Zoom on the Genmax GM10500iETC
In summary, the Genmax GM10500iETC is a powerful portable inverter generator especially useful for:
- Homeowners who want to be sure of their ability to power their fridges, cooking tools, heating and lighting equipment during power failures
- Camping and tailgating hobbyists looking for a portable power source
In the following paragraphs, we shall explore the power characteristics, available outlets, portability, and any additional features of the device, along with its emission compliance information.
Power & Run Time
The Genmax GM10500iETC delivers 120/240V and benefits from a tri-fuel technology that allows it to run on gasoline, propane, or natural gas. When gasoline-powered, it enjoys a running wattage of 8,500W and a peak wattage of 10,500W. When propane-powered, it benefits from 8,000 rated watts and 9,500 peak watts. Its natural gas operation offers 6,800W of rated wattage and 8,400W of starting wattage. The impressive running wattage makes this unit one of the biggest inverter generators currently on the market. In addition, as it is parallel capable (parallel kit not included), this power can be increased when linked to another similar or compatible unit.
The inverter generator is rated for a noise of 64 dBA (just slightly more noisy than background music). Its starting mechanisms include a simple traditional pull-start mechanism and a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included). The GM10500iETC can also be remotely started, offering further convenience (key fob included).
With a fuel capacity of 6.9 gallons, the GM10500iETC can operate for around 8.1 hours at 50% load using gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.85 GPH), or for around 4 hours (estimation based on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 1.18 GPH) using propane.
The GM10500iETC produces a clean sine wave: thanks to a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), your sensitive electronics can be safely plugged in the AC outlets.
Outlets
The control panel features the upcoming 6 AC outlets:
In addition, it provides 1 DC outlet: there's a 12V 8A (cigarette lighter style) receptacle with which you may charge your batteries with ease.
Due to the featured twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, the GM10500iETC is transfer switch ready: you may connect it to a breaker box to power your household during a power outage. The unit also features an ATS plug, which makes it compatible with automatic transfer switches.
Portability
The Genmax GM10500iETC is an inverter generator and has an encased design of the following dimensions: L30.9 x W22.6 x H29.3 in. Thus, it is more aesthetical than conventional, open frame products. This type of design is the most modern and convenient way to recreationally generate power.
Since the generator weighs 244.7 lbs, it will be incredibly difficult to manually lift it and transport it, even though it is technically considered to 'be portable' (in the sense that it is movable). However, this lack of maneuverability is compensated by its set of 2 wheels and its folding handle, with which you can conveniently shift it, once it's on the ground.
Features
A digital data center, one of the features of the GM10500iETC's control panel, gives you information on the frequency, voltage, lifetime run hours and power output, and thus, is helpful for the monitoring of its activity and status. To offer you even more control and easy operation during nighttime, the panel is LED-lit.
In addition to this info, several light indicators serve to show you when the generator is overloaded, the oil level is too low and the generator is ready.
Thanks to a built-in fuel gauge, the inverter generator allows you to quickly, conveniently and easily check the gas level at a glance.
As for its security measures, the device features an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), letting you use it with a peace of mind.
It also benefits from Genmax's CO DETECT technology, which is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.
With the basic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab), letting you start the generator quickly, the Genmax GM10500iETC also comes with several accessories, including: funnel, neutral bonding plug, propane hose, RV adapter, cover, tool kit, key fob, natural gas hose with NPT adapter and battery charger.
Emissions
The Genmax GM10500iETC is EPA-approved and CARB-compliant. Thus, selling and purchasing this generator is allowed in each of the 50 states, including California.
Moreover, it features a spark arrestor, which makes it suitable for use in forested areas.
The unit also meets the ANSI/PGMA G300-2018 safety and performance requirements.

The Genmax GM10500iETC versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Genmax GM10500iETC compare to generators of similar power (between 8000 and 9000 W).
- As its weight is 244.7 pounds, the Genmax GM10500iETC falls in the expected weight range of the devices in the 8000-9000 rated wattage category. Regarding dry weight, one of the champions in the same power range is the Dewalt DXGNR8000, with a dry weight of only 183 lbs.
- At a lowest noise rating of 64 dBA, this inverter generator is one of the most quiet devices of similar power.
- As for its autonomy, the GM10500iETC, with an autonomy of around 8.1 hours at a 50% load, is placed on the low end among the generators of its kind. If you consider autonomy on a single full tank as one of the deciding factors, one of the generators in the same power range that offers the highest run time is the Champion 100416, with around 12.5 hours.
- Autonomy holds its importance, however, it is largely dependent on the generator’s fuel capacity and so, it is nonsensible to discuss it without mentioning fuel efficiency as well. Compared to its peers, this inverter generator is not exactly fuel efficient, compared to similarly powerful devices, with an estimated fuel consumption of 0.85 GPH at a 50% load. If not satisfied with the afore-mentioned fuel consumption, you may wish to check out the Pulsar PG10000B16. With a fuel consumption of as little as 0.55 GPH, it is one of the most efficient generators currently on the market.
Price comparison
As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other 8000-9000W generators, the Genmax GM10500iETC is on the average side of the price range.
Therefore, this generator nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
