

The control panel features the following 2 AC outlets:
Portability
As the Honda EU2200i is an inverter generator, its encased design (L20 x W11.4 x H16.7 in) offers more aesthetics than a conventional, open frame product. This type of design is the most modern and convenient way to recreationally generate power.
At just 47.4 lbs, the EU2200i is notably lightweight, making it an excellent choice for portable power. The generator can be moved with ease by only one person and so it can be enjoyed on-the-go. Its handle (molded in the case) adds to the convenience, making it easy to carry.
Features
The generator's light indicators provide visual feedback when its oil levels are insufficient, the generator is overloaded and the generator is ready.
Security-wise, this product benefits from an automatic low oil shut-off (Oil Alert®) and an overload protection (circuit breaker), which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.
Besides the features previously mentioned, accessory-wise, the Honda EU2200i comes with the usual documentation and owner's manual (opens in a new tab) needed to get you promptly started. An official storage cover is available, as a separate purchase.
CO Minder
Honda's CO Minder is a system that monitors the ambient carbon monoxide concentration, and automatically stops the engine if the sensor detects a CO level of or exceeding 800 parts per million (ppm) at a given time, or an average of 400 ppm for 10 minutes.
A CO alarm indicator will flash for about five minutes, during which it will be impossible to restart the engine.
Honda My Generator App
The Honda My Generator App (available on iOS and Android) makes owning the EU2200i even more flexible and convenient, whether you are depending on it at home during a power outage, or enjoying an adventure at a remote campsite.
The app connects your unit and your phone via Bluetooth, across a 75-foot line of sight, giving you valuable information about your generator's operation and many additional features in the palm of your hands.
With it, you can easily monitor a range of information such as output power, lifetime run hours, oil life, or estimated remaining runtime. You’ll also receive warnings and notifications to remind you of routine maintenance.
The app allows you to control multiple, compatible Honda generators from a single mobile device and, even though the EU2200i does not have an electric start and requires a manual start-up, you’ll be able to remotely stop it.

The Honda EU2200i versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Honda EU2200i compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).
- With a dry weight of 47.4 lbs, the Honda EU2200i sits comfortably within the expected weight range for inverters generating 1500 to 2500 rated watts. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the Genmax GM2000i with only 34.2 pounds.
- With noise levels starting from 48 dBA rating, this inverter generator stands out as one of the most quiet options among products of similar type and power.
- Concerning its runtime, the EU2200i provides up to 8.1 hours at a 25% load, indicating that it falls on the lower side compared to other generators of its type and power range. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the DuroMax XP2300iH, with up to 13 hours.
- While run time is vital, it hinges on the fuel capacity. To grasp the full picture, we must also factor in fuel efficiency. The inverter generator burns fuel at a rate of around 0.12 GPH when running at a 25% load, which is consistent with the average fuel usage of models of comparable power output. If minimizing fuel usage is one of your key priorities, the Westinghouse iGen2800c is one of the most efficient devices with similar power output, with a gasoline consumption of only 0.08 gallons per hour.

About Honda
Founded in 1948, the Japanese Honda Motor Company has gained notoriety for consistently producing top quality engines, motor-powered vehicles and devices. Over the years, the company has gained a strong reputation in the motorcycle, automobile, but also power tool industry. Honda’s power tool division has been producing power tools since 1953, including tillers, mowers, blowers, sprayers and of course, power generators. While the company has expanded globally and moved a majority of its production out of Japan into other Asian countries, Honda is to this day known as a legend among the generator manufacturers.

What is the difference between the EU2200i and the EU2200iTAN?
These model numbers refer to the same unit, but simply include more or less information regarding its specs, production batch, etc. Read how Honda name their generators.
How can you tell from model number alone whether it is Bluetooth enabled? I have seen EU2200i’s without Bluetooth I believe. Tganks (Asked May 07, 2021)
If the full model number ends with G (50-states) or N (49-states), the unit features both CO Minder and Bluetooth connectivity. These 2 final letters were introduced with the new generation of Honda units.
Can I buy one if I live in california (Asked February 01, 2022)
The unit exists in 2 versions, a 50-states and a 49-states. For California, ensure that you are buying the EU2200iTAG model.
If you own a Honda EU2200i and the EU2200i companion .. can you power them Both Off from your iPhone .. and if Yes .. is it done off one app or two apps (Asked April 03, 2022)
The Honda My Generator app allows you to control multiple generators from a single phone, and a single app. Note that none of the two units you mentioned can be remotely started through the app, since they do not have an electric start mechanism.

User Reviews
I have the EU22i (UK version, 240v output) which I use for camping. Even though it was more expensive than other brands I went for the Honda because every other single generator owner I know, from farmers, builders, and other campers use and recommend them (not necessarily the EU22i but Honda in general). Parts are easy to get hold of and given how ubiquitous these things are, the local small engine mechanics know what they’re doing with them.
It seems quiet enough(I use a very long lead which means it can barely be heard on the campsite itself) it’s easy to start, although it does take a few pulls after it comes out of its winter storage and the eco throttle means it’s very, very frugal with the fuel.
Home back up wise (although I’ve never ‘had’ to use it for that) it runs a Siemens Fridge Freezer, all the house lights, TV, router, computer and games console all at the same time and still runs at less than 50% capacity. If I load manage it, I can add a kettle or use the microwave/sandwich toaster – 5ls of fuel lasted me almost 8 hours; so, it’s probably a decent option as an emergency home back up.
Just hit the 100 hour mark according to the ‘blinking light’ meter.
Use this all the time for running some electrical equipment that’s too far from the house to run extension cords. Being mine is the ‘companion’ model, it’ll even run the house when plugged into the transfer switch. (120v only of course)
Only gripe is the Bluetooth. It has never worked properly, even visited the Honda dealer where purchased, and called the help line too.
It requires one to reload the app on the phone, and will work only until the generator is shut down.
Except for this, the generator has been 100% all the time with just oil changes and running treated non- alcohol gasoline.
I have had this for about 5 years and have it wired to my panel with an interlock. It runs a furnace or 6000 btu window unit along withs some lights and 18 cu fridge with no issues.
In my opinion the best you can buy, lightweight easy to move around. I have two to power my Montana High country. They run everything I need. You pay a bit more, but you get what you pay for. Do regular maintenance and they won’t let you down!
I bought this generator when it first came out as the 2200i. I race dirtbikes, so I bring this with me to every event and connect it to my trailer, typically runs for 2-3 days at a time 2-3 days a month spring/summer/fall. It’s never used 5 gallons during its 2-3 day runtime at a time. I use it to power battery chargers, my father’s CPAP machine, fans, lights, powered coolers/small fridge. Take it camping to power my coolers, lights, and coffee pot. Extremely quiet and pretty light. Typically 2 pulls to start, if it sits all winter without being started, 5 pulls or so it starts. I also use it to power only my pellet stove during a winter power outage, which has a 300watt max draw, and the generator will run it for 10hrs on a tank (definitely overnight) and it’s almost empty. I change the oil once a year, takes longer to warm up the oil so it drains faster than it does to change it. used to use a predator, but it seemed extremely sensitive to fuel if it sat for a month between uses so I went with this Honda and it’s never let me down. People may complain about the price, compared to the predator, you definitely get what you pay for. Never had an issue with it. Great little generator, zero regrets, highly recommend.
