Description
Zoom on the Genmax GM6000iED
In short, the Genmax GM6000iED is a compact portable inverter generator adequately designed for:
- RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
- People occasionally participating in outdoor fairs, festivals or events
- Food truck owners who do not wish to see their business interrupted under any circumstances
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
- Professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure
The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.
Power & Run Time
Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the Genmax GM6000iED delivers 120/240V and offers power and versatility. When gasoline-powered, it benefits from a running wattage of 5,250W and a peak wattage of 6,000W. When propane-powered, it has 4,750 rated watts and 5,500 peak watts.
With a noise rating of 63 dBA (just slightly more noisy than an office), the inverter generator features a simple traditional pull-start mechanism, but also a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). Additionally, the GM6000iED may be remotely started, enhancing user convenience (key fob included).
With a fuel capacity of 3.8 gallons, the GM6000iED can operate for around 8.5 hours at 50% load using gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.45 GPH), or for around 7.9 hours (estimation based on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.59 GPH) using propane.
The GM6000iED generates a clean sine wave with <5% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), ensuring minimal electrical noise and fluctuations. This feature makes it ideal for powering sensitive electronics, providing stable and reliable AC power through the outlets.
Outlets
The control panel includes the following 3 AC outlets:
It also sports 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) ideal for charging various electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets.
Since the GM6000iED bears a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, it is transfer switch ready: it is easily connectible to a breaker box and can power your home in case of a power outage.
Portability
As an inverter generator, the Genmax GM6000iED showcases a closed design (L24 x W18.5 x H21.1 in), enhancing aesthetics and ensuring quieter operation compared to conventional, open frame models. The featured design follows the latest trends and is ideal for easy and recreational use.
Although this generator is technically considered 'portable' (in the sense that it can be moved), its 117.9 lbs make it incredibly difficult to manually lift and transport. Nonetheless, the limited maneuverability is compensated for by utilizing its set of 2 wheels (⌀5.5") and its telescopic handle, which facilitates shifting once the generator is set on the ground.
Features
For easy status and activity monitoring of the GM6000iED, its control panel integrates a digital data center, offering insights into the frequency, voltage, fuel level, power output and lifetime run hours.
In addition to this info, the device’s light indicators will display if the generator is ready, its oil levels are insufficient and the generator is on overload.
From a security standpoint, the product offers an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, allowing you to use it with a peace of mind.
It also benefits from Genmax's CO DETECT technology, which is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Apart from the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to facilitate setup, the Genmax GM6000iED features extra accessories: funnel, propane hose, key fob and tool kit.

The Genmax GM6000iED versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Genmax GM6000iED compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 4500 and 5500 W).
- Regarding weight, the Genmax GM6000iED comes in at only 117.9 pounds, positioning itself as one of the lighter options among inverter generators spanning from 4500 to 5500 in rated wattage. If weight is an important consideration for you, the Pulsar PGX60BiSRCO stands out as one of the top contenders in this power category, with a dry weight of 93.5 pounds.
- With noise emissions reaching as low as 63 dBA, this inverter generator has a noise level typical for devices of its type and power category. If noise emissions are important to you, one of the least noisy generators of this power range is the Honda EU7000iS with only 52 dBA.
- In terms of run time, the GM6000iED surpasses similarly powerful inverters, boasting one of the higher run times at around 8.5 hours. If prolonged run time is essential to your needs, you could consider the Briggs & Stratton Q6500 QuietPower, which offers one of the highest autonomy among devices with similar power output, lasting around 10 hours.
- Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. With an estimated fuel consumption of 0.45 GPH at a 50% load, this inverter generator aligns with the average gasoline usage range of comparable products. If gasoline efficiency is at the top of your list, you may want to have a look at the DuroMax XP7000iHT, which has great fuel efficiency, with a gas consumption of only 0.38 gallons per hour.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 4500-5500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Genmax GM6000iED is on the expensive side of the price range.
While certainly not the cheapest of its kind, purchasing it would most likely also mean enjoying the reliability of a high-end product.

User Reviews
I’ve done quite a few generator reviews and I am a certified professional mechanic. This generator had several quality control issues right out of the box. There were also several design flaws including very bad engine vibrations at idle, poor wire routings, a load pannel that wasn’t accurate, side pannels that had stripped out hardware. Parts and customer service is non existent. Literally. I honestly would stay far away from this line of generators.
