Zoom on the Genmax GM6000iED
In a few words, the Genmax GM6000iED is a compact portable inverter generator perfectly suited for:
- RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
- People occasionally participating in sporting competitions, open-air performances and outdoor festivals
- Food truck owners who do not wish to see their business interrupted under any circumstances
- Homeowners in need of an emergency backup power for their essentials
- Professionals who want to be able to deliver results, even during a power failure
Over the following sections, you'll uncover its power characteristics, the selection of outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it includes.
Power & Run Time
The dual-fuel technology of the Genmax GM6000iED allows for an output of 120/240V and provides superb power and versatility. If gasoline-powered, the device provides a running wattage of 5,250W and a starting wattage of 6,000W. If propane-powered, it gives 4,750 rated watts and 5,500 starting watts.
Enjoying a noise rating of 63 dBA (just slightly more noisy than background music), this inverter generator offers the versatility of starting with either a standard recoil pull-rope starting mechanism or a convenient and efficient electric starter (battery included). Moreover, the GM6000iED boasts remote starting functionality, adding another layer of convenience (key fob included).
In terms of running time, the GM6000iED, equipped with a 3.8 gallons fuel tank, is capable of running continuously for around 8.5 hours at 50% load on a full gasoline tank (with fuel consumption estimated at around 0.45 gallons per hour). When utilizing propane, it provides around 7.9 hours (estimation based on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.59 GPH) of operation.
Sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets, as the GM6000iED produces a clean sine wave, with a <5% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).
Outlets
The control panel features 3 AC outlets as follows:
Additionally, it features 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) designed for hassle-free charging of various electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets, ensuring uninterrupted usage.
The GM6000iED's twist-lock L14-30R receptacle makes it transfer switch ready, enabling hassle-free connection to your breaker box for powering your home during outages.
Portability
With its enclosed inverter generator design (L24 x W18.5 x H21.1 in), the Genmax GM6000iED offers superior aesthetics and operates with minimized noise levels, distinguishing itself from standard, open frame generators. The generator has a contemporary design, convenient for recreationally generating power.
Despite its weight of 117.9 lbs, the generator is considered 'portable,' signifying its capability to be moved, albeit its heaviness may hinder easy transport. Nevertheless, the restricted maneuverability is counteracted by its set of 2 wheels (⌀5.5") and its telescopic handle, enabling easy shifting once the generator is set in place.
Features
For easy status and activity monitoring of the GM6000iED, its control panel integrates a digital data center, offering insights into the voltage, fuel level, power output, frequency and lifetime run hours.
In addition to this info, the device’s light indicators will display if its oil levels are insufficient, the generator is ready and the generator is overloaded.
As far as security is concerned, the generator comes with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, providing peace of mind during use.
It also benefits from Genmax's CO DETECT technology, which is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Apart from the typical documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), which lets you start it right away, the Genmax GM6000iED also is packed along with the following accessories: key fob, funnel, propane hose and tool kit.

The Genmax GM6000iED versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Genmax GM6000iED compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 4500 and 5500 W).
- With a dry weight of 117.9 pounds, the Genmax GM6000iED finds itself in the expected weight range for inverter generators able to produce between 4500 and 5500 rated watts. If weight matters to you, one of the champions in this power range is the Pulsar PGX60BiSRCO with only 93.5 pounds.
- Since the inverter generator's noise is rated at 63 dBA, it has the roughly average expected noise for a device of similar type and power. If noise emissions are one of your priorities, you may be interested in the Honda EU7000iS, one of the least noisy generators similarly powerful as this one, rated for 52 dBA.
- Thanks to an impressive running time of around 8.5 hours at 50% load, the GM6000iED benefits from a higher run time than many inverter generators of a similar output. Furthermore, considering the run times, one of the generators which have a roughly same power output, with the highest autonomy, is the Briggs & Stratton Q6500 QuietPower, as it provides around 10 hours.
- Run time is crucial, but it heavily relies on the fuel tank's capacity. Thus, considering fuel efficiency alongside is essential. This inverter generator has an estimated fuel consumption of roughly 0.45 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 50% load, rendering it somewhat average compared to devices of a similar output. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.38 GPH, the DuroMax XP7000iHT is a device you could look out for.

User Reviews
I’ve done quite a few generator reviews and I am a certified professional mechanic. This generator had several quality control issues right out of the box. There were also several design flaws including very bad engine vibrations at idle, poor wire routings, a load pannel that wasn’t accurate, side pannels that had stripped out hardware. Parts and customer service is non existent. Literally. I honestly would stay far away from this line of generators.
