Description
Zoom on the Genmax GM9000iED
To sum up, the Genmax GM9000iED is a powerful portable inverter generator tailored for:
- Food truck owners who do not wish to see their business interrupted under any circumstances
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.
Power & Run Time
The Genmax GM9000iED, equipped with dual-fuel technology and delivering 120/240V, ensures both power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 7,600W and a starting wattage of 9,000W. On propane, it provides 7,200 running watts and 8,550 starting watts. In addition, as it is parallel capable (GM9000PK (opens in a new tab) not included), this power can be increased when linked to another similar or compatible unit.
Enjoying a noise rating of 62 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a normal conversation), this inverter generator can be started thanks to a classic hand-operated recoil starting mechanism, but also to a straightforward and intuitive electric starter (battery included). Additionally, the GM9000iED features remote starting, offering users increased convenience (key fob included).
Regarding its running time, the GM9000iED, with a 6.9 gallons fuel tank, can operate for up to 14.5 hours with a full gasoline tank (with fuel consumption estimated at around 0.48 gallons per hour). It also offers up to 7 hours (estimation based on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.67 GPH) of operation when using propane.
The GM9000iED generates a clean sine wave: providing <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), delicate electronics can be plugged in its AC outlets safely.
Outlets
The control panel features the following 6 AC outlets:
Furthermore, it showcases 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) designed for hassle-free charging of various electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets, ensuring uninterrupted usage.
With its twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the GM9000iED is configured to be transfer switch ready, allowing straightforward connection to your breaker box to supply backup power to your home during outages.
Portability
The Genmax GM9000iED is distinguished by its enclosed inverter generator design (L30.9 x W22.6 x H29.3 in), providing improved aesthetics and quieter performance compared to traditional, open frame units. This type of design is the most modern and convenient way to recreationally generate power.
Despite its weight of 243.6 lbs, the generator is still considered 'portable,' meaning it is movable, although its heftiness may restrict portability in certain environments or require additional considerations for transportation and setup. Despite the restricted maneuverability, its set of 2 wheels (⌀7") and its folding handle provides a solution, allowing for convenient shifting once the generator is positioned on the ground.
Features
With a digital data center integrated into its control panel, the GM9000iED provides real-time insights into the voltage, lifetime run hours, power output and frequency, enabling easy monitoring of its status and activity.
In addition to this info, the generator's light indicators provide visual feedback when the generator is ready, the generator is on overload and its oil levels are insufficient.
The inverter generator allows for a quick, easy and convenient assessment of its gas level, as it is equipped with a built-in fuel gauge.
Regarding security, the generator comes with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), providing peace of mind during operation.
It also benefits from Genmax's CO DETECT technology, which is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the Genmax GM9000iED is bundled with additional accessories: key fob, tool kit, funnel and propane hose.

The Genmax GM9000iED versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Genmax GM9000iED compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 7500 and 8500 W).
- With a weight of 243.6 lbs, the Genmax GM9000iED is notably on the heavier side among dual fuel generators in the 7500-8500 rated wattage range. Weight-conscious users may find the Pulsar PGL9000BCO appealing, as it is one of the top contenders in this power range, weighing just 149 pounds.
- Delivering a rated noise output as low as 62 dBA, this inverter generator is has a quieter operation that most units of similar type and power. If noise is a concern for you, you could consider the DuroMax XP9500iH, which is one of the least noisy generators in its power range, rated at 61 dBA.
- In terms of its autonomy, the GM9000iED can operate for up to 14.5 hours at a 25% load, placing it within the lower bracket among generators of similar type and power range. If prolonged run time is essential to your needs, you could consider the DuroMax XP10000EH, which offers one of the highest autonomy among devices with similar power output, lasting up to 22 hours.
- Even though run times are undoubtedly important, they are dependent on the fuel capacity to a large extent. For a more wholesome picture, we must take into consideration the fuel consumption of the generator. Among generators of similar output, this inverter generator ranks somewhat poorly in fuel efficiency, with an estimated consumption of 0.48 GPH at a 25% load. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the DuroMax XP9500iH. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.34 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 7500-8500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Genmax GM9000iED is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

Trying to understand whether I am going to have an issue running home backup when I don't know whether I need bonded or floating ground. I have read that either will work as long as the house plug (15-50) is not GFCI protected. Can you confirm the 14-50 plug is not GFCI protected? Any other relevant info would be helpful. (Asked July 12, 2022)
Only the 5-20R receptacles are GFCI protected.
what is the difference between the gm9000ied and the gm9000iedc (Asked May 16, 2023)
The GM9000iEDC is CARB-compliant.
