Description
Zoom on the Genmax GM9000iED
To sum up, the Genmax GM9000iED is a powerful portable inverter generator tailored for:
- Food van owners who know that just a short power outage could lose them hundreds of dollars
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
- Professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure
In the sections ahead, the power characteristics, availability of various outlets, the portability, and any additional features of the device shall be discussed.
Power & Run Time
With its dual-fuel technology, the Genmax GM9000iED delivers 120/240V, and offers power and flexibility. Running on gasoline, it boasts a running wattage of 7,600W and a peak wattage of 9,000W. When powered by propane, it delivers 7,200 running watts and 8,550 peak watts. Moreover, the parallel capability (GM9000PK (opens in a new tab) not included) enables power output to increase when paired with another similar or compatible unit, providing increased energy capacity and versatility for a wide range of needs.
At a noise rating of 62 dBA (just slightly more noisy than an office), this inverter generator provides the choice between a manual recoil starter system or a convenient and efficient electric starter (battery included) for starting. Additionally, the GM9000iED may be remotely started, enhancing user convenience (key fob included).
The running time of the GM9000iED, with its 6.9 gallons fuel capacity, can reach up to 14.5 hours on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.48 GPH). With propane, it can reach up to 7 hours (estimation based on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.67 GPH).
The GM9000iED generates a clean sine wave with <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), ensuring minimal electrical noise and fluctuations. This feature makes it ideal for powering sensitive electronics, providing stable and reliable AC power through the outlets.
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 6 AC outlets:
Furthermore, it showcases 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) ensuring convenient charging of devices like mobile phones and tablets, for connectivity on the go.
Equipped with a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the GM9000iED is engineered to be transfer switch ready, enabling simple hookup to your breaker box to provide backup power for your home during blackouts.
Portability
The Genmax GM9000iED is an inverter generator and features an encased design with the following dimensions: L30.9 x W22.6 x H29.3 in. This design enhances aesthetics and helps minimize noise levels, distinguishing it from conventional, open frame products. This type of design is the most modern and convenient way to recreationally generate power.
Although this generator is technically considered 'portable' (in the sense that it can be moved), its 243.6 lbs make it incredibly difficult to manually lift and transport. However, the constrained maneuverability is addressed with the assistance of its set of 2 wheels (⌀7") and its folding handle, allowing for easy shifting once the generator is placed on the ground.
Features
The control panel of the GM9000iED includes a digital data center, which assists you in monitoring its status and activity, as it provides information on the frequency, power output, voltage and lifetime run hours.
In addition to this info, the generator's light indicators provide visual feedback when its oil levels are insufficient, the generator is on overload and the generator is ready.
Benefiting from its built-in fuel gauge, the inverter generator allows for easy and immediate gas level inspections.
Considering security aspects, the generator boasts an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, offering peace of mind throughout operation.
It also benefits from Genmax's CO DETECT technology, which is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Apart from the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to facilitate setup, the Genmax GM9000iED features extra accessories: funnel, propane hose, key fob and tool kit.

The Genmax GM9000iED versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Genmax GM9000iED compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 7500 and 8500 W).
- Weighing 243.6 lbs, the Genmax GM9000iED is one of the heavier dual fuel generators within the 7500-8500 rated wattage bracket. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the Pulsar PGL9000BCO, with a dry weight of just 149 pounds.
- With a lowest possible noise of 62 dBA, this inverter generator places itself amongst the more quiet of the products delivering similar power. If noise emissions are important to you, one of the least noisy generators of this power range is the DuroMax XP9500iH with only 61 dBA.
- Concerning its runtime, the GM9000iED provides up to 14.5 hours at a 25% load, indicating that it falls on the lower side compared to other generators of its type and power range. If you wish to prioritize autonomy, the DuroMax XP10000HX shines as one of the top contenders, offering one of the highest run times among generators with similar power output, totaling up to 22 hours.
- Run time is crucial, but it heavily relies on the fuel tank's capacity. Thus, considering fuel efficiency alongside is essential. Among generators of similar output, this inverter generator ranks somewhat poorly in fuel efficiency, with an estimated consumption of 0.48 GPH at a 25% load. If you're placing a high priority on fuel consumption, the DuroMax XP9500iH, with a low fuel consumption rate of 0.34 GPH, could be an option to consider.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 7500-8500W generators, the Genmax GM9000iED is on the expensive side of the price range.
While certainly not the cheapest of its kind, purchasing it would most likely also mean enjoying the reliability of a high-end product.

Trying to understand whether I am going to have an issue running home backup when I don't know whether I need bonded or floating ground. I have read that either will work as long as the house plug (15-50) is not GFCI protected. Can you confirm the 14-50 plug is not GFCI protected? Any other relevant info would be helpful. (Asked July 12, 2022)
Only the 5-20R receptacles are GFCI protected.
what is the difference between the gm9000ied and the gm9000iedc (Asked May 16, 2023)
The GM9000iEDC is CARB-compliant.
