In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.

Power & Run Time

The Genmax GM9000iED in use

The Genmax GM9000iED

Featuring dual-fuel technology, the Genmax GM9000iED provides 120/240V, and offers both power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 7,600W and a starting wattage of 9,000W. When propane-powered, it offers 7,200 running watts and 8,550 starting watts. Furthermore, its parallel capability (GM9000PK (opens in a new tab) not included) allows power output to increase when connected to another similar or compatible unit, ensuring expanded energy capacity and reliability for various applications.

At a noise rating of 62 dBA (just slightly more noisy than an office), this inverter generator can be started via a classic hand-operated recoil starting mechanism, or an easy-to-use and reliable electric starter (battery included). To add further convenience, the GM9000iED can be remotely started (key fob included).

As for its running time, the GM9000iED, along with its 6.9 gallons fuel capacity, can run for up to 14.5 hours with a full tank filled with gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.48 GPH). If propane is used, it can operate for up to 7 hours (estimation based on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.67 GPH).

With a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the GM9000iED delivers a clean sine wave—essential for safeguarding your delicate electronics when plugged into its AC outlets.

Outlets

The control panel provides the upcoming 6 AC outlets:

Two Duplexes 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI
120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle
120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle

Additionally, it offers 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) providing convenient charging capabilities for mobile phones, tablets, and other electronic devices.

Equipped with a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the GM9000iED is engineered to be transfer switch ready, enabling simple hookup to your breaker box to provide backup power for your home during blackouts.

Portability

With its enclosed inverter generator design (L30.9 x W22.6 x H29.3 in), the Genmax GM9000iED offers superior aesthetics and operates with minimized noise levels, distinguishing itself from standard, open frame generators. The featured design follows the latest trends and is ideal for easy and recreational use.

Even though this device may be technically portable (as in movable), manipulation and transportation without special equipment can be a challenge, as it weighs 243.6 pounds. Despite the restricted maneuverability, its set of 2 wheels (⌀7") and its folding handle provides a solution, allowing for convenient shifting once the generator is positioned on the ground.

Features

The GM9000iED's control panel

For easy status and activity monitoring of the GM9000iED, its control panel integrates a digital data center, offering insights into the voltage, lifetime run hours, power output and frequency.

In addition to this info, the device's light indicators will illuminate to indicate if the oil level is too low, the generator is ready and the generator is overloaded.

Thanks to its built-in fuel gauge, the inverter generator allows you to quickly, conveniently, and easily check the gas level at a glance.

Security-wise, this product benefits from an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.

It also benefits from Genmax's CO DETECT technology, which is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.

Beyond the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to assist with setup, the Genmax GM9000iED ships with supplementary accessories: key fob, propane hose, tool kit and funnel.

The Genmax GM9000iED versus other generators

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Genmax GM9000iED compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 7500 and 8500 W).

  • With a weight of 243.6 lbs, the Genmax GM9000iED is notably on the heavier side among dual fuel generators in the 7500-8500 rated wattage range. In terms of weight, one of the champions in their power range is the Cummins Onan P9500df, standing at just 194 lbs.
  • Since this inverter generator is rated for a lowest possible noise of 62 dBA, it can be considered as one of the more quiet of the products generating similar power. If you'd like a less noisy alternative, the DuroMax XP9500iH is a strong contender. It boasts a noise rating of 61 dBA, placing it among the quietest generators in its power category.
  • Regarding its autonomy, the GM9000iED can run for up to 14.5 hours at a 25% load, aligning it with the lower performers in its type and power range. Furthermore, considering the run times, one of the generators which have a roughly same power output, with the highest autonomy, is the DuroMax XP10000DX, as it provides up to 22 hours.
  • Though run time is a significant parameter, it's closely tied to the generator's fuel tank size. To get a comprehensive understanding, fuel efficiency must also be taken into account. This inverter generator doesn't excel in fuel efficiency when compared to others of its kind: it consumes approximately 0.48 GPH at a 25% load. If you wish to get a unit of similar power, but with one of the best fuel efficiency, you could consider the DuroMax XP9500iH, which has an impressively low fuel consumption of 0.34 GPH.
According to our stats, the following comparison is pretty popular: Genmax GM9000iED vs DuroMax XP9000iH.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 7500-8500W generators, the Genmax GM9000iED is on the expensive side of the price range.

While certainly not the cheapest of its kind, purchasing it would most likely also mean enjoying the reliability of a high-end product.

Trying to understand whether I am going to have an issue running home backup when I don't know whether I need bonded or floating ground. I have read that either will work as long as the house plug (15-50) is not GFCI protected. Can you confirm the 14-50 plug is not GFCI protected? Any other relevant info would be helpful. (Asked July 12, 2022)

Only the 5-20R receptacles are GFCI protected.

what is the difference between the gm9000ied and the gm9000iedc (Asked May 16, 2023)

The GM9000iEDC is CARB-compliant.
