Description
Zoom on the Genmax GM9000iEDC
In summary, the Genmax GM9000iEDC is a powerful portable inverter generator especially useful for:
- Food van owners who know that just a short power outage could lose them hundreds of dollars
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.
Power & Run Time
Delivering 120/240V, the Genmax GM9000iEDC is enhanced by dual-fuel technology, providing power and versatility. Running on gasoline, it boasts a running wattage of 7,600W and a starting wattage of 9,000W. Alternatively, when propane-powered, it delivers 7,200 running watts and 8,550 starting watts. In addition, the parallel capability (GM9000PK (opens in a new tab) not included) empowers increasing of power output when linked to another similar or compatible unit, ensuring expanded energy capacity and reliability for various applications.
The inverter generator is rated for a noise of 62 dBA (just slightly more noisy than background music). Its starting mechanisms include a simple traditional pull-start mechanism and a hassle-free and practical electric starter (battery included). Moreover, to offer you even more convenience, the GM9000iEDC can also be remotely started (key fob included).
As for its running time, the GM9000iEDC, along with its 6.9 gallons fuel capacity, can run for up to 14.5 hours with a full tank filled with gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.48 GPH). If propane is used, it can operate for up to 7 hours (estimation based on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.67 GPH).
Thanks to its low <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the GM9000iEDC produces a clean sine wave output, making it safe for your sensitive electronics when utilizing the AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel features 6 AC outlets as follows:
It also sports 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) with which you may charge electronics, for example mobile phones or tablets, conveniently.
Since it boasts a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the GM9000iEDC is engineered to be transfer switch ready, ensuring easy integration with your breaker box to provide backup power to your home during outages.
Portability
With an inverter generator design, the Genmax GM9000iEDC features a closed construction (L30.9 x W22.6 x H29.3 in), enhancing aesthetics and ensuring reduced noise levels, offering a distinct advantage over standard, open frame generators. This modern design aims to provide an ideal power solution to recreational users.
While the generator is considered to be technically 'portable' (in the sense that you can move it), manually lifting and transporting it may be challenging, due to its high weight of 243.6 lbs. Despite the restricted maneuverability, its set of 2 wheels (⌀7") and its folding handle provides a solution, allowing for convenient shifting once the generator is positioned on the ground.
Features
The control panel of the GM9000iEDC includes a digital data center, which assists you in monitoring its status and activity, as it provides information on the power output, frequency, voltage and lifetime run hours.
In addition to this info, the device’s light indicators will display if the oil level is too low, the generator is overloaded and the generator is ready.
Thanks to its built-in fuel gauge, the inverter generator allows you to quickly, conveniently, and easily check the gas level at a glance.
As far as security is concerned, the generator can be used with a peace of mind, as it features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker).
It also benefits from Genmax's CO DETECT technology, which is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the Genmax GM9000iEDC also is packed along with the following accessories: key fob, propane hose, funnel and tool kit.

The Genmax GM9000iEDC versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Genmax GM9000iEDC compare to generators of similar power (between 7500 and 8500 W).
- At 243.6 lbs, the Genmax GM9000iEDC stands out as one of the heavier generators rated from 7500 to 8500 watts. If weight is your top priority, one of the champions in this power category is the Genmax GM10500XiT, weighing just 123.5 pounds.
- Since this inverter generator is rated for a lowest possible noise of 62 dBA, it can be considered as one of the more quiet of the products generating similar power. If noise level is one your key decisive factors, you may find the DuroMax XP9500iH appealing. It's rated at 61 dBA, making it one of the quietest generators in its power range.
- In terms of autonomy, the GM9000iEDC offers up to 14.5 hours at a 25% load, placing it at the lower range within its power range. If you wish to prioritize autonomy, the DuroMax XP10000EH shines as one of the top contenders, offering one of the highest run times among generators with similar power output, totaling up to 22 hours.
- Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. This inverter generator doesn't excel in fuel efficiency when compared to others of its kind: it consumes approximately 0.48 GPH at a 25% load. If you wish to acquire one of the most gasoline efficient products of this power range, the DuroMax XP9500iH, with a fuel consumption of 0.34 GPH could be in your good books.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 7500-8500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Genmax GM9000iEDC is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

Trying to understand whether I am going to have an issue running home backup when I don't know whether I need bonded or floating ground. I have read that either will work as long as the house plug (15-50) is not GFCI protected. Can you confirm the 14-50 plug is not GFCI protected? Any other relevant info would be helpful. (Asked July 12, 2022)
Only the 5-20R receptacles are GFCI protected.
