Zoom on the Genmax GM9000iE
In a nutshell, the Genmax GM9000iE is a powerful portable inverter generator mostly geared towards:
- Food truck owners who want to ensure that their business is fully self-contained and does not rely on potentially unreliable external power
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
- Tailgating and campground aficionados with the desire of enjoying power anywhere they go
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, the extra features it benefits from, and any relevant emission compliance details.
Power & Run Time
The Genmax GM9000iE houses a 458 cc Dinking OHV 4-stroke engine, which provides 120/240V, consumes gasoline and delivers a running wattage of 7,600W along with a peak wattage of 9,000W. Additionally, as the generator is parallel capable (GM9000PK (opens in a new tab) not included), it can be linked to a second unit for more power.
At a noise rating of 62 dBA (just slightly more noisy than an office), this inverter generator can be started via a conventional pull-start mechanism, or a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included). Moreover, to offer you even more convenience, the GM9000iE can also be remotely started (key fob included).
The fuel capacity of 6.9 gallons allows the GM9000iE to operate for up to 14.5 hours with a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.48 GPH).
Delicate electronics can be plugged in an AC outlets safely, as the GM9000iE generates a clean sine wave, reaching a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).
Outlets
The control panel features the following 6 AC outlets:
It also sports 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) with which charging of electronics like mobile phones and tablets is made convenient.
Since the GM9000iE bears a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: it is easily connectible to a breaker box and can power your home in case of a power outage.
Portability
Thanks to its closed inverter generator design (L30.9 x W22.6 x H29.3 in), the Genmax GM9000iE, is more esthetical than a typical, open frame generator. The featured design follows the latest trends and is ideal for easy and recreational use.
Even though this device may be technically portable (as in movable), manipulation and transportation without special equipment can be a challenge, as it weighs 233.7 pounds. Still, once it is on the ground, its set of 2 wheels (⌀7") and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.
Features
Monitoring of the GM9000iE's status and activity is made possible by a digital data center, which provides information on the power output, frequency, voltage and lifetime run hours and is one of the features of its control panel.
In addition to this info, when the generator is on overload, the generator is ready and the oil level is too low, you will be informed by the featured light indicators.
A built-in fuel gauge allows for a quick, easy and convenient check of the fuel level of the inverter generator.
From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, giving you a peace of mind during use.
It also benefits from Genmax's CO DETECT technology, which is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the Genmax GM9000iE also comes with several accessories, including: tool kit, key fob and funnel.
Emissions
The Genmax GM9000iE is EPA approved, but NOT CARB-compliant. Thus, it cannot be purchased or sold in California.
However, it features a spark arrestor and therefore, can be used in forested areas.
In addition, the unit meets the ANSI/PGMA G300-2018 safety and performance requirements.

The Genmax GM9000iE versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Genmax GM9000iE compare to generators of similar power (between 7500 and 8500 W).
- Considering its dry weight of 233.7 pounds, the Genmax GM9000iE is one of the heavier generators producing between 7500 and 8500 running watts. In terms of weight, one of the champions in their power range is the Dewalt DXGNR8000, standing at just 183 lbs.
- With a lowest noise rating of 62 dBA, the inverter generator is one of the most quiet of the generators of similar power.
- As for its autonomy, the GM9000iE, with an autonomy of up to 14.5 hours at a 25% load, is placed on the low end among the generators of its kind. Concerning the run times, one of the several devices with a comparable output, offering the highest autonomy, is the DuroMax XP10000HX, which is able to run for up to 22 hours.
- Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. This inverter generator is rather wasteful, compared to other devices within the aforementioned output range, when it comes to gasoline consumption, as it reaches roughly 0.48 GPH at a 25% load. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the DuroMax XP9000iH. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.35 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.
Price comparison
As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 7500-8500W generators, the Genmax GM9000iE is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
The bottom line
- In the expected price range
- CO DETECT technology
- Several accessories included
- GFCI Outlets

User Reviews
I love everything about this generator but….it keeps shutting down when the load on the indicator gets up to 4k watts. It’s advertised to be 9000 peak 7600 running, but that’s not happening for me….Would appreciate any help here…
