Description
Zoom on the Genmax GM10500iETC
In short, the Genmax GM10500iETC is a powerful portable inverter generator adequately designed for:
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
- Camping and tailgating buffs looking to enhance their experience
The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.
Power & Run Time
The Genmax GM10500iETC delivers 120/240V and is equipped with a tri-fuel technology, enabling it to operate on gasoline, propane, or natural gas. When powered by gasoline, it achieves a running wattage of 8,500W and a peak wattage of 10,500W. Switching to propane provides 8,000 rated watts and 9,500 peak watts, while natural gas operation delivers 6,800W of rated wattage and 8,400W of starting wattage. Additionally, the parallel capability (GM9000PK parallel kit (opens in a new tab) not included) facilitates increasing of power output when linked to another similar or compatible unit, offering enhanced energy capacity and reliability for diverse requirements.
The inverter generator features a simple traditional pull-start mechanism and also a user-friendly and efficient electric starter (battery included). It is rated for a noise of 64 dBA (just slightly more noisy than an office). For added user convenience, the GM10500iETC is equipped with remote starting capabilities (key fob included).
Regarding its running time, the GM10500iETC, with a 6.9 gallons fuel capacity, can operate for around 8.1 hours at 50% load with a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.85 GPH). When using propane, it can run for around 4 hours (estimation based on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 1.18 GPH).
Sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets, as the GM10500iETC produces a clean sine wave, with a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).
Outlets
The control panel features 6 AC outlets as follows:
Furthermore, it has 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle making battery charging a breeze.
As it features a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the GM10500iETC is transfer switch ready: in case of a power outage, you will be easily able to connect it to a breaker box and power your household. The unit also features an ATS plug, which makes it compatible with automatic transfer switches.
Portability
The Genmax GM10500iETC is distinguished by its enclosed inverter generator design (L30.9 x W22.6 x H29.3 in), providing improved aesthetics and quieter performance compared to traditional, open frame units. This modern design aims to provide an ideal power solution to recreational users.
Though weighing 244.7 lbs, the generator remains classified as 'portable,' indicating its capability to be moved, though its weight could pose transport challenges. Despite the restricted maneuverability, its set of 2 wheels and its folding handle provides a solution, allowing for convenient shifting once the generator is positioned on the ground.
Features
Included in the control panel of the GM10500iETC, a digital data center assists in tracking its status and activity by providing details on the voltage, lifetime run hours, frequency and power output. To offer you even more control and easy operation during nighttime, the panel is LED-lit.
In addition to this info, light indicators on the device will signal if the oil level is too low, the generator is overloaded and the generator is ready.
Benefiting from its built-in fuel gauge, the inverter generator allows for easy and immediate gas level inspections.
From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, giving you a peace of mind during use.
It also benefits from Genmax's CO DETECT technology, which is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
Alongside the standard documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) for quick setup, the Genmax GM10500iETC is bundled with additional accessories: neutral bonding plug, tool kit, funnel, battery charger, propane hose, key fob, cover, natural gas hose with NPT adapter and RV adapter.

The Genmax GM10500iETC versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Genmax GM10500iETC compare to multi-fuel generators of similar power (between 8000 and 9000 W).
- A weight of 244.7 lbs makes the Genmax GM10500iETC one of the heavier multi-fuel devices in the 8000-9000 rated wattage range. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the Pulsar PGL9000BCO, with a dry weight of just 149 pounds.
- Delivering a rated noise output as low as 64 dBA, this inverter generator is has a quieter operation that most units of similar type and power. If you’d prefer a less noisy device, one of the most quiet devices, which share the same power range with this one, is the DuroMax XP11000iH, whose lowest noise levels reach just 61 dBA.
- As for its runtime, the GM10500iETC runs for around 8.1 hours at a 50% load, placing it towards the low end among comparable multi-fuel products. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the Champion 100416, with around 12.5 hours.
- Autonomy holds its importance, however, it is largely dependent on the generator’s fuel capacity and so, it is nonsensible to discuss it without mentioning fuel efficiency as well. Compared to similar devices, this inverter generator is less fuel-efficient than most: it burns around 0.85 gallons of gasoline per hour at a 50% load. If you are concerned with gasoline efficiency, having a fuel consumption of just 0.66 GPH, the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc is a device you could look out for.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 8000-9000W multi-fuel generators, the Genmax GM10500iETC is on the expensive side of the price range.
While certainly not the cheapest of its kind, purchasing it would most likely also mean enjoying the reliability of a high-end product.
