Description
Zoom on the Genmax GM12500iET
In summary, the Genmax GM12500iET is a powerful portable inverter generator especially useful for:
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
In the upcoming sections, you'll discover its power characteristics, the array of outlets it presents, its overall portability, and the additional features it possesses.
Power & Run Time
The Genmax GM12500iET delivers 120/240V and features a tri-fuel technology, granting it the capability to utilize gasoline, propane, or natural gas. When utilizing gasoline, it achieves a running wattage of 10,500W and a peak wattage of 12,500W. Upon switching to propane, it benefits from 9,500 rated watts and 11,500 peak watts. Transitioning to natural gas operation provides 8,500W of rated wattage and 10,000W of starting wattage.
The inverter generator is rated for a noise of 62 dBA (just slightly more noisy than background music). Its starting mechanisms include a simple traditional pull-start mechanism and a straightforward and intuitive electric starter (battery included). In addition, the GM12500iET also supports remote starting, enhancing user convenience (key fob included).
The generator also supports 2-wire start, enabling integration with compatible automatic transfer switches (ATS), solar battery systems, or hybrid inverter setups via a low-voltage contact-closure control circuit.
As for its running time, the GM12500iET, along with its 6.9 gallons fuel capacity, can run for up to 10.4 hours with a full tank filled with gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.66 GPH). If propane is used, it can operate for up to 6 hours (estimation based on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.78 GPH).
The GM12500iET generates a clean sine wave with <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), ensuring minimal electrical noise and fluctuations. This feature makes it ideal for powering sensitive electronics, providing stable and reliable AC power through the outlets.
Outlets
The control panel provides the upcoming 6 AC outlets:
Furthermore, it showcases 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle enabling simple battery charging for added ease.
Despite not having the 'RV Ready' status, this Genmax generator provides the benefit of convenient RV compatibility through its L5-30R receptacle, enabling you to easily power your RV using an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor.
Portability
The Genmax GM12500iET's characteristic encased inverter generator design (L30.9 x W22.9 x H29.3 in) provides an aesthetic advantage and contributes to quieter operation compared to any ordinary, open frame product. The design follows the contemporary trends and is perfect for recreationally generating power.
Even though this device may be technically portable (as in movable), manipulation and transportation without special equipment can be a challenge, as it weighs 247 pounds. Still, once it is on the ground, its set of 2 wheels and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.
Features
The control panel of the GM12500iET includes a digital data center, which assists you in monitoring its status and activity, as it provides information on the frequency, lifetime run hours, voltage and power output.
In addition to this info, the light indicators show you if its oil levels are insufficient, the generator is ready and the generator is on overload.
The inverter generator allows for a quick, easy and convenient assessment of its gas level, as it is equipped with a built-in fuel gauge.
Security-wise, this product benefits from an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), which gives you a complete peace of mind when using it.
It also benefits from Genmax's CO DETECT technology, which is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the Genmax GM12500iET is bundled with additional accessories: tool kit, key fob, propane hose, funnel, battery charger and natural gas hose with NPT adapter.
Genmax App
Genmax’s app lets you pair your smartphone with your GM12500iET inverter generator. It allows you to always know exactly what is going on.
Using Bluetooth technology, the generator communicates with the app (available on iOS (opens in a new tab) and Android (opens in a new tab) devices) to conveniently monitor power consumption, fuel level, remaining runtime, and even remotely shut off your generator directly from your smartphone.
The information displayed within the app is identical to the information displayed on the LCD screen of the GM12500iET.

The Genmax GM12500iET versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Genmax GM12500iET compare to generators of similar power (between 10000 and 11000 W).
- With a dry weight of 247 pounds, the Genmax GM12500iET finds itself in the expected weight range for generators able to produce between 10000 and 11000 rated watts. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Genmax GM12000XiT, with a dry weight of only 194 lbs.
- With a lowest noise rating of 62 dBA, the inverter generator is one of the most quiet of the generators of similar power.
- In terms of autonomy, the GM12500iET offers up to 10.4 hours at a 25% load, placing it at the lower range within its power range. If extended autonomy is what matters most to you, the Westinghouse WGen10500TFc could be an excellent choice, offering one of the longest run times among units in its power category, reaching up to 19 hours.
- Run time is a key metric, but it's dependent on the generator's fuel tank capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary for a complete understanding. Compared to similar devices, this inverter generator is less fuel-efficient than most: it burns around 0.66 gallons of gasoline per hour at a 25% load. If you wish to get a unit of similar power, but with one of the best fuel efficiency, you could consider the DuroMax XP13000HXT, which has an impressively low fuel consumption of 0.49 GPH.
