Zoom on the Honda EU2200i
In a nutshell, the Honda EU2200i is a quiet, compact and lightweight portable inverter generator mostly geared towards:
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
- Handcrafting enthusiasts who wish to work on-the-go
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.
Power & Run Time
The Honda EU2200i's engine, 121 cc Honda GXR120 OHV 4-stroke, fueled by gasoline, can deliver 120V. It provides a running wattage of 1800W and reaches a peak wattage of 2200W. Moreover, since it is parallel capable (Honda parallel cables (opens in a new tab) not included), its power may be doubled if linked to a second compatible unit.
Enjoying a low noise rating of 48 dBA (less noisy than bird calls) which earned this unit its place in our list of the 10 quietest portable generators, it gets running thanks to a conventional pull-start mechanism.
Thanks to a fuel capacity of 0.95 gallon, the EU2200i can operate for up to 8.1 hours with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.12 GPH).
Sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets, as the EU2200i produces a clean sine wave, with a <3% Total Harmonic Disruption (THD).
Outlets
The control panel features the following 2 AC outlets:
Portability
The Honda EU2200i is an inverter generator and has an encased design of the following dimensions: L20 x W11.4 x H16.7 in. Thus, it is more aesthetical than conventional, open frame products. The design follows the contemporary trends and is perfect for recreationally generating power.
Weighing just 47.4 lbs, the EU2200i can be considered a lightweight portable generator. The device can be easily moved by just one person and thus, its power may be enjoyed on-the-go. Further convenience is provided by its handle (molded in the case), as it allows you to carry it effortlessly.
Features
The device’s light indicators will display if the generator is on overload, the generator is ready and the oil level is too low.
From a security standpoint, the product offers an automatic low oil shut-off (Oil Alert®) and an overload protection (circuit breaker), allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.
Accessory-wise, along with the previously mentioned features, the Honda EU2200i is packaged with the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helping you start the device right away. An official storage cover is available, as a separate purchase.
CO Minder
Honda's CO Minder is a system that monitors the ambient carbon monoxide concentration, and automatically stops the engine if the sensor detects a CO level of or exceeding 800 parts per million (ppm) at a given time, or an average of 400 ppm for 10 minutes.
A CO alarm indicator will flash for about five minutes, during which it will be impossible to restart the engine.
While it’s a welcomed additional security feature, remember to always take your generator outside (opens in a new tab).
Honda My Generator App
The Honda My Generator App (available on iOS and Android) makes owning the EU2200i even more flexible and convenient, whether you are depending on it at home during a power outage, or enjoying an adventure at a remote campsite.
The app connects your unit and your phone via Bluetooth, across a 75-foot line of sight, giving you valuable information about your generator's operation and many additional features in the palm of your hands.
With it, you can easily monitor a range of information such as output power, lifetime run hours, oil life, or estimated remaining runtime. You’ll also receive warnings and notifications to remind you of routine maintenance.
But there’s more! The app allows you to control multiple, compatible Honda generators from a single mobile device and, even though the EU2200i does not have an electric start and requires a manual start-up, you’ll be able to remotely stop it.
Emissions
The Honda EU2200i is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Therefore, its sale and purchase are permitted in all of the 50 states, including California.
Moreover, it features a spark arrestor and therefore, can be used in forested areas.
The unit also meets the ANSI/PGMA G300-2018 safety and performance requirements.

The Honda EU2200i versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Honda EU2200i compare to generators of similar power (between 1500 and 2500 W).
- Since the generator weighs in at a dry weight of 47.4 lbs, the Honda EU2200i belongs in the expected weight range for devices which can produce between 1500 and 2500 rated watts. If weight is your top priority, one of the champions in this power category is the Genmax GM2000i, weighing just 34.2 pounds.
- Since this inverter generator is rated for a lowest possible noise of 48 dBA, it can be considered as one of the most quiet of the products generating similar power.
- As for its autonomy, the EU2200i, with an autonomy of up to 8.1 hours at a 25% load, is placed on the low end among the generators of its kind. Concerning the run times, one of the several devices with a comparable output, offering the highest autonomy, is the Westinghouse WH2200iXLT, which is able to run for up to 13 hours.
- Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. Standing at an estimated 0.12 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 25% load, this inverter generator is somewhat average in this area compared to other devices, within the aforementioned wattage range. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Energizer eZV2200P, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.08 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.

What is the difference between the EU2200i, the EU2200iTAN and the EU2200iTAG?
The final "G" in "EU2200iTAG" indicates that the unit is CARB-compliant. The final "N" in "EU2200iTAN" indicates that the unit cannot be sold in California. Regarding the rest of the model names, as a rule of thumb, they refer to the unit itself, but simply include more or less information regarding its specs, production batch, etc. Read how Honda name their generators.
How can you tell from model number alone whether it is Bluetooth enabled? I have seen EU2200i’s without Bluetooth I believe. Tganks (Asked May 07, 2021)
If the full model number ends with G (50-states) or N (49-states), the unit features both CO Minder and Bluetooth connectivity. These 2 final letters were introduced with the new generation of Honda units.
Can I buy one if I live in california (Asked February 01, 2022)
The unit exists in 2 versions, a 50-states and a 49-states. For California, ensure that you are buying the EU2200iTAG model.
If you own a Honda EU2200i and the EU2200i companion .. can you power them Both Off from your iPhone .. and if Yes .. is it done off one app or two apps (Asked April 03, 2022)
The Honda My Generator app allows you to control multiple generators from a single phone, and a single app. Note that none of the two units you mentioned can be remotely started through the app, since they do not have an electric start mechanism.

I bought this generator when it first came out as the 2200i. I race dirtbikes, so I bring this with me to every event and connect it to my trailer, typically runs for 2-3 days at a time 2-3 days a month spring/summer/fall. It’s never used 5 gallons during its 2-3 day runtime at a time. I use it to power battery chargers, my father’s CPAP machine, fans, lights, powered coolers/small fridge. Take it camping to power my coolers, lights, and coffee pot. Extremely quiet and pretty light. Typically 2 pulls to start, if it sits all winter without being started, 5 pulls or so it starts. I also use it to power only my pellet stove during a winter power outage, which has a 300watt max draw, and the generator will run it for 10hrs on a tank (definitely overnight) and it’s almost empty. I change the oil once a year, takes longer to warm up the oil so it drains faster than it does to change it. used to use a predator, but it seemed extremely sensitive to fuel if it sat for a month between uses so I went with this Honda and it’s never let me down. People may complain about the price, compared to the predator, you definitely get what you pay for. Never had an issue with it. Great little generator, zero regrets, highly recommend.
