Zoom on the Genmax GM3500iAED
In a nutshell, the Genmax GM3500iAED is a compact and lightweight portable inverter generator mostly geared towards:
- RV travellers wishing to enhance their freedom and nomad lifestyle
- Occasional participants of outdoor events, competitions, concerts and festivals
- DIYers who wish to improve their efficiency with tools
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
- Camping and tailgating buffs looking to enhance their experience
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.
Power & Run Time
The dual-fuel technology of the Genmax GM3500iAED allows for an output of 120V and provides superb power and versatility. If gasoline-powered, the device provides a running wattage of 3,200W and a starting wattage of 3,500W. If propane-powered, it gives 2,800 rated watts and 3,100 starting watts. In addition, the device is parallel capable (parallel kit (opens in a new tab) not included) and thus, can be linked to a similar or compatible unit for added power.
With a noise rating of 62 dBA (just slightly more noisy than background music), the inverter generator features a simple traditional pull-start mechanism, but also a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included). To add further convenience, the GM3500iAED can be remotely started (key fob included).
Regarding its running time, the GM3500iAED, with a 1.7 gallon fuel capacity can operate for up to 8 hours with a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.21 GPH). When using propane, it can run for up to 16 hours (estimation based on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.29 GPH).
The GM3500iAED generates a clean sine wave: providing <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), delicate electronics can be plugged in its AC outlets safely.
Outlets
The control panel features the following 3 AC outlets:
Additionally, it features 2 DC outlets: there's two 5V USB ports (USB-A) with which you may charge electronics, for example mobile phones or tablets, conveniently.
While this Genmax generator is not RV Ready, its L5-30R receptacle can be used for a simple RV connection with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor (included).
Portability
Since the Genmax GM3500iAED is an inverter generator, its closed design (L20.9 x W12.2 x H19.7 in) has an esthetical advantage over conventional, open frame devices. This modern design aims to provide an ideal power solution to recreational users.
The GM3500iAED's dry weight of 56.2 lbs lets you use its power anywhere needed. Furthermore, once placed on the floor, effortless displacement is possible thanks to its set of 2 wheels (⌀4") and its telecospic handle.
Features
A digital data center, one of the features of the GM3500iAED's control panel, gives you information on the power output, lifetime run hours, voltage, fuel level and frequency, and thus, is helpful for the monitoring of its activity and status.
In addition to this info, the light indicators show you if the generator is ready, the generator is overloaded and its oil levels are insufficient.
From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), giving you a peace of mind during use.
It also benefits from Genmax's CO DETECT technology, which is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
While the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), helpful for starting the device promptly, come with the Genmax GM3500iAED, the following accessories are also included: funnel, key fob, tool kit, propane hose and RV adapter.
Emissions
The Genmax GM3500iAED is EPA approved, but NOT CARB-compliant. Thus, it cannot be purchased or sold in California.
However, it features a spark arrestor and therefore, can be used in forested areas.
In addition, the unit meets the ANSI/PGMA G300-2018 safety and performance requirements.

The Genmax GM3500iAED versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Genmax GM3500iAED compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 2500 and 3500 W).
- Regarding its weight, the Genmax GM3500iAED only weighs in at 56.2 pounds, which means it's one of the lighter inverter generators in the 2500-3500 rated wattage range. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Pulsar PGD40iSCO, with a dry weight of only 46 lbs.
- The inverter generator can be considered average in its noise for its type and power category, as it is rated at 62 dBA. If noise emissions are important to you, one of the least noisy generators of this power range is the Honda EU3000iS with only 50 dBA.
- As for its autonomy, the GM3500iAED, with an autonomy of up to 8 hours at a 25% load, is placed on the low end among the generators of its kind. If autonomy is your priority, one of the devices of a similar power output with the highest run time is the Champion 200954, reaching up to 22 hours.
- Autonomy holds its importance, however, it is largely dependent on the generator’s fuel capacity and so, it is nonsensible to discuss it without mentioning fuel efficiency as well. This inverter generator is somewhat less fuel efficient than devices of comparable output: its estimated fuel consumption reaches 0.21 GPH at a 25% load. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.13 GPH, the Energizer eZV3500P is a device you could look out for.
Price comparison
As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 2500-3500W dual fuel inverter generators, the Genmax GM3500iAED is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.

Unlike many websites, we did our best to research each of the specs above. That being said, we are not immune to making the occasional mistake or omission. Should you notice any missing or incorrect values, don't hesitate to suggest improvements so we can address the issue.
* Propane runtime is our own estimation, based on a 20 lbs tank and NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs of propane = 1 gal of gasoline.

User Reviews
I purchased this inverter generator and it wouldn’t run straight out the box. Obviously, I didn’t mean I took it out the box and tried to run it. The proper amount of oil and fuel was put in it and the battery cable was connected. It would crank, but only run for a few seconds then the overload light would come on. Even with it cranking, it seemed to only run at a fraction of it’s ability. Then the CO2 light flashed, which the label states it needs maintenance. Don’t know what happened to QC at this company, but this unit DEFINITELY wasn’t checked, prior to shipping.
Several quality control issues right out of the box and also a very dangerous flaw with this machine. I’ve done many reviews and helped re-engineer some. This had poor wire routings, engine shakes bad at idle, changing oil you have to tip to the side to drain. Doing so leaks gas out of the tank vent and it fills the air filter box with gas which then runs out back by a hot muffler…no kidding. GenMax offered a warning sticker to fix this dangerous flaw. These could be such good machines if they used quality parts and had parts and service in the USA. I highly can’t recommend at all.
